Dr. Marni Sheppeard passed away during a hiking trip in New Zealand in early 2021. She was a category theorist with interests in theoretical physics, including the standard model and quantum gravity. Her thesis in 2007 introduced the notion of associahedra and operads being applied to scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory. By 2012, similar notions became popular through the coining of the term amplituhedron. This video briefly provides an overview of Marni’s life work by Quantum Gravity Research physicist David Chester and concludes by synthesizing how concepts in her thesis have been recapitulated in works from 2013 and 2017. The relationship of associahedra to QCD comes through the quark color charge sector, while the spin-1 kinematic sector of the gluons is deformed from the spin-0 kinematic associahedron of the biadjoint scalar theory. These later works are compatible with the claims laid out in Marni’s thesis.

Correction: The video incorrectly states that Marni passed away in Australia, but she actually passed in New Zealand. We apologize for the mistake.

Her questions and work were honorable. We should never discredit genuine heartfelt effort in questions, ideas and their testing. She left this world a warrior of science, and she deserves every bit of our respect. Discussing her ideas like this is a beautiful way to honor her memory.

Was at UNSW physics with Marni and admired her formidable intellect. She was such a lovely person and there was a ton of respect for her from fellow students and academic staff. I'm really cut up that she passed away so young. She had some terrible struggles but great achievements. Thanks for honouring her with this video. Rest in peace, Marni, you won't be forgotten.

What is your stance on the whole simulation theory?

You can read all about our stance in our paper "The Self-Simulation Hypothesis Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics" by Klee Irwin, Marcelo Amaral, and David Chester! quantumgravityresearch.org/portfolio/the-self-simulation-hypothesis-interpretation-of-quantum-mechanics/

It'd be cool if you guys could have Donald Hoffman over as a guest speaker, but his approach is to start with spacetime emerging from consciousnesses, which is the reverse of your approach. But maybe his math could be of use to you.

Is she the person who is in the "What Is Reality?" video on this channel? edit: This one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w0ztlIAYTCU.html

No, you're thinking of Marion Kerr. Marni was a physicist and a friend of QGR.
