Gruul has always amazed me that a card that has such a powerful ability could fare so poorly. It grows so large so quickly- its amazing to me that it’s never found a place, not even in a deck like Big Priest.
Actually this video is incorrect, Greenskin was heavily used in oddrogue, that's what I crafted him for, and that was the deck that I used to get legend that month.
in addition to that, he also mentions it would need to see play in a aggro/tempo kind of deck, but this isn't the case with bomb worrior as the deck lean more towards a control deck.
Yeah I ran greenskin in odd rogue. And I’m currently using him in my burgle rogue. Him plus deadly poison plus the various other class cards turns cutlass into budget kingsbane.
One detail you missed. Bomb warrior and some tempo rogue decks running burgle synergies have weapons where there is a significant effect on swing, with a bomb in warrior and heal in rogue. In a sense, these decks are a form of tempo-control, midrange perhaps, which allows greenskin to be played to fulfill both the aggressive immediate benefit and future impacts on survivability for both players.
He was ran in the meta version of odd rogue for at least a bit I remember. Maybe he means not a staple? But really I feel like he's seeing the same style of use as he has in previous decks.
raiding party is the real issue, a 3 mana draw 3 that tutors for a weapon that potentially gives you 2 3/3 taunts for free is unfair, especially in a class with prep
ye like wtf if you prep out the raiding party and get the waggle pick, you're getting 9 mana of tempo for free over 2 turns wtf in the early game too lammme

I was planning to make bomb warrior mainly because it seemed fun to constantly be on the edge of my Seat of “is he gonne draw it” and my opponent being scared shitless the entire time especially because I have alexstraza (my pride and joy) and got EXTREMELY lucky with my first pack being blastmaster boom (still my only legendary but thats beside the point). Was extremely suprised to see captain Greenskin in the decklist and COULDNT figure out why use greenskin if you can just use upgrade. Now I know, thanks for that
getting a legendary on the first pack isn't rare at all due to the fact that you are guaranteed to get a legendary in the first 10 packs of any expansion so theoreticly speaking any pack you've never opened before has a 1/10 chance of a legendary the rarer part is actually pulling blastmaster boom, but hey appreciate your luck
@@justinjakeashton Makes it better agains Aggro. It starts as an Ironbark Protector that grows if left alive. Would make it see play? Probably not. But at least it could see play on some weird meta, while today's Grull I can't imagine seeing play on any meta.
for illidan just swap his stats then he actully can survive to get his effect off fulyl next turn, even with flames having rush hed be easly killed and expensive.
I feel the games needs to infuse about 30 cards that can’t be detroyed in one hit, or just tougher minion into the game, to make it a little more appetizing, so that your minion doesn’t have to be stated up to survive. -More minions like Snapjaw shellfighter -More divine shield (I see Blizzard working on this one) -This minion can only take 2 damage at a time. -Battlecry gain Immune until your next turn -This minion must be targeted to take damage -this minion cannot be frozen or poisoned -this minion is immune while you opponent has 4 or less cards in hand -Multi shield (2 divine shields) -death rattle if this minion is on your opponents next turn **return to hand** _perfectly balanced_
Pirate decks were meta FAR before Rise of Shadows lol. Pirate Warrior was the #1 deck in Whispers of the Old Gods and Captain Greenskin was insane in that deck too. They had to nerf both Patches the Pirate and Fiery War Axe to balance the deck for the meta and it was STILL top-tier. Don't badmouth my goblin boy.
But Penniless, what about Thief/Tesspionage Rogue which use it to extend the duration of Spectral Cutlass? Also to confirm with some other folks in the comment, Pirate Warrior did use Greenskin. Because it seemed you always had to kill your opponent with a massive Arcanite Reaper
also I had a greenskin tempo rogue in standard last year. in fact I made a deck on hearthpwn called "captain greenskin, needs YOU!!!" if you want to check it out. So he was being used. I get what you mean though, he's a lot better now.
Play Illidan Stormrage in my “Token” Warlock. After a board clear, playing him with two 1-2 Mana minions make for an easy board re-fill. The cards weakness is the “low” health, making him a 6/6 would greatly help, but the card isn’t that useless at the moment
the only reason greenskin wasn’t an automatic inclusion in pirate warrior was because bloodsail cultist was superior at the time. That card made pirate warrior and sometimes it was still worth it for an extra upgrade effect.
hey here is an idea for illadin: if blizzard ever goes full sacrifice sort of thing, ie the various destroy a friendly minion to do something cards, illaidin could provide free sacrifices along with board presence as for gruul, maybe cost reduction and handbuffing?
Illidan works in wild even reno warlock, where he is a valuable large demon that gul'dan can resummon and synergizes with the additional 2-cost cards you would normally run in that deck. Not a standout card by any means but certainly playable, which is really not too different from greenskin in standard right now.
I used him last year in wild odd pirate rogue to buff my shadowblade and enable a free corsair or 2. of course waggle pick does this without even needing buffed though.

