The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past Glitches - Son Of A Glitch - Episode 25 

I managed to get to the secret Chris Houlihan room one time when I was playing this as a kid. I freaked out and tried forever to find the room again but never could. It was one of the most amazing gaming experiences of my life, I remember thinking that I had stumbled upon something really rare & exceptional. I remember telling my friends about it and nobody believed me :[

"My name is Chris Houlihan This is my top secret room. Keep it between us, OK?" Well shit...

12:14 "Why do I look like a walking rainbow? Why won't my dash work anymore? Why are the rupees going nuts? ...I think I've finally broken the game." Andy, you've broken many games.

When you think about it, ALTTP is where the Zelda's more dark and grimy chapters started from. Link's uncle tries to stop Aghanim from taking over the castle, and dies. Link rescues Zelda and entrusts her to a priest...and just as he's ready to retrieve the Master Sword, the priest gets killed and Zelda gets taken. Then he storms Aghanim's tower just a hair too late to see Zelda get sacrificed and the world shifting into the Dark World. Sure, it only gets better from that point on, with Link finding all the artifacts and rescuing the maidens, but...heck, isn't it ironic that everything that happens in the Light World is the darker part of the game?

Hey just putting it out there I'm not sure what game version the Nintendo Switch plays but the instant game completion glitch works lol.

I've been glitching alttp for so many years now, I'm actually pleasantly surprised that you were able to explain a lot of these glitches that I didn't fully understand, which helps me in my glitching quest, but not only that, you actually knew about a glitch or two that I didn't. Much props, you are awesome.

We've all heard about the Death Mountain descent glitch plenty of times but I've never seen the way it screws up and mixes around sprite assets between the worlds. That's really neat. Kudos for going much farther with the glitch than most people have documented.

You can also use the exploration glitch in the GBA version to enter the extra dungeon you unlock after finishing Four Swords, withouth actually finishing Fourd Swords

The no-clip glitch is alot of fun. It seems like when you do this, you can access all the dungeons as well as all the caves in the game. I was able to get the bow, keys, Master Key, and several pieces of heart containers by jumping off a ledge in the Gargoyle's Domain and exiting the dungeon which puts you in Dark World Kakariko as regular link. It is raining though and there are no enemies and other characters. I am curious though how many dungeon items can be obtained this way, before you rescue Zelda the 1st time. You can repeat the no-clip trick each time you obtain an item, but the dungeon has to have a jumping spot to where you can clip back into the regular game and grab the big chest item. You can also do this and go to the room with Aganim and defeat him. It is odd cause you get to see him banish Zelda to the Dark World while Zelda is also following you. After defeating Aganim you are banished to the Dark World as bunny link with Zelda following you. This essentially breaks your game though cause even though you can then perform the no-clip again in the Dark World, without the Moon Pearl or the Mirror, there is nothing more you can do.

i think i just accidentally discovered a glitch that i haven't seen featured anywhere else yet. when you're in ganon's tower on the third floor right in front of the stairs to access the fourth floor, use the pegasus boots to dash against the wall on the opposite side of the stairs. if you do it often enough, lanmola, the boss of the palace with the pendant of power, (which you should have just fought again), will glitch out of the floor and his sprite freeze in midair. everytime you bump against the wall, then, he's gonna move some more (it only works if you bump on the wall in front of the stairs, not on the others) in his usual pattern. you can't attack him, he's just gonna move a bit everytime you bump against the wall. if you leave the room, it gets back to normal. i have the gba version in french, so i don't know where else it might work. it's not as epic as glitching through walls, but i'm kinda proud to have found it :D

Holy Crapola, I've heard of this bloody, dark world/light world mirror and bridge, glitch both by mouth and by written word, but I've never witnessed it demonstrated in game until now. It goes a lot deeper than I ever thought, no wonder everybody I actually talked to in person about it were surprised off their "assets" about me never making an attempt at it or seeing the darn thing done. Though now, I see I've been missing out and all those friends of mine were right, it looks like a whole lot of fun, and I'm going to get right on it as soon as I'm done watching/liking your video and subscribing to your channel. It's good to see there are still Legend of Zelda ALTTP enthusiasts still around like you mate. It IS quite possibly one of the top ten console games of all time, I know it's in my top ten! I can imagine a mod un-patching the item dash. That would be so useful, especially when combined with a patch that implements the dashing from Ancient Stone Tablets.

Oh, god that last one... My sister bought this bootleg version of it. And I don't know how it happened exactly, but it happened anyway! And of course it happened to 11 year old me who stole the game from my sister's room when she wasn't home when it was way past my bedtime... Let's say Amnesia ain't got shit on the pants-pissing fear I experienced that night.

you can also use the theives town glitch to enter the palace of the four swords in the gba version, its much more usefull than the one that completely destroys the game like in the video XD

the Chris hoolahan room room isnt a debug room, it was meant to be put in the game because there was a nintendo of america competition to get your name in the game, Chris won, but this wasn't told to the people developing the game, and the room remained unused and was thought of as a joke

I APPROVE! I like how you portrayed the glitch I found, however there's actually a span of those rooms where that glitch works. You can do the glitch at the end between the room shown and a room below the right side of the room before the wizard fight near Ganon's tower

That poor bastard Chris Houlihan won a Nintendo Power contest to be in a game, but they put him in a room that's completely inaccessible with normal gameplay and no one knew about until the internet. Yeesh, Nintendo is ruthless.

