If you noticed, we aren't even shown exactly when 22 got her pass. She just suddenly had it. And I think that's a lovely detail.

Exactly, if you get lost in your spark and forget about the other things you should not take for granted then your spark will begin to fade as we saw with Joe. When he was in the zone in the beginning we see he obviously loved the music and that’s mostly what he cared about, but what made his life great before the final show was that he was having a reason to live, he was helping others out but chasing his dream right before he died. He was struggling but still had that love for music in him to keep him alive and have a soul purpose. He began to realize he already fulfilled his soul purpose at the end when he was looking back on his life. Helping his students, loving his family, and having the opportunity to eat a bagel and see leaves on the ground. He finally got what he wanted and realized 22 deserved the earth pass more because she was actually living and not just focusing on joes spark. Even though she had the brain of Joe, she still didn’t take the most basic things he loves for granted. He left his impact on the world and got to enjoy the spark that made him happy, In his second life he got the opportunity to be grateful for what he wasn’t in the beginning and now his spark will excite him, but he won’t make it his soul purpose to live.

@@Lowart Thank you so much for this video. It may not be a blood transfusion, but it's videos like this that have been keeping me sane in lockdown. When I saw Soul, I knew that it was powerful and profound, but didn't fully register how empowering the message was until I saw your video. Even if I can't fully articulate how much your video resonated with me, I must thank you for making my day. I just came from Schaffrillas' Ratatouille review and a line that stood out was when he talked about wanting to make things; to add to this world. Art will outlive us, will continue to change lives long after it is made. I'm really grateful for having seen this today. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Also worth noting is that Joe wouldn't have gotten the gig in the first place if it weren't for Curley recommending him. In other words, the little things are what made his dream come true.

This movie honestly hit home. I used to be suicidal and almost ended my life on multiple occasions. I had a massive fear of becoming a failure and never accomplishing anything in life. Whether it was because I got a bad grade for something I studied hard for or snapped and hurt someone. Not helped by having nagging, controlling parents who always criticize me for the smallest of things. And expect me to still live at home with them, get married soon after I'm done with college, and no career. Over the years I realized how ending my life would cause more harm than good, because I realized that there are so many more wonders and amazing things in life that most people take for granted. Whether it be going hiking and experiencing nature's beauty, eating delicious foods, listening to music, reading books, having pets, falling in love, etc. These may not seem all that amazing, but in reality they're part of what makes life worth living and experiencing. I have a dream of being a cartoonist/animator, and I work hard and practice every day to achieve that goal. Death is what gives life meaning, so I have to spend every moment of my life to make that dream a reality.

As a musician with the hope of one day having it be my career, this movie spoke to me on a personal level. Sure, reaching that goal in my life where I’m composing for large projects would be incredible. However, I can’t let that stop me from enjoying the little moments in my life, from feeling the moment to moment pleasures of making and writing music as well as just life in general. I teach piano lessons to about a half dozen children, and it was almost a dozen before the pandemic. Watching Joe help a kid nurture their talent almost brought me to tears because teachers have helped me not quit, and I’ve done the same thing to my students. The scene in the beginning where he gets into “the zone” perfectly visualized a feeling a million words can’t describe. I can’t begin to describe how special this movie is to me, it really feels almost made for me specifically.

I'm 16 years old and playing the piano is one of the things i love the most, I play it many hours everyday and I would love so much to do that for living. But Im not that good yet (2-3 years of playing it), and I dont rly now what to do. I want to study music so much, but im afraid of doing it and not being able to get a proper job or a good life. I always thought that I would be an engineer like others in my family, but music is what i truly love to do, so im rly confused. (sry about the bad english, it is not my first language )

For me, the best way you can make your passion become "the meaning of your existence" is when you decide to do it...just for the fun of it. What I mean is...Joe thought playing that one gig would set him on a path to superstardom (or something like that.) But after the gig is over and done...he feels empty. If you do something just for the sake of wanting to be famous or goal-driven, your life will feel hollow. But if you indulge in your passion because it's fun and use other life experiences to help fuel that passion, THAT'S when your life has purpose. I myself have a passion/spark for writing but I don't do it for the fame or notoriety, I write because it's fun and my stories tend to inspire people (in some small ways)

im surprised nobody picks up the connections to Buddhism, and the possibility that 22 is Joe before he was born. everything I'm the movie, including the actions of the Jerrys, and Joe's ability to use 22s pass to return to his own body... it almost seems like it could be a journey within himself to find his inner child again, to learn to love the world again. it's an answer to the feeling of mundanity one getS when you do something not for love, but for the outcome. I would like to add that for anybody but Joe, he's just kinda having a midlife crisis

This movie and Finding Dory both really hit close to home for me. When I was young, I always thought my “spark” was something to do with art and that one day I’d be super famous and become an animated movie director or a famous artist or something and that everything in my life would build up to being successful and having a family and a great life.. but mostly just living out a successful life with my passions, pretty much like Joe’s perspective.. And then my ADHD, Autism and other mental health issues got worse and worse as life went on, I “missed out” on many things in life, I was never able to “catch up” to everyone in life, it all seemed too hard and because I was trying to hide from the world and many times; thought I wasn’t good enough for it. I’ve always felt like a failure no matter how hard I tried and how much I pushed myself. My flawed brain always got in the way, no matter what I did. I couldn’t live like this and many times I was contemplating ending it all because of how worthless I felt as unsuccessful, permanently exhausted person. I am still struggling to stay afloat and time is running out where I need to learn how to be independent, but I know there is some hope and the comfort of not needing to be super successful in life to be happy and content. Now all I really want to do is work on my mental health, be with the people I love, do my art more as a hobby than a milestone for a huge successful career and just take things at a comfortable pace.

