..yeah Neil Peart was the only drummer that was elastic enough to approach Bonham's power- drumming... and their kits were both bewildering with all the different types and uses of percussion instruments...
damn, can there just be one video where someone doesn't drag NP into it. One was a funky, powerful instinctive player with natural groove and swagger, the other was a robotic technician with 6 million drums....and a xylophone.
Rip John Bonham and no disregard to his genius but there are several in the same league - Moon, Paice, Baker, Peart but his friend, Ringo, is inimitable in every sense of the word.
Neil was fukin awedome as well what talented drummers they both were great time to be alive and be able to admire them for that talent alot of great memories
The man was engine behind the greatest band. Without Bonzo Zeppelin would never have made history. They knew he was a very integral part of Led Zeppelin's success. Imagine if he was still living?
John Bonham was great! He was my favorite drummer. Until Neil Peart arrived, Neil had percussion invented to his style of playing. So I guess you can say THEY WERE EQUALS, no one could top them both.
He’s definitely the greatest rock drummer of all time. As far as overall greatest drummers from all the drummers of all genres, i gotta give it to Buddy Rich. To this day, no one comes close.
Many gr8 drummers but only one Thunder God...John Bonham. His style & play was rejected at first only to become the most influential drummer...rock on👍
John Botham has inspired a lot of great drummers today hands down when you talk to Great dramas late 70s early 80s 90s and excetera you never hear them saying Neil Peart you always hear them say John Bonham. If you want more on the technical side then I would say Neil Peart
Hands down JB was and still the greatest drummer ever!!!! Zeppelin was ahead their time. It was perfection all four coming together. The music gods brought them together, deeming them the greatest band of all time. Not an opinion, a fact!!!
Hmm.. I think I'm the best. In my town lol. John was awesome because he was a pocket drummer. Laying back and letting the snare and bass drum carry the song at a medium/slow tempo is not something every drummer can do, and it sounds incredible.
You may be right. I don't know, myself. I keep looking back and forth, to Neil Peart to Bonzo and so on. Not being able to answer to whom the bell rings doesn't diminish my appreciation for both, in different ways. Bonham, I believe it is safe to say was the most amazing that he pulled it off no matter how f$#@&$ up he was. Neil Peart was amazing to watch live for one because he was a technical wonder. Those three were the tightest band around.
Some of my favorite drummers, Mike Portnoy, Chris Pennie, Gene Hoglan, Travis Barker, Tommy Lee, Cody Grady, Ken Schalk, Joey Jordison, and Erik Sandin.
I love Bonzo but just watch 1981 Rush Exit Stage Left and see if that doesn't change your mind who the best drummer is...Neil Peart is more creative and more technical but Bonzo is a perfect feel drummer and yes an awesome heavy drummer and in my humble opinion and after watching both drummers for over 40 years Neil Peart wins the race ever so slightly.....cheers.
Bonzo actually kicked his heroin addiction before he passed ,but he could outdrink most😅man could he hit hard ,one time a producer said he hit to hard to ever be any good 😅 man was that guy so wrong that was his signature man,long live the spirit of bonzo.
So much talent went to waste on addiction as they call it. The body is the temple of God and we have a soul that we’ve been entrusted with,with a free will to do what we want to do with it. Had he made better decisions and fell in love with the god who created him he would have lasted longer. Always count your blessings and give thanks brothers and sisters. ❤
There’s quite a few names mentioned in the comments that are fantastic drummers: Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, and many others. I am going to choose John Henry Bonham. No other drummer has drum sizes that are associated with him like Bonham does. The big 26” kick drum with no hole in the front head, and one rack tom (13-14-15 have all been used) and 2 floor toms (one 16” and one 18”) have become sizes associated with Bonham. For that reason, as well as his contributions to Led Zeppelin’s recordings, I select Bonham as Rock’s number one drummer.
John Henry Bonham was the greatest rock drummer of all time in my opinion. There probably isn’t a modern day drummer including myself That he has t influenced.
By most drumming polls John was in the top 3 of all times. And depending on your taste in drummer's, number 1 could go to John, Keith Moon, or Neil Peart. Personally, I was a fan of all 3 for various reasons. 🥁😎☮️🥁
It is important to know, that John broke thru, for us, thinkin’ about the first 12 sec., when I heard it. So ,hear me , nah. A good example of a good example, musically, does impress, us all, and there’s a deep story, his son and ‘rockstory’ can tell. For me, he contained the best qualities of his ability, always, yet was accompanying, and he could fully hold 3- dimensions of rhythm, on a drum kit , that was distinct. He studied jazz drummers, as did we. John Paul Jones, was ‘cia’. And those 2 , were it , and I’m a guitar player.
Great! I'd disagree with only one thing.. "with every album they got better and better". No way! Meaning - Their 1969 debut album was a powerhouse 'league of it's own' music classic, on par with every subsequent album Zep. put out over the coming years... Great short Vid. though. RoCK!
