This is the most technical speedrun i've seen. Amazing! :D Direct pointer manipulation in memory is already hard during programming, let alone while actually playing the game.

Hat's off to you, that's an incredibly complicated and convoluted set of tricks, but you managed to keep it at least mostly clear what was happening and explain what was also going on at the same time.

how did the glitch get discovered though
@emmettanderson6575
@emmettanderson6575 3 года назад
I saw an explanation about it and I'm not a speed runner, but I think I can explain the gist. In the lost forest temple there was a runner who did a glitch with the boomerang where if you throw it at a skulltula token and leave the room before it makes its way back to link, it messes with the games code because things are still loaded in the other room, however you entered another room. So when The runner walked back into the room again, he had a strange prompt to pick something up but there wasn't anything there. When he followed the prompt hitting the pick up / interact button suddenly he was holding an door in his hand. so that was kind of where it started that every object has a particular code that can be accessed and modified depending on what is loaded / unloaded and links position in reference to those things. Super bizarre

Yeah I find this stuff cool and fun but it's totally different than what I usually like. I want to see a run that does no memory manipulation showcased, like Majora's Mask (before the moon warp, at least)
@69imbatman
@69imbatman 3 года назад
@@JT-hs6hc there’s a “no SRM” version of pretty much every major category for this game. you should check those out! but they’re not going to just not use the fastest route just because it doesn’t feel as speed-runny. in fact, if you ask me, this kind of route feels even more speed-runny because the purpose is to beat the game as fast as possible, using any means necessary

Tbh, I don't even enjoy OoT runs because they aren't really even playing a game anymore. It's basically just non stop messing with code, exploiting glitches, doing set ups for other super technical tricks. The game has been so broken and optimized that it's sucked almost all of the actual gameplay out of it. I love speedrunning and seeing how games can be exploited and abused, but I still want to watch the actual game being played at a high level.
