I hail from Texas. But New Mexico is in my heart. Since I was a child of three I was fishing the river by our cabin. I have been through most of the state and recognize many places that you shot. My great-grandfather was a doctor Cimarron in the early 1900’s. Then later in Nara Visa where he had a drug store with a fountain and got more money than livestock for his services. I met him once but I cannot remember it. My roots run deep and my experiences roll through my mind. Loved the vintage signs. Thanks for the adventure.

I'm sure since your last visit it has changed a lot..I live in the East Mountains, & if I have to go into the City I do what I have to do & get out of dodge..It's gotten so dangerous, there's been a couple of mall shootings so much hate . One crazy lady trying to run over a couple, then she jumped out of her car, telling them to go back to their Country 'Mexico" .... '''That'' is mostly what's it'a about..people see ''skin'' color & it sets them off..This is what it is mostly about with these rude nasty people. To Them GROW UP!! children live what they learn..Is this what your teaching them?

My Papa’s family is from White Oaks and Carizozo, the Leslies and the Lacies, I remember all of our family reunions were held at a little school house where they old timers all attended. I love how my family documented everything that happened to them when they first settled there, my great grandpa and his brothers ran cattle for a time with Billy the Kid. My families stories are now in the Library of Congress, and I have the honor of listening to my 94 year old Papa’s family stories told by him.

Thanks from this New Mexican. VERY interesting spots. I work for a professional land surveyor/engineer and I’ve seen this before. So damn interesting. The Chappell Spade Ranch survey in San Miguel county was both an sob and the damned coolest thing I’ve ever experienced. It was wilderness before the crew got there (never surveyed). Nothing like wild cattle chasing you, rattlesnakes everywhere and flies flying up your nose because it was cooler there. And I realized why western shirts were long sleeved. Protect you from the scorching sun in those higher elevations. New Mexican is truly the Land of Enchantment. My part of the state (eastern plains) is a little flat. But the landscape is beautiful. And those sunsets! And of course...Hatch Green Chile. Hmmm...Hatch. The Chile Capitol of The World

I am from Tennessee but both my parents are from New Mexico. I remember in the mid 2000s as a little kid how we would visit my grandparents there. The nostalgia comes flowing back when I think about it. The memory that gives me the most nostalgia was my bedroom in that house. The yellow walls. The old photos of when my dad was a kid. The bedsheets and pillows that were draped with wild west and Native America styled patterns and the blanket on the floor where my grandparent's dog Duke used to sleep. Man this brings a tear to my eye.

Lots of empty space up north. Further south it's more condensed, hilly and even mountainous to the west. Silver City is glorious! As is Cloudcroft. We live in Truth or Consequences. South central New Mexico. Deming is a quaint little town of much color and charm. Las Cruses is fast becoming a virtual suburb of El Paso, Texas.

If you do take such a road trip make sure you have a good car or van that is very new or have it worked on by a mechanic you can trust. You don't want to have it break down in the middle of nowhere.

@TheDailyWoo The very last shot of the Moonrise has special meaning for New Mexico. Ansel Adams took the famous "Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico" photograph in 1941 near the tiny township of Hernandez just North of Espanola along US highway 84. New Mexico has arguably the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the whole world and along with that moonrises and moonsets. Truly the Land of Enchantment!!!

Yes. I lived in western NM (Zuni) and NE AZ (Navajo country in the 80's. Driving, I adapted to only listening to cassettes (then 1980's). Nothing on car radio but one Country station. On FM, in my house, with a tall antenna pole outside, I could sometimes get radio from Flagstaff, 150 miles away. Not much else, except a Country station. 1 TV station over air, KOB, NBC Albuquerque.
