I remember the third act of this really catching me off guard, Korra looking at her reflection with those dark circles under her eyes and appearing so broken and devastated, in the wheelchair, crying at Jinora's coronation, it's a real shock to the system for someone we're used to seeing very poised and confident. That PTSD is gonna hit her hard.

Imo this show has ALWAYS done an amazing job at showing mental health. Korra is done so well in that way. A lot better than most live action things even. Depression, PTSD, other mental illnesses are done great!

I would like to point out Korra's strength in this episode. Not bending strength or willpower but literal physical strength. She broke 3 of the 4 *PLATINUM* chains holding her in the cave. Since we know you can't bend platinum because it's too pure that means she physically broke them. And before you say she was in the Avatar State which makes her stronger because of her past lives, reminder they Aang and others are *GOOONE!* Thats right...! She's using her own physically power with no help, she is that strong and not to mention even if this was a kids shows, she was out to kill Zaheer for ''killing'' her father

I totally agree with you. But the Avatarstate doesnt offer power just through the past lives. Dont forget that ist literally powered by one of the two most powerfull spirits of all time. I think the physical boost comes mostly from rava and the strategic, skilled and wisdom side comes from the past lives.

@@david.sandler27 Exacty. Korra’s natural strength is still enhanced through the Avatar state but because she no longer has access to her past lives, she can’t perform techniques that she wasn’t already capable of out of the Avatar state. For example, she can no longer restore/take away people’s bending because that ability came from Aang.

What I love about the show is that the villains have complex motives and that their goals and ambitions aren’t bad, just taken to an unhealthy extreme. Each villain attacks Korra on such a personal level that forces her to question so much about herself and whether or not the Avatar is even needed. This episode in particular was hard because the greatest hurt didn’t come from Zaheer, but Tenzin. I know Tenzin didn’t mean it that way, but him taking over was the final nail which hurt Korra more than enemy did when her mentor tells her she’s not needed.

About Korra not staying in the Avatar State, Avatars still get the full power of the Avatar State even if their eyes glow temporarily. It just doesn’t last as long as it would if they permanently stay in that state. And even though her connection with the previous Avatars has been severed it still is most certainly relevant. Think back to the very first Avatar State with Wan - it was incredibly powerful even back then.
@tomw4955
@tomw4955 4 месяца назад
yep. Also I feel like they missed the entire point as they questioned why they would force her into the avatar state: Cause their goal was to Kill Korra and not have her reborn. And that is only possible when you kill the avatar in the Avatar state. Thats why they didnt off her in Zhaofu. She would have been reborn as an earthbender. If they kill her in the State she is gone forever. Gotta say that was annoying. especially when these two had so many times gotten things and kept a lot of stuff in mind before.

Just for clarity, because there still seems to be some confusion. The Avatar generally doesn't remain in the Avatar State. It is when they are the most powerful, but also the most vulnerable, because their death would end the Avatar cycle. Aang only remained in the Avatar State for extended periods because he couldn't control it. The first time he remained in it, while being in control of it, Azula literally killed him and almost ended the cycle. I hope this helps clear things up. 😁

Juat incase you guys don't know, no avatar is suppose to just stay in the avatar state. It only happened with dang because he wasn't in control. That's why at the end of the show he went in then out just for the power boost so he could put out the fires. Staying in it gives too much opportunity to die in it.

I have mad respect for the writers of this show for ending this season like this. I know that for the first time they had confirmation that they could do the next season (hence all the Kuvira foreshadowing lol) but ending a Nickelodeon show aimed to young audiences with the protagonist looking so defeated is such a gutsy move. I was a teen when I watched this season for the first time and that final scene hit me like a punch. Rewatching as an adult that now suffers with PTSD is even more powerful. I know a lot of people didn't like the final season, but just the fact that we got to see Korra's journey into healing, not something magically easy, it was hard, slow and painful. It was so real and raw. But she did get through it and came to terms with what happened to her. Again, such a powerful message to young audiences, no one will ever be able to convince me this is a bad show!

Unalaaq definitely knew what he was getting into, his issue was the show just presented him as such a mustache twirling villain from the start. With the red lotus the show treats them with more mystery as to what their goals are even if it’s still the super basic end the avatar to change the world. Zaheer is up there as best villain in either atla or lok along with azula and Amon.

2:16 the avatar state is a massive power boost no other human has except for the avatar due to Raava's connection. Korra actually had a pretty great control over the avatar state even before she lost the connection to her past lives lime you see on book ,2, she's just not always in the avatar state cause it's not necessary and worth the risk to die in it so she doesn't always use it to fight. I'd say her control is better than Aang's due to her personality overcoming the influence of the other avatars . What you see here is exactly what Zaheer said, she was fighting the poison in order tk not enter the avatar state

They had to kill the Avatar cycle. As long as people expected a new one to arise, it would be an attachment to an old world instead of forging a new one. Like Thanos in Endgame just deciding to tear it all down because the survivors tried to bring back the those who were snapped.

