To this day I'm a bit sad we never got the third planned game in this series. I think both of the Oracle games are on the same level as Link's Awakening.
+Lurdiak Oracle of Secrets always sounded like kind of a stretch to me, and I know they incorporated some of its features into both other games. But I know what you mean. The GB Zeldas are all so great and I've always wished I could have played the third scrapped Oracle one.
1:00:45 I've been playing this game for years and never thought to play the harp to kill Pols Voices. I always used bombs, which was a real pain. I mean Zelda 1's instruction manual does say they hate sound, but I guess young me never made the connection. This is one reason I watch these runs, I always learn something new about the games even if I've played them a ton.
+Zunar The Famicom had a microphone in the controller and if you made a loud sound into it Pols Voices die. Sadly this wasn't possible in the Western releases but was still in the manual. Interesting they added that into this game via the harp.
Damn I love this game as a kid.. as a kid growing up in the 90s video games were still fresh and new and Zelda games were so fascinating. Honestly they still are.. some things never lose its magic I guess.. well others die
My god, it took me over a year to get off that island you get stranded on without your gear (and has those greedy fish creatures). I was literally a cast away, my shovel Mr. Diggs and my salty beard were all I had for months... Then here you are getting off it in mere minutes. T.T
YEAH! The audio is fixed. I fell asleep while watching this run (without knowing I did) so I missed half the run. It doesn't feel like I did, but I fell asleep near the end of his trip to Dungeon 4.
I firmly believe every gamer has a bit of masochism to them, as for some reason people really click with characters that have a penchant for being bitter and nasty lol, that being said I do enjoy the interactions with Maple, they are playful and interesting, it's so satisfying when you get that one perfect bounce, and get a potion and the heart piece at the same time!
Yea the thing you do starting at 1:42:00 is not a time paradox. It's a temporal loop. The difference is that a paradox is where you do something that causes the time traveling shenanigans to be impossible. So imagine Marty killing Doc Brown when he sees him in the past. Then the time machine would never be made which meant Marty could not have been in a position to kill Doc, meaning it all goes as normal so he is, meaning he isn't... that's a paradox. Where the actions of time travel or done during time travel invalidates itself. The actual plot of the movie is another one, Marty almost paradox-ed himself out of existence by preventing his parent's meeting, but that would also mean he wouldn't have been there to prevent it. The Goron vase nonsense is a loop. A loop is an event in history that is only made possible by the time travel. A loop is easiest to define as an event influences the past which is then put into position to influence the future so it in turn influences the past. Both of these things are plotholes in any story that by necessity leave a few questions unanswered. With the paradox the question is does it ever stop? By it's nature it annuls itself only to be reborn, is it then an infinite cycle of misery in the case of Marty murdering Doc as above? Or does something happen to make it stop (flips a coin) I have no idea. In the case of a loop the questions are where, why and how did it start? Also can it keep continuing? With the vase it may break due to extreme (it's essentially infinity old) wear, as even the air wears things down. Let alone rough goron and human handling. Anyways, this has been a lesson from Dr. Foster (who's never been to Gloucester). Have a nice day!
Foster Davies-Smith uh I think you got the two backwards because your definition of a paradox sound like it would make more sense for that to be a loop, but I could be wrong
i love how to tokay just rob you of your stuff then you find them and they're all like "oh shit!" then give your stuff back knowing you we're alive since they ran off after link wakes up.. scratch that they're known as the trollkay
Is this the first time they play age and season at AGDQ? Either way this is really awesome, glad for these runs. I liked the Zelda II Link gets on a raft and Link's Awakening happens theory more.
If I'm not mistaken, Nintendo established that Lttp, Oracle, Awakening, Link Between the Worlds, and the NES Zelda titles are all part of the Downfall timeline. Also the order is how I said it, but I to think Seasons was the first Oracle game that took place and then Ages.
+Shukterhouse Jive My phone was being completely stupid. It kept saying that it didn't post my comments and what ended up happening was me trying to post the comment xD

BluBoulzor Really? xD I didn't mean to spam it was my phone being stupid! Kept saying that it didn't post my comment and I ended up doing multiple attempts to post, not realizing it already happen. You know what? Google+ sucks.

It was never really consistent up to this point which button the sword was mapped to. In the very first game, the sword was on A. Period. You couldn't change it. As the second game was a side-scrolling platformer, A was jump and B was sword. The third game was mapped to the SNES controller, wherein, due to its layout, Y and B were often used in place of the NES B and A, respectively (as in, for example, an NES game would have you jump with A and shoot with B, whereas its SNES counterpart would jump with B and shoot with Y). So while the sword was mapped to B in that game, it was essentially the A equivalent. And as you point out, for the GB games, each button can be mapped however you'd like. So while, with the advent of the 3D Zelda game, sword play has pretty consistently been mapped to B for the past 20 years, and I wouldn't even deny that I prefer it as such, I'd say A for the sword is perfectly fine.
During a Super Metroid run at the end you can save the Etecoons, and Dachoras during the escape sequence. During a speedrun, saving the animals loses a small amount of time. It's sort of become a meme, and a way to have a bid war to raise more money. Some want to save the frames, some want to save the animals.
links awakening is still the geraest gameboy zelda game ever...followed by the minish cap...this game comes in at a strong 3rd place - loved all of them though
this run is from 2016, not long after satoru iwata died my guess is they probably ran a donation incentive for the filename and donors named the file in honor of him
Not to be the hater asshole or anything, but aside from knowledge of the rng manipulation and optimal pathing (and some stuff you would acquire just through memorization after a while), I didn't see a level of skill with this run that I didn't surpass in my 4-5 playthroughs when I was a teenager.
Dude made so many mistakes, other than general knowledge this run seemed mediocre at best. And the disconnection between the runner and commentators was awkward
This was really tough to watch due to the music of this game. Maybe when originally playing it it was tolerable, but now doing so while trying to listen to commentary: awful.
He skipped 7th and 8th dungeons by using something we are not supposed to use, or even know, so it is considered as cheating? To me, this is not a true speedrun
This is why multiple categories exist in speedrunning. This one is not a glitchless one. Also "speedrunning" means finishing a game as fast as possible using absolutely any method, hence why there are many categories and possibilities on how to complete a game this fast.
