The Legend of Spyro - Ozymandias - Storyboarded Malefor MAP Part 9 

My theory was that Malefor was lied to, the dragons kept secrets from him about his kind and what he was meant to be. I believe he was right that every Purple Dragon was meant to bring the birth of a new world, but Malefor took that to the extreme as a hateful riddance of a lying world. Malefor was told he was ‘the first purple dragon’, yet Ignitus tells Spyro that once every 10 generations a Purple dragon is born, odd because Malefor was the previous one before Spyro. How can there be a legend of a 10 generation mystical dragon when there have only been 2 purple dragons? So either the Guardian’s lied to Malefor or Ignitus lied to Spyro. I’m going to stick with the Malefor side of this topic for the rest of this comment then explain why I also think an ‘Ignitus lied’ theory can work in a separate comment. Malefor was told he was the first Purple Dragon and trained with the current set of Guardians, but his power scared them (the Chronicler’s voice shook when he spoke of Malefor’s power). When Malefor wanted to learn more magic beyond what the Guardians had taught him, I imagine they said ‘no’. He wanted to learn more about his kind and probably managed his way to some form of sealed archive that had information on Purple Dragons, that they bring upon a new age/world to the dragons. In his anger I can imagine the Dark Aether managing to take a brief hold of Malefor and having him read up on darker magic. Finding out about the Destroyer and other crueler spells. Upon having found Malefor in the archive he probably lashed out angrily at them for lying and in turn they banished him for learning forbidden magic. Once alone, Malefor found friendship with the apes who saw he could grant them power beyond their imaginations, so they rose up to become his army etc. Malefor wanted to destroy the world but before he could succeed the original Guardians sealed him into Convexity, he left instructions for the Apes to follow in order for him to return. But upon his return, the apes were not dear followers but greedy cowards who only wanted power, they lied just as everyone before had done. So he cursed them to hide in the shadows, unable to die but unable to live. Then he made golems etc in order to fulfil his destiny to make a new world, by destroying the one that betrayed him.

Now moving onto the Ignitus lied theory. In The Eternal Night, Ignitus constantly doesn’t tell Spyro anything about Malefor, when Spyro asks what was behind the portal in A New Beginning he is told ‘that doesn’t concern you!’ by Ignitus. It’s very abrupt and odd for him to be so cold to Spyro at such a small question. Ignitus may have lied about the dragon prophecy in order to have Spyro help the cause in stopping Malefor’s forces, there are many moments where Ignitus’ praise for Spyro is suddenly dulled down. Why does he feel the need not to praise Spyro? Maybe Malefor was held too high in his regard and it got to his head, so Ignitus didn’t want that for Spyro? The Eternal Night is definitely a key aspect in the Ignitus lied theory, he does EVERYTHING he knows to keep Spyro away from that mountain, he keeps the young dragon at arms length about everything related to The Dark Master. I’m not saying Ignitus is a bad guy, I know he probably did what he did in order to protect Spyro or to stop another Malefor from existing. Spyro was very stubborn and hard-headed in the game, you can see his frustration get the better of him and he is angry when the Chronicler tells him to just ride it out. He might deny it, but given the right push Spyro could have become Malefor.

@@EctoSpaceCadet Oooooo that’s a cool theory that could be turned into a game where Malefor is the main character (and we go down the story of how it all happened bit by bit until Spyro’s story begins) mayhaps… 😏