I agree with the Gruul is weak point of view, it is not weak when been summoned, but weak if it is added in your deck and then played from your hand, the deck with 30 cards only is very precious on the decision making and majority of time cannot afford to add Gruul in.
Would it be fair to say that Illidan would need a buff, and that Gruul will pretty much never work? Illidan’s weakness is he’s too weak to play for his cost, so a stat reversal would be amazing. As for gruul, you can’t really make him viable. I think if he WERE to be able to fit into decks, he would most likely be too strong, as +1/+1 at the end of EACH turn would be a massive advantage. Like Malygos, if he became strong he’d be generally unhealthy for the game.
Greenskin saw play before now also. It saw serious play in pirate warrior back when that deck was OP. I know fore sure in wild and I'm pretty sure before then in standard.

I think Illidan needs a tempo deck that doesn't play minions so the most likely candidates are Hunter and Mage and I think mage is the more likely of the two since hunter doesn't need illidan to go fast and a spell focused deck is far from their best tempo deck so a Mage tempo spell deck is most likely what is needed for illidan to work and yet it loses hard to aoe so going against a control deck is a death sentence while it will most likely be too slow to deal with tempo rogue and is likely outclassed by token Druid. I would theorize that maybe a secret tempo mage deck using subject nine and other secret synergy cards with something like frost novas, shooting star, and arcane explosion being used to hold off the while still using direct damage cards to push for the win. So in conclusion this deck will be hard to balance and use. Now if you don't want to go the secret route likely a deck with sorcerers apprentice mana worm and some projects to draw a ton try to just burst your enemy down in which this deck illidan would most likely be the worst card slow clunky yet tempo orientated. TLDR: Most likely illidan can only be used in a tempo spell mage and he would be the weakest link in that deck

@@DragonKing-mj2rk A lot of bad choices were made during the Rastakhan time, I think I regret every decision I made back then. I didn't had the cards to craft the decks that used Greenskin, and I thought that after Kingsbane rotated it would never see play, so I disenchanted it to craft something else. Terrible idea.
Btw having aggro being slower is painful af, we always end up with unpleasant warlock zoo and other aggro deck, im a huge fan of warlock but because aggro is slower, handlock is just ok and handlock and warlock zoo always end up having an unfun list
omg i had to read this 5 times to understand what the hell you read but idk what you mean about slower aggro decks being bad, aggro in general is really unfun to play against, if a slower deck gets a bad hand there is nothing you can do, having slower aggro decks allows for other decks to actually have a fighting chance
@@DragonKing-mj2rk yeah sorry i had issues explaining myslef. I somehow enjoy playing aggro (not all decks but some of them) even playing agaisnt aggro is fine to me, it feels better than that tempo rogue or any warrior. With all the nerfs to aggro deck, you now have to play some cards that make aggro unfun to play. I play a lot warlock zoo so i ll talk bout it, last year u had a heal version cause ghoul was op, u could make insane t1 or t2 but it relied on your hand, also keleseth was too strong in hand. This year we have that 1/6 and 10 cards worth 1 mana with 1 attack, it just doesnt feels aggro, and then once again you win most of the time thanks to few cards : giants or the 7mana 7/8 leg with good rng....
@@DragonKing-mj2rk zoo may have always been strong thx to few cards, idk, but still it doesnt feels that great, but by the time, in aggro hunter, mage, rogue and warrior it was made of early cards with impact, which feels more aggro. The only issue with these decks was when they forced cards to be played, pirate crabs wdre played just for these deck and it was painful

Penniless you are wrong about the history of this card it first saw competitive play in aggro burn shaman during wotog then in mean streets warriors used it.
Greenskin did see play before Rise of Shadows in Pirate Warrior, Odd Rogue, and I'm pretty sure one other deck I simply can't recall. Please try to buff up your research, Penniless, it's really starting to become grating 😔
DragonKing3013 the reason captain greenskin hasn’t been played is because everyone net decks and copies each other. Now this fool, instead of saying “why didn’t I think of that?” Is hastily trying to come up with a reason to justify why he never thought to play Greenskin. The whole “be on front on the board is the only reason it works now” is a load of BS. And Wagglepick is 4dmg not 5 so that doesn’t make sense ether. It’s simple, this guy is too busy copying everyone else is not original.
I can't speak for Penniless, but I would assume it's because Leeroy is a finisher, so his numbers get skewed. In particular, the Played Winrate stat is rather meaningless for finishers like Leeroy and Pyroblast, since they are only ever played when they would win the game. It's a case of the card taking the credit from the supporting cast, and one of the reasons to be skeptical of overvaluing statistics when evaluating cards.
