I had just started scrolling to the comment section to complain about your take on Fanottem when I saw this as the pinned message. Now I'm scrolling back to the video
@@Silver-ow9noits a card in magic that allows you to destroy a creature, so the joke is it dies to removal which makes the card worse. Its just been a running joke in the magic community
Doomblade in magic only destroys nonblack creatures so 5/6 times it's good 5 colors and colorless in magic everything dies to it for 2 mana except other black spells
Day9, jokingly: "I have never been wrong about any balance prediction, ever!" Also Day9: nails pretty much everything with detailed and well-reasoned analysis
Yeah, I think one of the only things he really underestimated here was the power of the Hail Mary in that Yogg-Saron Prison card, which he was clearly immediately kicking himself over.
@@apawhite even that, there's literally no way of knowing that would be the case without having any knowledge of the pool of spells available, so in a way he didn't really get it wrong
@@rajkanishu Not specifically, but anyone who's played a competitive card game has definitely seen a game swing drastically so a near-guaranteed win/loss was flipped by a reckless Hail Mary (because what do you have to lose?).
@@apawhite That sounds like a very uniquely Hearthstone specific scenario not a general card game thing. Coin flip mechanics aren't really seen in other games
@@katesperinck1401 Actually, I started out playing Android Netrunner. Any time a player throws long-term sustainability away in favour of a last, desperate gamble, that's a Hail Mary, and it will seem to pay off a disproportionate amount of the time.
Holy crap not only is Day9 on point with most of his analysis but the 2 of you are an amazing comedic duo. Maybe you guys can do some more colabs in the future.
Dies to Doom Blade is a Magic the Gathering joke, as Doom Blade is a 2 mana kill-most-things-removal spell and at the time, anything that didn't get you immediate value would be bad due to "dying to doom blade". Now people just use it as a meme to make anything sound bad ("yeah, but it dies to doom blade, therefore it sucks")
As a old MTG player (played until 6th edition and picked it back up in 2019 for a year) I had to look up the card. Reminds me of Terror. Although terror has the added benefit of not allowing regeneration (we called it Bury back in the day), but the downside is not being able to use it on artifacts.
It’s not only just a meme but also is valid argument - “I play a creature” -> “I kill your creature” is a common interaction between players. So if you play a creature and doesn’t get anything out of it (assuming your opponent kills it right away) then it’s a questionable inclusion.
It's funny cause Day9 is actually a super talented gamer when it comes to strategy, but he has too much fun doing dumb shit for memes. It's what makes him so great to watch. Can't wait for his stream today.
He's played a lot of many different card games so he has really good instincts. He's had his hopes crushed too many times. I feel like Rarran always gives Cornelius Roame, for example, as a bait but devoid of all logic Day9s instincts immediately told him how bad a 6-mana yeti would feel to play.
I am glad that Rarran finally found a partner that can keep up with his energy, best of luck to you two. All seriousness, I love your collabs with him.
*war flashbacks to playing against Omnath in modern & pioneer* I'm very upset with you, OP. I didn't expect to see an S-tier MtG war criminal getting name-dropped in a hearthstone comment section lol
You can tell this was recorded before Whizbang’s release, since Fannatom is actually pretty good now thanks to Wheel (and has further synergy with the 6 mana dude who discovers a minion and summons a taunt with stats equal to it’s own)
@@Rynianowhich is crazy because at the same time chaotic tentacle warrior is viable specifically because the only 2 10 mana spells it can roll are both amazing, especially the mage one
Day9's ratings are terrifyingly accurate. For a person who has not touched the game in years, it is really, really good. And Day9 is just hilarious as always.
Call back to when I was in a control mirror. I played prison of yogg while entering fatigue, and you'll never believe what happened. It cast 3 arcane intellects, killing me on the spot. 10/10 will use again :)
Actually insane that Day9 figured out Roame just based on imagining a hypothetical alternative universe where he continued playing hearthstone. How in the hell did he manage that one I will never know.
'Dies to doomblade' is an absolute classic of MTG jokes/lines/bits. For context for anyone wondering: Doomblade is a 2 mana spell that says 'destroy target non-black creature'. When evaulating the quality of a creature card it is often useful to consider how well it protects itself and what value it provide besides simply being on board (e.g. ETB or dies triggers will make most cards a lot better). So the idea is if a card dies to cheap removal like doomblade then it isn't worth much, especially if the creature has a much higher mana value than 2 and doesn't provide ETB or death value. The bit is pretty versatile since you can use it sarcastically to evaulate a genuinely good card (e.g. 'Questing Beast might have a lot of text but it dies to doomblade'), or you can use it while sincerely evaulating a card (e.g. 'Questing Beast might have a lot of text but it dies to doomblade').
That Questing Beast example made me laugh out loud. I was also thinking the haste would still count for it vs doomblade but apparently not. Glad I've never played a (draft) set with that level of removal!
