The "more hopeful" bit is actually the Hyrule Field Main Theme from this game. Which is indeed one of the more uplifting songs in the game. Composers for Twilight Princess are Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota, and Koji Kondo for the game but it's very hard to find specifics for who did what.

This is one of THOSE Zelda tracks, the ones that every fan knows, and it helps that Twilight Princess was probably the most popular 3D Zelda prior to Breath of the Wild. When I look at the crazy popularity of games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and how many new fans they've brought to the series, I'm reminded of Twilight Princess' popularity when it came out. From the outside looking in you might think Zelda is one of those series where the fanbase loves every game and they're all super popular, but there definitely are varying degrees of popularity between games, and neither Majora's Mask nor The Wind Waker were very popular when they first released. Majora had the benefit AND misfortune of being a sequel to Ocarina of Time which was a massive leap for the series and then seen as the pinnacle of 3D gaming by many, but Wind Waker received a lot more outcry from fans upon its release. The artstyle change was disliked by many who wanted the games to be grittier and have more "realistic graphics." Twilight Princess had to follow up Wind Waker, and felt like it combined the structure of Ocarina of Time with some of the atmosphere of Majora's Mask along with taking bits of the combat systems from The Wind Waker and building upon them. I may not be the biggest Twilight Princess fan and I still think the game pretty much lives in Ocarina of Time's shadow but they did make the right call and gave people what they wanted with this game. Ironically, visually it hasn't aged nearly as well as Wind Waker, but that's because WW IS so stylized and cartoony. I would recommend Twilight Princess to newcomers as well, as it is a solid 3D Zelda experience and is a little easier to get used to than older titles. The atmosphere is quite good too, and Midna is almost universally agreed to be the best companion character the series has ever had. I'm still waiting for Nintendo to give us one that's remotely close to as good. I think Tatl from Majora's Mask is a pretty close second personally, but Midna is a lot more involved in TP's plot than Tatl was in MM. She IS the titular Twilight Princess after all, even Zelda herself takes a backseat to Midna in this game.

I'm not sure if I'd say TP was the most popular 3D before BotW - it's great and I love it, but don't you think Ocarina of Time - or for the more cult following - Majora's Mask both get a lot more reverence in the gamer discourse?
@VelvetAura
@VelvetAura Год назад
@@kawaxiv in terms of being well regarded by gamers and journalists Ocarina definitely had the edge on Twilight Princess. However I stand by the opinion that because Twilight Princess brought SO many new fans to the series at a time where gaming was just starting to become more mainstream (it was a Wii/Gamecube game after all, which had a much larger install base than the N64) that it was definitely the more popular game, at least from my experience.

A good song choice that represents the ups and downs within Twilight Princess. Its tone does have lots of parallels with Majora's Mask.

The only downside to this song, is that programmers didn't let it play during combat and had the normal battle music cut-in.

And yet still has a unique levity amongst the dark atmosphere, like going from this to Malo Mart theme goes to show how this game has such a great balance of those dark tones and silly moments to keep it from being overbearing. Definitely my favorite in the series.

"This sounds really different from anything I've heard of Zelda" For those who played the game, it was different too. Without trying to spoil it, TP's music always had a very unique atmosphere to its soundtrack that captures its somewhat dark setting. Lots of mellow, tense, and somber tones, but still quite vibrant and striking, like the colors of a sunset. But this song comes in during a sharp and sudden turn in the story's mood; It's now in the middle of the night, it's raining, and time is running out. Nothing left but sorrow and desperation. Those emotions grip you even harder when you play the game, because Midna, the character the track is named after, is someone you've grown very close to throughout the story, and she leaves a very strong impact on both your character, and you as a player. Perhaps one of the best companion characters in Zelda's franchise. You can make your own conclusions as to how and why if you didn't read all the spoilers in that video, but obviously, she's not in a good place, and the simple but sad music that plays during this part was a perfect accompaniment.

Twilight Princess came out in 2006 so quite a while ago. Many like it because it has the most dungeons that are also all not cakewalks. On the other hand it‘s games like these in the series that holds many back from the current change of direction the Zelda games are heading towards. I‘m a fan of both so I don‘t mind either direction really.

Twilight Princess is a very dark game, both in atmosphere and story. A lot of the soundtrack reflects that, and Midna's Lament is a prime example given the section it plays in. Some of my personal favorites from this game are Horse Battle (yes that's the name of the track), Blizzeta Phase 1 & 2, and the Hidden Village

I was like "Where in the game does this play?" after seeing the title of the video and then the first 2-3 notes and I was like "OH I KNOW THIS SONG!" and immediately I could picture where in the game it plays. I REALLY need to do another TP playthrough... it's been at least 4-5 years. At least 3 years too long. As for the spoilers... the text doesn't do it justice. You'd need to PLAY the game and SEE the scenery, and know the context to truly understand the music playing here and feel the full effects it gives.

Most Zelda games have a few songs that really stand out. "Dark World" from Link to the Past, "Gerudo Valley" from Ocarina of Time. But I feel like most Zelda games have soundtracks that fade into the background (Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom being the most extreme example with their minimalist atmospheric soundtracks). Twilight Princess is really the exception. It has several songs that jump out, for one reason or another. "Malo Mart," "Midna's Lament," "Hidden Village," "Kakariko is Saved," the dyanmic use of music in the boss phases when you get them vulnerable, and all sorts of other moments were points where the music really jumps out at you more than even games like Ocarina of Time, where the music was more central to the plot.

Haha, I actually knew Midna's Lament before I knew basically anything about TP-- if you liked piano covers of game music (which I really really did as a kid), EVERYONE was playing this at the time. I didn't know who Midna was but I knew for sure she was gonna be lamenting at some point.

There was a period of time I admit I got kind of burned out on feeling like I was always seeing it everywhere, so it was nice to come back to it and see it through someone else's fresh eyes again. It is a lovely song and pairs so well with what's going on while it plays.

This is a very beautiful and iconic theme, and fits the moment it plays perfectly. Unfortunately, when it does, when you're in a dire situation and you need to get somewhere a reasonable distance away quickly, it...cuts out and is interrupted by the regular annoying "danger" theme of nearby enemies. Having that happen is the most egregious immersion breaking I've ever experienced. A lot of people love TP, but to me this was about the only thing that I found effective in the game. Apart from enjoying some of the dungeons and the bosses, I found TP extremely long winded and tedious
