What a bizarre commentary: a glancing reference to the performance, which were absolutely superb and the major contribution to practically everything the reviewers praised: the epic quality of the play, the multiple and diverse characters, the story-telling. And of course the complaint that there was no ‘moral reckoning’…..American Puritanism dies hard.

Great commentary

There's no pleasing critics! I remember a similar masterpiece of theatre, 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun', and the very same complaint was made : why was there no moral commentary while the rivetting action was being played out. Silly, silly, silly.
