I wrote my college thesis using a title from a Buffalo Springfield song “For What It’s Worth “, and received an A-. I heard the song while in Vietnam and since that was what was Going On, it stuck.

I remember these days so well. I wanted to be a hippie in Laurel Canyon so badly, instead did it in Massachusetts !!! I absolutely loved the 60-70's so so happy I was a young person, I'd have no problem going back to that time. I buy about anything that is or has a bohemian hippie feel to it, always in search of. I was all about the music, style, clothes and the artwork of that great once in a life episode in history. In fact my own artwork reflecks that time. The US was forever changed in those 20-25 years. Thank you musicians of that time !!! ☮️🙏💜🌷🌻🌷🌈☀️

Well, as a Boston guy Massachusetts wasn't such a bad place to be then or even now. And I'm always struck by how it seems like all the greats back then knew each other. I guess the musical world was much smaller then than it is today.

i had spent some time in Laurel Canyon. Very interesting. But not what I expected. I missed Woodstock, and Monterey Pop. I had just got home from Vietnam in 1970. I was tired of the bullshit. I was with the 101st Airborne Infantry. I have seen it all. But Laurel Canyon was kind of a relief. Like a break from reality. I took up riding dirt bikes across the Great Mohave desert . i found peace with that endeavor. So long my friends. No regrets. Kevin

@@VividFilmProductions The 101st is a forward fighting infantry force but not "elite". In the 60's, especially early 60's when Jimi was in the Army, he would've been placed in an infantry unit since he didn't have any special training (and didn't want to serve in the 1st place). It is legendary; a time & vibe that will never be repeated on this level. Rare air: you walk or drive around there now & it's still haunting. The smell of eucalyptus remains, but it's all Hollyweird psychos with too much money & too little time to be real. As one time Canyon chiller & "old man" @ age 24 Neil Young once um, chillingly sang; In a matter of time There'll be a friend of mine Gonna come to the coast You're gonna see him up close For a minute or two While the ground cracks under you By the look in your eyes You'd think that it was a surprise But you seem to forget Something somebody said About the bubbles in the sea And an ocean full of trees And you now, LA Uptight city in the smog, city in the smog Don't you wish that you could be here too? Don't you wish that you could be here too? Don't you wish that you could be here too? Well, it's hard to believe So you get up to leave And you laugh at the door That you heard it all before Oh, it's so good to know That it's all just a show for you When the suppers are planned And the freeways are crammed And the mountains erupt And the valley is sucked Into cracks in the earth Will I finally be heard by you? LA Uptight city in the smog, city in the smog Don't you wish that you could be here too? Don't you wish that you could be here too? Don't you wish that you could be here too? Nope, no I don't. Heard ya loud & clear. It's all a farce that'll very soon be completely underwater & unlivable.

Absolutely untrue. It was written about the LA County Sheriff's Dept. attack on completely peaceful demonstrators. It took place at the intersection of Crescent Heights and Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood CA. in November 1966. I was there and was briefly interviewed by Peter Bergman (later of The Firesign Theater), for his show Radio Free Oz on KPFK, about what was happening. I was later able to discuss the Sheriff's Riot and his writing of it with Steven Stills, himself, after a concert the Buffalo Springfield gave at Cal State LA. He was also there at the time and that's what inspired the song.