@@Phoenix-King-ozai Zaheer was an anarchist. An agent for chaos. No control. no oversight. The Avatar (with raava) is the whole antithesis to that. She is an agent of balance and Raava in her very nature an upholder of the status quo. In his extreme view it made sense to corrupt or when he couldnt eliminate the Avatar in his position entirely. (this is sth that I think Vaatu is interesting and not evil solely There needs to be chaos and change too in the world. ANd A part of me actually wished that from now on we would have two avatars after Korra. One with spirit of raava and one with Vaatu.

I feel like Unalaq is drastically misunderstood. His overall goal was to reunite the Physical/Spirit Worlds, but he wanted to be on top. He thought he could fuse with Vaatu and simply set himself up as God-Emperor and use his knowledge of the spirits to shape the world to his will. He simply wanted power and thought this would be the way to obtain it, but he underestimated the importance of balance. Unalaq's demise came from his arrogance. Vaatu had retained his immense power living in stasis in the Tree of Time, so when Unalaq fused with him, his physical form was altered (much like how the people in Wan's time would take on physical traits of spirits that possessed them), and he was forced to revoke his humanity to get it. He then thought if he pushed hard enough, he could fully extinguish Raava's light and would no longer have an adversary to contend with. That's why when Korra used Spirit-Bending to dispel Vaatu, Unalaq was destroyed as a result. Vaatu's spirit remains and will return at the next Harmonic Convergence, but Unalaq's spirit was fully eradicated. Now, I'm not saying this means Unalaq was justified in his goals, but he did have a goal in mind. He was just not as powerful as he believed he was and wasn't able to manifest his desired outcome.

Ahh ... finally caught up. 😁 _So_ glad you girls got to watch arguably the best Book/season in the Avatar lore. Here's some info on the poison the Red Lotus forced into Korra's system. It's metal and liquid at normal temperatures, so it probably can't be anything else but mercury. Mercury poisoning is known to cause weakness, hallucinations, and depression, so the writers obviously did their homework on this. It also appeared that Suyin pulled around _a gallon_ of the stuff out of Korra, so not only was Korra likely carrying enough of it in her body to kill an elephant, she was also carrying around an extra 100 + lbs. as she fought Zaheer.

Quick point on The Avatar State. The Avatar is not meant to stay in it, Hang did because he had no control over the power. But when we see him in the flashbacks when he is older, you can see him using it properly. Tapping into it (which is why the eyes just flash and quickly go back to normal) gives the same benefit and acts like the boost it's meant to be. Whenever you see an Avatar in the Avatar State and they stay in it, is often in times like this when Korra was literally fighting for her life and was constantly fighting off the effects of the poison, and when Aang had no control over it and often went in it when he was mad and emotional. It is both the most powerful version of the Avatar State but also the most vulnerable. Which again is why when you saw Roku, Kyoshi, older Aang, and other past Avatars when they had full control they would always just tap into it as their eyes flashed to represent tapping into the power and quickly doing some intense and increid le feat of bending. Like when Kyoshi moved her island, or when Aang broke from the bloodletting grip in the flashbacks. In short, Avatar Temporary Flashy Eyes = Good and control. A constant Avatar State = Cornered agressive Animal's last ditch effort to survive and not die.

First off, I watch you guys a lot and I think everyone is doing an awesome job, but I wanna offer some constructive criticism: I think the compilation of the Zaheer vs Korra fight features a poor choice of cuts. I don't know who the editor for the korra reactions is, or if there is a specific reason for that, but I think you missed a few of the best animated sequences like korra throwing the giant boulder and the well made tracking shot around the rock pillar. The visible reaction of the girls wasn't particularly intense at the moment, so I get why it might have been cut short, but I think it doesn't do justice to the source material. I don't know about others, but I do watch reaction videos of shows I've already seen and love, to relive and remember the good parts and I felt a bit let down, because some memorable scenes for me were missing in this epic finale. But in general I think the editing on this channel is very good and the quality of content is generaly impressive. Of course also due to the great reactions of Arianna and Maple and their great dynamic and Chad, who is a welcome change. You guys give off great vibes and I enjoy watching you all. - Jinora is the best, is she not? My eyes tear up in that scene - she looks so much like her grandfather and I wish she could be here to see it! 😢💔😭 It would've been *amazing* if Aang could've manifested through Korra right here, just like others have manifested through Aang, in order to spend just a few minutes showing how proud he is of what Tenzin and Jinora have done - I don't love Raiko, but I will defend him slightly here - he wasn't being ableist. He was probably being selfish, yeah. But he was just pointing out the uncomfortable truth - the Avatar canNOT be an effective Avatar if s/he is handicapped - that's just how this world works. They must learn in every life to bend all four elements, which REQUIRES them to have a healthy body. At the moment, Korra could advise people on issues, or maybe she could do things in the spirit world, but she literally can't protect anyone.