Reminds me of some of the old Hearthstone phrases like 'dies to Hero Power' for anything with 1 Health, or 'dies to Silence' if the effect of the card is good but people are playing Silence effects.
We've seen Yugioh -> Hearthstone, Magic -> Yugioh, Hearthstone -> Runeterra, and every combination thereof, but never would I guess we'd see Hearthstone -> Hearthstone.
Sean: "OH NOOO, IT'S WAXADRED" Man, you know what that reminded me of? When he was reviewing the set with Y'sharj, and he got google to pronounce it for him... Why-shah-arr-jay had me laughing until I was turning blue, I was wheezing and seeing spots lmao
Honestly after showing Cornelius Roame it would've been interesting to show him Aluneth which unironically saw play until like Sayge replaced it as the top end draw in secret mage.
This is the best of the series by far. Your chemistry with day 9 is amazing. And the videos went from feeling unprofessional to start with, some understanding mistakes and whatnot but now you have really mastered this video style W Rarran.
04:00 Bad Luck Albatross was nerfed to 4 mana and later unnerfed for a while. 28:30 Is Darkbishop still in Standard? If so, or maybe even if not, he might wanna take a look for some shadow priest.
Holy crap Rarran this content has been absolute banger after banger. Its becoming more and more apparent how much I need all of my OG Hearthstone streamers back in my life. Day9 is one of the few that i never stopped watching and he's a truly magical soul. Thank you for making all of these wonderful videos!!!!
00:00 It's ma man Sean!!! Holy crap! Long ago i was a Mod for Day9TV on the Starcraft 2 Strategy Forum. I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this video! Give this man ALL the love!!!!
@@diegodoumecq5144 You fool For just 3 more mana, a Warrior can turn Renathal into a 42/40 with charge and go face! Doesn't beat Minecracker Druid though
Day9 makes light of his analysis but he did so good. Super stoked to see him come back (if ever so briefly). I'm going to claim with absolutely no basis to this that he's kept up a little bit with the scene, because he's so insightful here.
Only 4 minutes into this video, and Rarran, you knocked it out of the park again. If Day9 is ever available to make more videos with you, please try and get him for more, because these videos are honestly so so good!
Day9 hearthstone nostalgia is hitting so hard. I almost smiled the entire video because of this man. I am also this guy. Haven't touched HS since Season 3? Which was Secrets of Naxx I believe.. but played OG HS with all the AID's decks like Zoo, and Control warrior, an Miracle rogue, or OTK Druid.
Rarran i gotta say I've never stuck with watching a hearthstone creator for so long. Your vid ideas are always click worthy and I always end up staying till the end.
I'm a Day[9] fan, but new to Rarran, and the two of y'all have some INCREDIBLE onscreen chemistry. Would LOVE to see some more collab videos of the two of you. Also, some really nice editing!
That take on Cornelius Roame was so on point. This guy looks so good, was very hyped up going into the expansion, and then people tried it and it just feels bad. Absolutely amazing intuition!
16:53 "You remember getting Edwin VanCleefed on turn 3? Imagine if that had stealth." It did, lmao. They had to nerf it the same way for the same reason. That was back in the closed beta, but still.
Dude Rarran! You missed such an opportunity with the fist card to go "Oh, I forgot to send you the token.", then send him the Spanish Inquisition. Not a card. The real one.
You really should show them the prenerfed version if the card was nerfed. Two reasons, first it gives them a better chance of them getting it right, second if they get it wrong, you can show that it was so strong they had to nerf it.
Day9 is gonna be "channeling the power of the duck" on his upcoming streem! Also, dies to doom blade is hilarious, and I still rewatch his math joke video!
The Albatross showed up and my first thought was "I wonder if Rarran is gonna be biased from his PTSD from that one match where he had a million Albatross added into his deck?" lol
It's always such a joy to watch this balding man who I've been following since 2010 but stopped in like mid 2014 after I lost interest in SC2/HS. Day9 I miss you.
Wow day9 waking up on the right side of the bed this day, not only making great predictions but unbelievable charisma. Hugely entertaining video, great synergy between the two folks here, one of the best videos you've put out Rarran. You are a great entertainer as well but holy smokes day9 really showing why he is one of the greatest of all time here. Absolutely loving the vibe you two put out.
i dont play constructed so i didnt know about the Reno "It's high noon" reference but that's hilarious. McRee/Cassidy is voiced by Matt Mercer and Reno is voiced by Travis Willingham, who are good friends and both part of Critical Role.
22:30 Fanottem rn is quite good in Wheel Warlock, and it's funny, because I've won games because Dirty Rat inadvertently summoned it.
There's just something about Day9's eloquence and witty humor that draws me in. The lack of any fillers with his sentences just makes him so captivating to listen to. Also his math jokes.
On the Scholomance thing, basically it was a mage academy that Kel'Thuzad founded while he was the Lich King in order to train new necromancers to join his forces.
