Pigments definitely affect the feel of the pencil. I have a pencil that is sooo dry and scratchy (a pastel purple) but the others from the bunch are buttery smooth
That’s my yellow prismacolor pencil. It’s also the only one that breaks all the time. Like I don’t even use the color yellow that much but it’s 3 inches tall. While the rest are still about the same size as when I got them 💀💀
That first doggo is my fav. Its so satisfying to see you outline the yellow in red for some reason. I was disappointed to see that the blackwing colored pencils are not erasable. I say this because the blackwing pencil has such a unique eraser on the end, I was kind of expecting the colored pencils to have that attached.
Pigment affecting the feel of the pencil is a pretty big part of the Prisma Colour Col-Erase pencils! I first used those in animation, but I use em in my regular drawings now too. Red and Dark Green were pretty soft, and I liked them for my fast and quick roughs, focusing more on the feel and flow rather than shape. Light Purple, Light Blue, and Non-Photo Blue are harder, and they were great for laying down a sketch that I could then go over in a dark colour for details. There's other Col-Erase colours, like yellow and brown, but those 5 above are the ones I like and use the most.
The breaking of the lead in Prismacolors can be due to being dropped or the quality being atrocious. They can be very off-centre and the wood casing is inconsistent. Most proper coloured pencils only use pigments and not dyes. Pigment type ('colour') can definitely impact the feel of the pencils. Or it could be binder, fillers, wax...
I inherited a set of original blackwings from my grandpa, they are amazing pencils. Super easy to write with and they feel so fancy. I keep one in my drawing set for sketching and graphite drawings.
Hey Kasey, I just wanted to say, thank you for every video you post. I've been going through it to say the least, and your videos remind me to be a bit more lighthearted, and not take everything in life so seriously. You're videos have been helping me get out of my funks for years, and you bring so much joy to this community. Stay awesome Kasey, keep doing what you love.
I love greyhounds! I had one & she was THE sweetest dog ever! She rarely barked, was extremely gentle, quiet, ran outside, very well behaved especially since we never had her professionally trained, etc. Best dog ever & it sucks how they're treated 😢
Twitch watchers just KNOW Puggie is going to go feral over this one hehe 💚 Such cute doggos. The color scheme definately makes me love the pug one, even though my opinion on the breed is also very eugh 😂
I need to remember while doing the three circle test to put yellow down *first.* I always seem to forget and put my favorite color of the day down, even knowing it's dark and will smear stuff around.
Okay, duly noted, the Golden family used to own an Italian Greyhound. I heard Borzois are like an exaggerated version of such - longer muzzles and ganglier appearance overall.
I find that I really enjoy blackwing’s erasable colored pencils but wish they offered more colors and weren’t as expensive. Posca also makes amazing colored pencils but sadly I cannot easily acquire them here in the states
You know those posts where it's like "If I say or do ______ then it means I've been abducted, and you should send help." I'm pretty sure that if Kasey draws a pug that we should send help. Need a rescue party asap.
Prismacolour pencils are wax based so you can briefly microwave them and they can reconnect broken leads to a degree or completely melt. Time and microwave strength varies
If you do make a video using the Blackwing Matte pencil, could you please experiment with a few of the erasers from your eraser comparison video to see which removes the most graphite from the paper? The supplied black eraser on the end of the Matte pencil tends to leave a remnant of graphite on the paper when I use it, and it would be interesting to see if you find another eraser that can remove practically all the graphite. No need to do anything as comprehensive as your eraser video, just say somewhere in the video which eraser worked the best at removing graphite from the Blackwing Matte pencil. If you decide to make a video on it 😉
What if they were like the color mechanical pencils. Like how it’s meant to be used as a pencil but it just has a colored graphite/lead/whatever it’s made of to it.
You never labeled which side was blackwing and which side was prismacolor in the swatching partion at the beginning of the video! Just wanted to let you know. Oh wait, I figured it out. The prismas are on the left with the short pencils haha
Hullo Kasey, For a devoted cat person you did an amazing job with these dogs! I do wonder how a dog and be anything other than dog shaped? You picked lovely color combinations too! I have plenty of color pencils and I appriciate ypur review of these pencils and while I have several Blackwing pencils, I will not be buying any of their color pencils.
Understand where you’re coming from but we’ve had two that lived to 14 and 15. And 4 pugs between family now. Just a little more care but they’re worth it -extremely playful, silly and full of personality. Not for everyone but unmatched in the doggy world!
All the drawings look very much adorable! And most of them are dog shaped, for sure. I do adore dogs, but pugs just make me a bit sad about what mankind has done to dogs. also, am I just being silly when I say that pug has the same colors as the Brazilian flag does? I just can't help but think it is a Brazilian colored not dog shaped potato.
Something experimental is happening. She's trying to use a different song for each dog, and for the Basenji she apparently landed on what @mellocello7563 called "RU-vid survey music", which I'll have to take their word on that.
