Finally bringing back The Legend of Zelda to Lost Bits! Here we are with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past LOST BITS!
Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused and unseen things in various games! In this video we explore Link's first major 16-bit appearance: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and take a look at some of its unused, cut and unseen content! This game has unused sprites, objects and sounds as well! This game also has a debug mode with more stuff to discover! Hope you enjoy the video! :D

@Fui Gebhardt1 well when i played the first zelda it was a bible cause it increased you magic attack and the snes sprite looks super similar to the nes sprite so i thought thats what it looked like, and they were probably thinking about putting it in then reconsidered the whole religion problem and removed it

I remember looking at the back of the box and seeing the second upgrade for the magic meter, and driving myself insane, up-turning every little stone in the game trying to find it.

Interestingly enough, by doing EG (exploration glitch) or debug mode, if you head north of the thieves town dungeon, there is a room that will crash your game. This leads me to believe that this was a placeholder room with some messed up code that crashes the game.

It doesn't look like the NES one, but it does look like *A* bible. You know Nintendo of America or whoever localized these games were pretty strict. Even something looking like a bible/cross would be changed.

The speed runners found the skull statue in an unused room. They get OoB in Hyrule Castle and walk a specific route to get to the triforce room. Though people have used it to explore.

By using the standard walk through walls glitch, you can get the big key in any of the dungeons that are connecting. From there, you can open up every single chest in every single dungeon. The game only checks to see if you got the big key in that particular dungeon and since you never exit that dungeon and all the dungeons are connected, every single big chest is accessible as long as you do that glitch.

It looks to me like the characters 'jumping for joy' might be early wizzrobes? Like the solders who you can see their faces that got scrapped, maybe they wanted wizzrobes faces to be seen too? There are different colors for different wizzrobes, and the 'arms up in the air' look like when the wizzrobe is shooting magic

The clock actually got used in the ALttP Randomizer, if you did either Timed Race or Timed OHKO (One Hit Knock Out).

That last part is called the exploration glitch. It can make the game go EXTREMELY fast, and is probably used on most glitch allowed speed-runs

I have a vague memory of how the 'sanctuary' was originally supposed to be a church, which would explain the fancy door a bit. And yeah, I agree with ryn44 - I also remember the 'keyhole' being called a bible somewhere, I can't remember it's intended function, though.

There is an unused bossfight as well. The triple moth. It's like the normal enemy but 3 of them, if you kill one, then bees appear out of it.

The first time I played Zelda Link To The Past was the Japanese Super Famicom version on my Super Famicom I had bought with a voltage converter. The game was really difficult because it was hard to figure out what to do next because the text was in Japanese but I struggled through it. When it came out here in English I had finished the Japanese version many times so I knew everything to do. I remember they had a demo cart at a Captron Nintendo video game store before the game was officially released and I played the game there and the employees and gamers watching me couldn't believe how good I was at the game. They thought I was playing it for the first time and marveled at me being able to figure out where to go and what to do next so fast. They didn't know I had already completed the Japanese Super Famicom version dozens of times. I had a lot of fun impressing everyone at how good at the game I was. I did the same thing with Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. Completed the Japanese Super Famicom version before the game was released here. There was a Japanese toy store in downtown Los Angeles and I went there and bought all the Super Famicom RPG's before they came out here.

i heared the map was supposed to be the link to the past which would mean that there was no dark world planned and instead,you would visit the past world,similar to how you can travel back in oot and oracle of seasons.would make sence of why it was later overridden by the mirror and it having the same function when accessed

As far as the unused items "small & big meat"... first of all, I do realize that it's low hanging fruit, but you have no idea how hard it is for me NOT to go for some killer knee slappers right now (especially since I've added "low hanging" and "hard" into the mix)! Anyhoo, the meats in question were most likely supposed to be used as bait again, small for small enemies, big for bigger enemies. How you figured they'd be for the magic meter is beyond me.

My theory as to why they cut the soldier who would shoot a spiked ball at Link... What would the soldier use to shoot the ball? A cannon, a gun? The existence of either would mean that Hyrule had entered a gunpowder age and Link, being an archer and swordsman, would be in an odd place. So they cut the soldier and the "cannon" age when the stories happen.

Just a hunch but i do believe at least some of of these unused item icons (like the big meat, and stopwatch) was eventually used by the Satellaview Zelda 1 remake in Japan, since it used the same graphical engine as A Link to the Past

You can beat this game just moments after starting. Steps 1 rescue Zelda from iron knight in castle. 2 fall off ledge w/ Zelda and save 3 restart 4 get hit once by iron knight 5 walk through wall 6 go three to five screens up 7 go left into next area 8 continue going up 9 reach triforce 10 beat game Estimated time to win from beginning to end 5 minutes.

I landed in the houllihan room once. I was just playing the game on my SNES like normal (I had already played and beaten it many times), had just started the game, and when I dropped into the short cut into the castle, I landed in the houllihan room instead of the basement of the castle. It was really weird! Evidently there is a very minute chance of getting the houllihan room when you start the game.

That hole into the castle is basically the main way into the Chris Houlihan room. I've never done it right at the start of the game, but I know if you load up your game, start from Link's house and drop into that hole in a short enough time, you will land in the room. You can also do it when starting from Sanctuary, again you will just need to get there quickly enough (it's not even a particularly difficult speed, you can make mistakes and still get there quickly enough) I managed to do it on the SNES emulator on Switch, and with the rewind and save state options it's super easy to do. In fact I managed to do it just by walking into Sanctuary and walking straight out again, no fresh load required.

About the cannon soldiers they can be inserted into the game and rom hackers have used them in mods for instance check out alttp parallel worlds

You can save and quit while jumping to make the game think you are on a different plane. Then take damage to enter the wall from the second floor and get to the triforce in under 4 minutes. I think the record is close to 3 minuts.

The 1/4 Magic is used. Instead of the normal 1/2 magic upgrade, there’s a slim chance that you’ll get the 1/4 magic instead.

The Quake Medallion can't freeze on screen enemies, it only turns them to slime or destroys them, the Ether Medallion is the one that can freeze on screen enemies, why does everyone always get that wrong?
