I feel your pain. Have you ever needed that one brick which you used in another creation which you kept. It felt so bad when I took apart an old set for a new one.
I like how the narrator goes from talking about Lego and its history like an outsider, then slowly hints about him being part of the Lego family get more frequent until he's like "My grandfather"
This video is 10 years old now. I saw it like a thousand times and i still think it's awesome. Happy 90th anniversary, and thanks for defining my childhood.
rest in peace Ole Kirk Christiansen. I am 40 and I still buying Legos for myself. Every year I buy one set for my son and another set for myself and we sit and build them. Love Legos.
11 years later an im still watching this, i loved this as a kid and still love it. personally its better than some animations out there now, and im so glad ole started making toys made up so much of my childhood
It can get better and your wife is now your husband and you are his wife and people without houses have homes now and people with homes don't have houses
I remember watching this video as a kid, I still find the story to be really interesting and if I really wanted to I could sit down and watch it a couple more times
I am 27 I’ve been playing with Legos literally my entire life so it was really good to see where it all came from thank you for putting this out and I appreciate the work of olay and his family for decades of entertainment
Wow Lego was first created as a toy but now it has reached unimaginable heights. Legos can now be used to make prosthetic arms/legs, drivable car, Bridge that is almost half the height of statue of liberty and robotic engineers use legos for their own creations. Ole K. and his future generations are genius.
What an amazing & inspiring story so beautifully told & illustrated. Made me think of my late father who was a master craftsman. He was a school teacher who taught woodworking & technical drawing amongst other subjects. His workshop was a shed at the bottom of the garden where he spent most evenings making furniture etc. When he retired he spent a lot of his time handcrafting wooden toys for children at a nearby hospital/home for disabled children. The last thing he did was set off on his bicycle to buy linseed oil to finish some toys he was working on. He collapsed & never came out of hospital. He was 81. I was his oldest daughter & he'd hoped for a son. My childhood toys were not dolls but meccano (erector sets) & other building sets with tiny bricks, mortar & trowels that u could build miniature houses with. I learned a lot from him. Later in life I was able to do carpentry, tiling, plumbing etc. Thanks for posting this lovely video.
What an amazing origin story of how the LEGO company started, it does remind me of my childhood when I watched this animation video and then started taking interest in Legos.
Godtfred found a way to make the Lego bricks stay together, but didn't find a way to NOT make them hurt when you step on them. Ah yes, quality indeed 👌
"We made 3000 crowns this year" "Ok let's spend ALL of our money on a machine so the quality improves but we aren't eating for the next 3 weeks" "Good Idea Dad"
this story makes me so sad. my brother would make stop motions with legos and he would work on them for hours just editing them and getting the legos to move just right. he was only ten or eleven, and he was so good at them. i remember i voiced one of the characters in his very first stop motion. but then he lost his phone this year, and i think all the videos he made are gone :( it breaks my heart. i hope someday he finds them
I was never interested in Lego until a week ago where my grandma bought me a set. I did struggle but I have to admit it was pretty fun connecting the bricks together
This was seriously one of the best little videos that I've ever seen! I had no idea of the story! My 2 sons (now 34 & 36) lived for Legos even up into their 20's! They still have most of them. This story brought tears and a smile that lasted throughout the entire video! I am so glad that I came across it. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic story!❤🙏💫
I watched this video for a school research i decided to do and really I couldn´t help but cry in tears of joy for all the happines this company and it´s legacy has brought to my life.
Did you mention that in 1999-2000 Lego almost went out of business, but their revolutionary Bionicle product line saved the company and was a huge success? Bionicle was my favorite Lego line, such a shame they ended it
Our children grew up with Lego I still have many of the original block sets we bought 40 years or more so Now my grandchildren are building with Lego helped by their dads who still love Lego The best toy ever !
14:01 The map in the background is inaccurate, it is a modern world map and not the actual one at the time. You can clearly see Kazakhstan appears on the map although it gained independence in 1991 which is obviously not the time this scene is placed in.
I never had Lego growing up nor did my brother. But seeing this heartwarming story of Lego makes me so happy that other kids had them and how perseverance pays off letting nothing stop you from accomplishing. Hard times, fire, how to improve on something. The history of this toy is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
the other suns didn’t want to work for the company and indtead went their own paths to now in 2020 make all their money from the buisness without doing a thing.
Ok though, I felt bad for that worker, u know the last one who stayed firm until the very end being the one to close down, to be the one rehired is awesome
Now it’s 90 years old. Also, is it just me or did anyone else expect Ole to pull Godtfred out of school to have him work full time? (Kind of surprised that he didn’t, though it’s good that the man cared for his son’s education as much as he did for the business.) Also, at 15:10, did anyone else see a set based around a cheeky little blue tank engine in the background?
is this a true story and if it is true they may have brought a joy to the world but they also brought in a curse stepping on a Lego brick with bare feet
“What should I name my company?” *several name suggestions appear in the background* “If only there was a sign.” *MORE SUGGESTIONS APPEAR AND HE STILL DOESNT NOTICE*
The LL928 Galaxy Explorer Spaceship set was the first set my Mom bought for me in 1979. I loved the 70s and 80s Space Lego. Thanks Mom, I miss you. 1944-2016
My son has autism. All he loved to do was put his men together. He has probably 5000 maybe? Now he tries as hard as he can to do the sets. Even with his thick glasses, still tries and succeeds. Legos are my sons best friend. Plus his friends at school who adore his little men. ❤️
