Your comment lacks nuance. 'Israeli' actions? Or do you mean the Israeli government's actions? For a start, 20 percent of voters in Israel are Israeli Muslims and there is no way they approve of 'Israeli actions'. And then there is a very active Peace Movement in Israel, as well as enormous opposition to the current extremist Israeli government.

That doesn’t help. The words colony, colonise and de-colonise have undergone radical shifts in meaning. Originally a colony was a place you sent settlers to; so, in the British Empire, Australia and New Zealand were colonies which were colonised by settlers but India was not; that was an imperial possession but not a colony. The concept of a colony was expanded in order to make western imperialism appear unique, and unrelated to the imperialism of non-westerners; the gunpowder empires, the African empires, the Qing Dynasty etc. Imperial possessions which did not experience setter colonisation were therefore re-branded as colonies. The post-WW2 process of bringing imperial possessions to self-government was called “decolonisation”. Yet, according to the previous understanding of colonisation, very few of these territories were decolonised. One territory which was decolonised was Algeria, because independence led to virtually all of its one million French settlers relocating back to France. Logically the settlement of large numbers of Algerians in France is a form of Algerian counter-colonialism. At least during this period, everyone understood that decolonisation meant independence, and that term sort-of worked. But the continued expansion of the term means that people now talk with a straight face about decolonising algebra and astronomy.