The Chris Houlihan room can be accessed simply by speed. Rather than it being a glitch, it's an Easter Egg put in by devs, because Houlihan won a contest put out by Nintendo. I don't think it requires a glitch.

I can't quite pick out what it is but in your intro, the way you say "glitch" really bugs me. (It always has but I just felt like bringing it up for once) It sounds muffled, like that one word was recorded in a different mic... possibly by a completely different person. And it still sounds more like "grinch" or "gunch" to me than glitch. Can it be... a glitch in your intro?

Great video XD I found a variation of the mushroom glitch at 5:51. First off you would need to find any spot in the dark world outside, where there is a ledge you can jump off sideways. 1. Stand at the ledge 2. Jump off and use the Mirror at the same time 3. Link will warp back to the light world in mid-air 4. Now he is one level above everything including enemies. He can get their attention by making noise but neither can damage each other 5. You can't use the sparkly portal you created, so find a blue portal to the Dark World or go to the Hyrule Castle gates to return to dark world. (DO NOT jump off any cliffs or dash against anything during this time. You need to keep Link one level above everything.) 6. Go to the spot where the mushroom is, then warp to the light world. 7. This is the most important and easy to mess up part. Look at the portal and the mushroom. You didn't get the mushroom when you warped to the light world because you're still above everything (as long as you haven't jumped off any ledges or dashed into a wall). Now back off and look at the portal and mushroom. Make sure they are occupying the EXACT SAME SPACE. Down to the last single pixel. 8. Dash into a nearby wall, then walk into the mushroom and portal. Link will pick up the mushroom AND warp back to the dark world, simultaneously. 9. Now he is standing, holding air above his head forever and you can't do anything else. I imagine an annoying Chao floating above Link and saying "You got: nothing!"

Cool video man. I actually found a minor glitch today while playing the SNES version with my son. In the area where you get the blue cane, just run across the spikes allowing it to damage your health. Pick up the big gray block that is at the end of the spikes. If you have a fairy in your bottle, you will come back to life and be carrying the block, but you can move around freely instead of being stuck in once place like you would normally when lifting a giant block.

Very interesting glitches and video! I learned of the Chris Houlihan room when I was young, in an issue of Nintendo Power. Houlihan won a contest which gave him a room with his name inside the game. You can access it as soon as you have the Pegasus boots by running from either the church, or from Kakariko north entrance as fast as you can, and dropping into the Castle basement. If you were quick enough you fall in there. I've heard it also works by falling inside a specific hole in Ganon's tower. So, I wonder how it relates to what you said, that it can be caused by messing up the coordinates... I hadn't heard or seen that before. I know of another weird glitch inside the snes version. It's called *"The ghost of Misery Mire"*. I remember it had to do with an invisible enemy that doesn't actually have a sprite and acts in a different behavior than anything else in the game!! You can come in contact and be hurt by it, sometimes, when you walk in the Misery Mire, on one specific screen. You should look it up! I read that a long time ago on the web, and there was research done on it with "Hyrule Magic", with many pictures included. Really special.

I'm happy someone else did that Mirror Reset Curse glitch finally (nickname I found for it) the last one in the video. I researched it so much and did it for ages XD I restored Link to his normal sprite, I got the normal Mirror Shield and normal Gold Sword, I also got about 7.5 hearts too (and once you start collecting heart containers, they fix the hearts problem...kind of. The rainbow armor Link is wearing is literally just that -- it's a buggy suit of armor that wasn't supposed to exist. The hex address, if I remember right, has been changed to a value that it shouldn't get. 00 = Green Mail 01 = Blue Mail 02 = Red Mail 55 = Purple / Ghost Mail (one I found, basically an upgrade of the Red Mail) and this rainbow mail is some other two digits that the game randomly entered when the screen exploded. Now soldiers will steal full hearts from Link, and all the enemies that took 1/4 of a heart (like bees and bats) as well as enemies that took two hearts (like crabs, pikits, green bomb droppers and brown arrow-shooting monsters) will not hurt Link, he just bounces off of them. Enemies that took three hearts (like the bomb cyclops and the blue muncher things) will only take a 1/2 heart (as if getting attacked normally by a soldier or something). If you toss items into the Waterfall of Wishing, you can lose them forever. A couple of them can be regained and / or transformed into Pieces of Heart, and when you get them back, their sprites in the menu will be fixed. If you make the Lamp disappear forever, for example, then the shining light sprite will be frozen in a random location in dark rooms. You won't actually lose the item you threw; you'll lose a dIFFERENT item. Like, throwing a "titan's mitt" sprite (which is really the Fire Rod) actually makes Link lose the lamp, and restores the normal Fire Rod sprite. It also gives him a Piece of Heart, which becomes a Heart Container (this glitch automatically sets Pieces of Heart to 3/4) Anybody want more details, let me know, kuz I'm all typed out XD
