EPISODE 54.
In this episode we follow the life of a single Futtock, from being marked on a template to being installed as a finished frame. Frame-raising 2.0 is going well, with more than half of the last section of Frames installed already! In other news, Cecca finds out that Janice is actually a boy…

Just a joy to observe from Arizona. No fake drama, no personal conflict, just nice people coming together under the hand of a leader to achieve a goal; an ambitious goal. Wonderful. Leaders with this skill, knowledge, organizational ability and HUMILITY are uncommon. We are lucky to see him in action.

Leo, when you started, back in episodes 1-10, did you know from experience that this project would require and involve the organizing, care and feeding of such a large team of volunteers. I find everything about this project, from the bird to the kitchen; from the chickens to the smiles, a wonderful, positive affirmation of what young people are capable of. Well done.

Funny, I found myself wondering the same thing as I watched this video - did he ever imagine when he started his journey more or less solo, that he'd have a team of helpers... and I'd be curious to know how his vision has altered/enhanced as teams of helpers/amazing tools like the ship band saw has made high quality detail more attainable. I also found myself imagining wood boat manufacturing in the past - did they have this level of detail/wood selectivity? And of course how the did this in the past without all the benefits of modern machinery, etc.
@mikeking7038
@mikeking7038 4 года назад
@@ChrisBeardsley in the past they just had 50 guys working at 50 cents and hour with a meal thrown in. 50 guys working 8 hour days for a year its not hard to imagine that could get by without modern machinery.

@@mikeking7038 Not even $0.50/hr. More like $0.16 - $0.19/hr for a union timber man in the yards in England in 1910 when this old ship was built.

Fantastic stuff. If you ever need massive live oak timbers, contact us at the Texas Urban Sawmill. We get some of the biggest live oaks found across the world. Texas is full of them and we save 200+ year old trees especially after large storms.

One of the best things about this is Leo's ability to meet every challenge thrown at him. Pople star projects and of course things go worn and they give up or leave them to rot. I know a number of guys with restoration cars in their garage sitting there forever. Without the internet and being able to get volunteers and support though I honestly wonder what would have happened? But you have managed to find a way through so I believe you would have found a way, but probably would have had to wrap in for a year and go and make money or something. Anyway, it's great to see you meet every new challenge and meet them so intelligently and well.

For those of us that never will get close enough to touch Tally Ho, these video's really make the craftmanship that goes into the build "understandable". Your doing a great job and the ship is showing the love that is being brought to her rebuild. Thanks for making her history come back to life.

Well, after watching the previous 53 episodes more or less nonstop I've finally caught up with the rest of you! It's been a fascinating journey so far watching a tree become a flitch which in turn becomes a futtock and finally full frame. The boat is already, a thing of beauty. Hats off to Leo and the shipyard crew.

I have watched every one of this series and its addictive watching this slow process. I really like that you get to see that from the exterior it seems that nothing is really changing. But, when you see shots of the interior its like a bright and fresh new backbone and rib cage throughout her bowels. Theyre like boat surgeons! Rebuilding a 100+ year old beast!

There are a number of old wooden boats around where I live and I often see some effort made to rebuild them and then it stops and the boats often have been setting for years between work efforts. That is why I wondered if you had any idea of the work involved in re-building a wooden ship when you started. Now that I have been watching your incredible efforts with Tally HO I can see that you knew exactly what was involved and I did not have any real idea of what it takes to make a wooden ship new. This has been a real lesson on what it takes and you and your crew definitely have the "Right Stuff."
