Steven Edgington really is a rewarding interviewer to listen too - he’s so far ahead of most of the journalists that seem to be around at the moment. Good searching questions without the confrontational theatrics of many of his peers.

The French are not very woke at all. They are known as "francks" for a reason. Also, they LOVE logically reasoned debates. So the idea of simply having to accept some crazy think and not criticize it is crazy. Over 80% want massive changes in immigration. Illegal migrqnts sleep on the streets. There would probably be yet another French revolution if they put the invaders in expensive Parisian hotels. The worst woke is in the Anglosphere, and most want to stop it in its tracks. Leftists in FR are not particularly into mouthing crap about French and France being so horrible. So women I met who would be woke here are basically normal liberals. Even Macron doesn't want le wokeisme.

On the concluding question; Atheism is a religion as much as any other. It is an *absolute* belief in no possible higher power or architect. One key reason this is religious is because we still do not know how and why the universe was created. Most Atheists point to the "big bang theory," which is a theory that fails to explain what existed *before* the "big bang," or what caused it. Many ancient texts describe a similar or the same theory, often referring to this phenomena as "the divine breath of God," which is to imply God existed prior to the "big bang," which is just as "scientific" as Atheists' idea that *nothing* existed prior. There is *no* evidence in either direction. Any absolutist mindset with regard to the existence of a prior entity to the "big bang" is religious.

Agree. The geniuses who are non-believers are agnostic, not atheists. It's rea, reall hard to prove a negative. These self ID atheists aren't the brightest.

Fascinating interview, nothing to do with Trump (thank goodness) and actually about the origins of conservatism and relationship with religion. But what is this invention of a new word "conservativism"? Yoram's book is called "Conservatism - a Rediscovery". Is this meant to imply that the UK's Conservative Party represents conservatism (when in fact it doesn't)? Still, this is a really interesting podcast series and thoroughly recommended.

Many points well made albeit confusing at times. It does have the feel of advocating conservatism for the sake of well organized public and private life. Organized to the extent that young people are brought into the fold and educated the virtues of current and historical significance with an eye towards moral and ethical efficacy. There are good reasons to revisit formal conservatism not just for the upsides but for it's many downsides as well. If this book is intended to justify Trumpism as the description suggests, it doesn't fly, quite in spite of conservative ideal.
@baigandinel7956
@baigandinel7956 11 месяцев назад
If there even is a such doctrine as "Trumpism," that is not conservatism, although it has conservative elements. Trump didn't invent anything in terms of substance. I am not sure the book even mentions him. What it offers is rather different, although there may be some incidental overlap, none of which came from the mind of Trump.

Fascinating...!!! Now if someone could explain how it is that some people think they know what's best for others? Where does that sense of arrogance & entitlement come from? On the other hand, it would be great if someone could really explain where do rights come from? Are we really born with any rights? Not everyone believes in an implausible sky god, and it's not very convincing response either. Why would a pretend sky god give lesser beings any rights?
@steveparker8065
@steveparker8065 Год назад
Asside from the invisible magical deity in the sky and their myriad representatives who force their dogma on the rest of us. Everyone is born with equal rights and equal status until the system kicks in and determines their rights by age, geographical location, wealth and power. The struggle then begins for those on the lower rungs of the hierarchical ladder to keep the basic rights their ancestors fought for. For instance in the UK many groups such as the Rebecca Rioters, Tolpuddle Martyrs, Chartists, Scotch Cattle, Wat Tyler and the peasant's revolt, suffragettes and the Anti-Slavery Society fought and died to achieve the rights we now have. While the Government are trying to remove those rights as they get in the way of profits and control.