But in this season we see her soloing THREE Red Lotus bosses, while poisoned and in chains. And then fighting Zaheer (that is a monster by himself) and make him seriously sweat. And supposing this poison is mercury, Korra would be having SERIOUS muscular paralysis, and kicking "Guru Lahima's boy's" ass. Korra has many flaws. Weakness is not one of them.

I had to pause at the 2 minute mark. Pls. PLS. Tell me someone told them why Korra wasnt staying in her avatar state. 1st: Their confusion of why Korra is only using the Avatar state sparingly: Thats how your supposed to do it. It is dangerous to do so for long period of times. Only in severe cases like: Fighting the spirit of Chaos and darkness, or a tyrant firelord powered up by Sozins comet. Otherwise it often is sufficent to give yourself a boost and do one thing like kyoshi. As to here: That has nothing to do with it. Korra fighting the avatar state is HER fighting to not enter it on Purpose cause she knows that they will kill her. and than its over. She has accepted to die here. She wants them to try and do it but at least so that the cycle isnt broken. She is sacrificing herself. Her life. A lot of reactors miss this. Thats the plan. even before she knew about the poison. She tried to surive but in her mind when it comes down to it she is willing to trade her life for the new air nation and give the torch to the next avatar. ICONIC. BRAVE. Legendary. Truly this season is when Korra came into her own as an avatar. and its beautiful. EDit: Wonderful Reaction though. And Jinoras annointment to Master is probably the best ending of the Entire franchise. Its got so many emotional layers. First Master in her generation. Knowing that when Tenzin was made Master there were only 2 airbenders. She looking exactly like Aang without hair. Korra being so sad and feeling useless. As the Airbenders are now taking part of her job. (she is glad but also sad). Jeremy Zuckerman (who did the Music for both shows) Did probably my FAVOURITE Piece called Service and sacrifice here that just gets the tears out of you.

2:19 that is a good question, technically it is relevant but not that much since the loss of the past lives 12:49 the best part of the entire season and to me, a perfect ending

If you want a real horror story, look up what mercury poisoning does to your memory as well as your body - then you realise it's the most awful thing ever shown on Nickelodeon.

Season 3 is quite compelling. At first. Once Zaheer reveals his "philosophy ", it falls apart rather quickly. The writers are clearly commenting on the philosophy of anarchism, the suspicion and criticism of power structures and hierarchy. Alas the writers only understanding of anarchism amounts to that edgy friend you had who listens to metal, trying to take down the man. Their portrayal ends up being this childish american libertarianism. So it's just Avatar good bad guy bad.

I wasn't as big a fan of Korra as I was Avatar. i.e. I've watched Avatar 3, mayyybe 4 times all the way thru, and recently in anticipation or your reactions... Korra I never revisited. I was so stoked on the 1st episode, when, she was a young kid and said, "I'm the Avatar, Deal with it!" I was like, oh great, total opposite of Ang. But, so many times she was so unnecessarily headstrong, I just tuned out.... I did like some of the supporting characters: Tenzin, Lin Beifong, and Jinora. But, I gotta be honest... I wanted to know more about the Red Lotus... I wanted to see more of that character development. I mean if they had something better written for them, then just that universe's version of Libertarians... I did hear the writing suffered because they ran out of money...

Except I believe that poison was specifically designed FOR the Avatar though, Maple. Zaheer even said it will force Korra into the Avatar State to fight it off. So in him, it's really a guess as to if it would even be as effective, or even work at all.

It wasn't "ableist", what President Raiko said. It wasn't like "Now, that she's in a wheelchair, she is no Avatar anymore." Their whole world has always relied on the Avatar solving crises and the 100-Year-War taught them, how bad it can be without one. Now there's a new crisis and Korra will be out of it for at least some months. It's good, that Raiko uttered that, because it gave Tenzin his idea of roaming the world and helping wherever possible.

Honnestly i don't mind season 4 as much as some people do ... But you really gotta admit that if they just added Zuko and Katara (who isn't there for whatever reason) in the final scene it would've been the PERFECT end to this show ... Ending on Jinora getting her tattoos and looking like Aang and symbolizing the renew of the air nation...

Not to be on the side of shitty politicians, but worrying about the bigger picture is like, their whole job. Solid bit of irony that the person who made Korra feel like her insecurities about the Avatar's place in the modern world were justified was Tenzin.

Honestly, the show should have ended here. It was the best finale and had the best up and down. That there was hope even if Korra paid such a high price for it.

I liked S4. It wasn't as good at S3 but it was pretty good. Besides, you want to deny Korra the character growth she's been building toward all this time?

No the show should not have ended. Korra in a wheelchair? The last season was good too. I didn’t like it that much before but after rewatching it I appreciate it more.
