Wow, that lead Singer did a fantastic job, I couldn’t tell the difference between his voice and the original, some people are just so gifted and blessed
Nearly forty years ago I was standing at the jukebox, decided to play the flip side of "Walk Away Renee", and I've been hooked on this beautiful song ever since. ❤
Must have been a Greatest Hits single as those were two separate singles originally. Looks like Steve Martin is the only original member in this video.
I wish I could hear more from this night. This was a tribute to the songwriter Michael Brown also known as Michael Lukosky! His Dad helped with the string arrangements for several songs back in the mid 60's. His Dad Harry, was a musician.
Alan Merrill Mr. Merrill, I became a Left Banke fan after listening to your cover of "pretty ballerina" and " walk away renee". I read you almost became a left banke member after a successful audition. Were you in for a guitarist or a singer?
Unfortunately at this time of writing all the original members are deceased however the music lives on Baroque Rock Lydian Mode scale Revolutionary for its time 1966.
It was a pity that Steve Martin Caro could not have been part of this reunion of The Left Banke seen and heard in the video uploaded here. Actually, it appears only one guy in this video (the one wearing the cowboy hat) is old enough to have been an original member. And which one is he? Is that the late Tom Finn Who is the vocalist who substituted for Caro here? His tenor voice is actually very close to Caro's. Although, of course, there is still nothing like having the "real deal," plus that Caro was so stunningly beautiful in body as well in voice, a perfect physical manifestation of The Left Banke's achingly, hauntingly beautiful "Baroque Pop" music. By the way, is there any film or videotape available of Steve Martin Caro with The Left Banke besides those few already uploaded to RU-vid, one from the lip-synced appearance in ABC-TV's (Dick Clark's) "Where the Action Is?"
Dont be too hard on a live performance, the acoustics would have been harsh, maybe the drummer could have had a screen to reduce the sound, thinking on the original version the drumming was much like this
Sounded good, nice try keeping this music true to the original, but it isn't really The Left Banke. It's a tribute band of young guys who weren't even born when the real Left Banke existed. They need a name change.
Progressive rock masterpiece, too bad the string section isn't fulled up and the bassist is reading it on the fly. There's an eighth ostinato missing. How difficult it is to find anyone who can sing it all the way through in key! Given that opportunity here, why aren't the other parts just dead on? Damn music business
