My heart plummeted when I got to Korok Forest (my favourite area in botw) and found this playing and all the koroks frozen in time ;-; I just wanted to see the happy little guys and get the Master Sword
Only thing I wanted more was for the inside of the deku tree to have a mini dungeon just to make the quest last longer. Not really even a puzzle dungeon either just a path that went down further leading to the gloom spawn
The fight wasn't even that bad. Flurry rush was impossible but I found the cheese is to just get almost within it's hitbox. He's swung his sword at me a few times when I was there, didn't take damage.
Possibly not. After solving the issue at Lost Woods, Koroks you find will tell you they heard 'something was wrong in the lost woods, but its all better now!' Which implies to me that koroks outside of the forest were unaware of what was happening within. No news going in or out.
the way my heart sank so deep when i got there and tried to talk to ANY of the Koroks. This and the Zora got me choked up already and i haven't even finished the game yet.
I have never felt such genuine dread in a video game. My friend hasn’t gotten to this part yet, and I’m nervous for her reaction bc she’s not great at combat but she loves koroks with a burning passion. I told her that all the koroks are happy to see Link, that they all run up to him and hug him when you first get there in TotK.
I first tried to get to the korok forest like in BOTW following the direction the wind was blowing, that weird fog didn't let me in, so I tried skydiving, didn't work, so my only option was to go in the depths and hopefully find one of those places where you can ascend to the surface, found one, ancended, saw all the koroks paralyzed and was like "wtf happened here?", talked to the deku tree, he mentioned something about his stomach, when I saw the chasm in there I said "OH SHI-"
trying to get to hestu was the reason i went to the depths for the first time (i tried everything like you did but i thought the depths were scary late game stuff so i didn't consider it/know you could come ascend out of them)
@@litapd311 you first found him to the new stable in the tabantha region, he then went to lookout landing and would stay there until you defeated the Phantom Ganon inside the Great Deku Tree
If you know the lore of the Kokiri, then the Koroks, they've..... been here before. They just thought it wasn't the era yet. This is why the Great Deku Tree passed off his curse as a stomach ache (the willing natural death routine.) as he prepares to perish. With the Koroks all fallen silent, contemplating where to go or what to do from this point. As they're already reduced to tree dolls.
At first I thought the Koroks weren’t frozen in time and were just staying silent on purpose. Like I thought you go up to talk to them and they don’t say anything to you, not because they’re frozen but because of dread. That’s way scarier tbh
Definitely. This feels like it would be one of those “haunted game” creepypastas. But instead of it just being Gloom/Ganon, it would be some ghost that you can’t kill.
The music itself sounds sick, unwell, broken, and miserable, especially at the melody that begins at 0:36. One of my first thoughts when I saw that the tree was sick was, "Oh, am I gonna have to fight a gohma?" Followed by, "OH, THIS IS NOT A GOHMA."
The sound font here too sounds tainted... corrupt... the music here is really well done... my heart broke at seeing the Deku Tree stained in pink/purple gloom...
I was completely mortified when I visited the area. I look around and interact with the koroks as they store blankly into the abyss that was the gloom. So once I went into the pit within the tree (btw at this point by I was terrified by gloom spawn) I was ready to kill anything. I wasted like 15 fairies lol
So no spoilers but- after finishing the tutorial the Korok forest was the first area I made my way to. Suffice to say I was definitely not prepared for what I found... Emotionally AND gameplay-wise (my 4-hearted no-weapon-having fairy-lacking weakass Link surely resents me for going down there)
Yeah lmao I went to forest first two but I did shrines along the way but I still wasn't ready to fight them. I did like 50 shrines and came back over prepared, only to need to do more shrines
This game has subtle Majora’s Mask vibes. Both games can be wacky at times, but then it gets real dark fast… The koroks standing there lifeless, staring into space gave me chills.
Bro when I saw the purple mist, I first tought the Deku tree upgraded the savety to protect the Korok Forest from the new enemys. I didn't expect what i found AT ALL. But it instantly brought me back to Ocarina of time.
Me too. I was like, "Either they are doing that purple dome to protect themsleves or it is really, really bad." But the closest Great Fairy coughed because of gloom, it is a hint that the forest is in peril.
@@dragonairdragon6173All of the great fairies will cough due to gloom. Even the one closest to the forest will still cough even after you've solved the issue there.
i really like how they chose not to change the composition, but the instrumentation instead - even the part at 0:40 stays happy! the other “unsolved” themes do the opposite, using the same instruments but making a different song. it’s a great way to show that the koroks aren’t troubled or upset like the other races, just completely hollow.
One thing I did before going inside the tree was just standing there and walking around the area. The song sound so beautiful to my ears even though I was frightened because the koroks were frozed in time. Spoiler (don't look if you hadn't been in the tree) I almost died because of Ganon's phantom. I used all of my food to stay alive, and I've made it. I can tell that my heart was racing I maybe made mistakes in my writing I'm not English at all, i just wanted to share
Korok Forest and Gerudo Town were the most disturbing areas for me in Tears of the Kingdom. The usually bustling and happy places were put to silence and darkness after the Upheaval
As much as I find them annoying and torture-able, they didn't deserve to be petrified like that. Worst of all is, unlike all the other races, they _literally_ can't do anything to fix it. All koroks inside the forest are stuck like trees, all koroks outside have no means to come back nor know about what's happening. It's all up to you.
The moment I saw something was wrong I got so angry, thinking Ganon was going to get the Great Deku tree killed again. Everyone hated the Koroks but I adored them so much.
Me: Gee, I want to get the Master Sword. Time to go to Korok Forest. *Gets there* Me: What....happened...here...? Those poor Koroks... The scary thing is, we aren't completely told how or what led to the curse. We're just told to check the Deku Tree's stomach
I feel like there should've been a Korok sage instead of Mineru. But this leaves me confused. Should Maca be the descendant of the sage, or Hestu? (Probably Hestu)
Gloom spawn before trying to get to Deku tree: Scary mf that had me scrambling away Me after killing me first Blue Lynels in the dept, taking the savage bow, and already killed one Gloom/Phantom on my way to reach Deku tree and seeing what Gloom did to Deku tree: Tell your master that his day are numbered.
I didnt even had the chance to hear the theme, after arriving i thought (oh shi- and Hetsu you lucky m-) and just went straight to talk to the deku tree THEN RUSH TO THE GLOOM with murderous intent
i swear this game is just a loop of oot with a sprinkle of mm. ganondorf does the exact same thing he does in oot but kneeling and then betraying the kingdom. and the deku tree having issues caused by ganondorf cursing him.
The entire Zelda series is built off references to previous games. The Master Sword getting damaged was a plot point in Wind Waker. Link walking into an ambush only to have his friends save him is from Twilight Princess. The Imprisoning War is first mentioned in Link To The Past (although as Demise's sealed form is called The Imprisoned this points to multiple Imprisoning Wars in Hyrule's history). And of course the name Rauru goes all the way back to The Adventure Of Link.