Creativity is as imperative as air, food, and water. Art of any kind requires sacrifice, and that is the hard part, but one has to do it, or there is no achievement, no growth. People do matter in one's life, but people who matter don't always support the artist. Most people think art is like a hobby. It's not; it's a lifestyle with huge commitments. An artist doesn't have to be cruel or egotistical, but they have to be dedicated. Or else they won't be able to create.

I've seen this film twice. And I to be honest I don't think this film is very personal to me. Inside out is the pixar film that is very personal to me. But I still think soul is a better film. For me it's a very different pixar film from all the others. It's more adult but still a family oriented movie. I think my favourite part of the film is the beginning becuase theres so many different art styles. I think the realistic grimmy new york is a nice example to show you how beautiful the you seminar is with all the purples and blues and pinks it looks so nice. But I adore the part when Joe is black and white and he's falling through the great beyond to the you seminar. I love it. I think I like it more the second time than the first and I think it's the best pixar film since coco. 9/10

The lesson this movie gives is a heartfelt and crucial one. So many people (including me to a certain point) are obsessed and stuck with what they 'could- or could've had or -been or -done' until they stop to consider what they do have and what they've experienced up to this point. It changes one's perspective drastically and grounds you to the present, to actually 'live'.

This analysis feekked me UPPPPP, in the best way of course. So beautiful, so thoughtful. I am so grateful for this humanly compassionate perspective of this movie. The focus turning to 22 was what most video analysis of this movie was missing. It was not just about Joe, but the little things that 22 was needing. Thus, reminding ALL of us that what 22 needed, is what we tend to skip over. Such an important perspective. How many of us are needing what 22 needed, but living in a society that tries to make us forget it?

Finding this analysis is timely. I've been so focused on making my side hustle my full time job that I have limited my focus on other things. Your impact with this can't be measured with your resume. Thank you 🙏🏾

Great analysis for another Pixar masterpiece, definitely on my top 5 from the studio with Wall-E, Inside Out, Coco and the Toy Story Saga... Thanx!!!

Wow. Seriously wow. This was an expertly done explanation of the movie. I watched this movie and most of it I didn't get. Not saying that I didn't understand the meaning, they tell you that in the end, after all it is a children's movie. But all of the small parts going up to it and all of the little meanings and character decisions, they all meant so much more than I originally thought.
@Lalo3g1
@Lalo3g1 2 года назад
Saying it's just a children's movie makes it sound like you're demoting the film as it can't possibly be more complex for the simple fact that it's in animated form and from Disney. That in itself is a poor explanation of the movie. Anyway, they don't explain everything to you or treat the audience like a child. That's why you didn't get it all.

Just before I watched this video I was with my coworker before lunch break. We’re drone operators and we were just killing time walking outside looking for interesting rocks. After having these ideals refreshed in my mind, I hold that little moment a bit closer to my heart.

This movie really hits hard for me. As someone who once wanted to be both a professional musician, as well as a teacher, this message really stuck with me. I ended up quitting those dreams in pursuit of a more stable high paying career as an accountant (Why Terry is absolutely one of my favorite characters lol) in order to provide more for my family. Seeing Dez say that he was born to be a veterinarian but became a barber because he wanted to support his family more really resonated with me. Especially because he said that even though he didn’t get to pursue his dreams, he found something he was passionate about and happy doing. I always worry that I’m going to regret wasting my time being in a boring office job later down in life, but this movie taught me that as long as I appreciate the little things in life and focus on what makes me happy, it doesn’t matter what I do in that time.

@@Lowart I am a teacher and I related very hard to that aspect of the film. You touched on some very good points there. You can forget day to day, with the crush of everything, how memorable and crucial a moment can be to a learner. I was broken by the education system in my country, and i saw first hand how we educate and how the system can crush the spirit, like 22, when they dont, wont, or cant conform to some weird ideal of what a learner should look like. We are all valuable and unique, I wish teachers could actually be funded to teach to that, rather than try and push circles through square pegs.

I had your video on my to watch list, now that I watched the movie finally I returned to your analysis - which is greatly articulated. You paid attention to the small details, just like 22 does. :D What I found super interesting about the movie was its portrayal of the thin line between passion and obsession. Even before the movie I was wondering about these differences and now the movie examined exactly those themes. As far as I see it, passion was >enriching< the characters lifes - as people say, the zone state is as state where life is experienced more intensive - literally more vivid, it adds magic to what otherwise could be perceived as mundane life. But at some point this can turn into obsession and it's hard to tell when that transition occurs. Obsession, while having similiar roots, does the contrary ironically - eat away at you, limiting yourself and making you miss out on so many potential enriching things.

Great video. A truly amazing movie. I don't know how I haven't watched it before, I guess the trailers didn't really caught my attention when it first came out, but now it's my favourite Pixar film. You feel so much better after watching it. After all, what's the point of surviving if you don't see the beauty of regular old living?
