Oh man. Ripping fabric is *so satisfying*. And I have nothing but respect for people able to run their own businesses. The level of focus and planning and, well, business involved is truly daunting, so kudos to you for managing it all so gracefully.
I found your channel about a year and a half ago. Never commented before but I wanted to let you know, I never miss an upload. I find your videos beautiful and fascinating. This was a great view into all the time an effort you put into your art and creations. You could tell from previous videos that you love what you do. Thank you so much for all that you share and educating RU-vid about historical fashion. ❤️
Wow. Even caroline Bingley would be impressed by how accomplished you are. As a volunteer at a historical society I've met a fair number of historical reenactors and seamstresses. If I'm honest they all kind of terrify my clocked stockings off by the range of their accomplishments - none more so than you. Now when I say terrify, I mean that in the sense of awe and respect. I have an insane amount of admiration and appreciation for you and all your hard work. Your dress up videos alone have been invaluable sources of reference to me as someone with a passion for historical clothing (though my passion is no where near as practical as it could be - I can't even sew) but watching your work has made me consider taking the plunge and getting some sewing lessons. All I can say is keep up the fantastic work.
Such a wonderful video! Many of us, I am sure, have wondered about your work life. I cannot fathom the skills you possess when I watch you sew braid so quickly and easily. I hope that you will continue these videos! I am mesmerized!
You’re an amazing woman. I really enjoyed this video. A lot of times people judge and don’t understand the workload or the passion involved in what we do. I enjoy all your videos but this one was extra special. Ty for allowing us a look into your life.
Wow!!! I have the highest respect for you! To be honest, I did not expect this. The costume makers I got to know all have some (sometimes very different) daytime job to fill their fridge and pay the rent while making historical fashion or corsets, doing reenactment and teaching the odd workshop in their „free“ time, usually from home. But I am really happy for you that you managed to turn your passion into a fulltime job, and judging from what I see in all your videos, you’re amazing at it. But somehow I still do wonder how your timetable works, so you can accomplish everything you do within generic 24 hour days. (Or do you have a magickal device which creates 36 hour days? If you do, please send me the supplier’s address, I really need one of those, too.) Anyway, I hope your love for historical fashion will stay fresh and nice and toasty, and I wish you success in everything you do, happy customers, but also beautiful moments of peace and quiet. Oh, and please don’t forget to cuddle Merlin from me. He‘s lovely!
I found your website by accident, but absolutely love it! I do historical sewing, but just for me. I'm also a history teacher, and am using your videos to give my students a better idea of what real life was like for people in the past. Thank you!
What a busy woman! I can’t believe you do all that. It’s so amazing. Love your work! I want to learn how to make my own corsets. Hopefully I get as good as you
That white (assume) wool coat with the fur trim is divine. I had shivers up my spine when I heard the tell tale sound of snow squeaking that only happens when it is below 0*F - during the twirling in the snow. Brrrrrrrrr
I just discovered your videos yesterday and can't seem to stop watching them. Good God woman, however do you do it all???????!!! Sewing, teaching, re-enacting, riding, and everything else, I'm tired just watching you. But I LOVE your work, it's fascinating! Your videos are so well done. They're brilliant, they offer such much information, and they don't d-r-r-a-a-a-a-g and become boring because they're not too "talkie" - you are a genius. I've been sewing for over 60 years and realize I can still learn from you. Wherever did you get your training? I'm going to have to get your book even if I never make an historic outfit, it will be well worth reading.
Thank you! I am self taught:-)) well, my mother and grandma tough me the first stitches, and doing an MA in literature helped in research later, but most of the pattern cutting, sewing, historical bacground, business skills etc - just learning for myself, mostly on my own mistakes....
Me: In total awe of your ability to create such beautiful things. Also Me: Parades around like a peacock when I successfully sew on a button. *sigh* I do hope that you are still doing this amazing work in a couple years. I have recently begun a transformation journey - and when I get to where I need to be, I want, more than anything, to buy some of your work!
I only recently discovered your videos, but I love them! I have a fascination with how people dressed and lived in previous decades and centuries, especially the details, many of which you demonstrate in your videos, like how did they go to the toilet, or what kind of shoes did they wear, how did they cook and what recipes were popular, what the etiquette was for different situations etc. I loved seeing these glimpses of what goes into producing period costumes. Being an amateur seamstress, I can appreciate the incredible amount of skill, knowledge and hard work you put into it! Thank you!
You have all you need. Enough said. It did my heart good to see someone else sew on their machine as fast as I do. You are an amazing example of someone living their dreams. I am so glad I found you and your wonderful creations. Thank you❤
What a life! Not boring at all. I think you're great at all the things you do especially for others. Indeed I have and will continue to enjoy your videos. Thank you. (Introverts rule especially when we have to speak in public!)
Lord, just watching that made me exhausted! What a fascinatingly cool yet demanding existence you lead! Thanks so much for all the awesome videos; they never cease to amaze.
I am so glad there are people like you in the world. I’m hoping that while I am in the UK next year, that we might meet. I am still as I have always been in awe of your skill and talent.
Wow! I am so impressed! I knew I loved your videos but had no idea that you are so versatile. Sew, teach, work, plan, demonstrate, just WOW! You can really tell you love your job. We, your fans reap the benefits. Thanks so much.
My daughter (11) and I love watching your videos and she asked for your book for Christmas- we obliged. She loves historical fiction and fashion so you have been a lovely inspiration for her. We go to the Renaissance Faire and we have a Dickens Faire here as well (Northern California) so I learn a little more each year in sewing her costumes. Thanks for sharing your life.
Looks so glamorous in the vids but you work so hard, it’s like watching a swan glide smoothly across a lake, you don’t always realise it’s paddling like the clappers underneath just to stay afloat!
Introverts unite! But each one in their own home. XD I love your work and am an avid follower of your videos so thank you so much for sharing! Props to the husband for being such a great companion, those are the best ones! It makes me so happy to see someone who has found happiness in their life! I wish you the best and may your happiness keep forever growing! Sending all my love from Uruguay.
Thank you for this glimpse into your life. It is clear how passionate you are about your chosen profession. Your energy seems boundless, you do so much, it's astonishing. And fitting in other interests. Amazing.
Sounds like a tough but satisfying job! It must be so rewarding to make a living and a business out of something you have so much passion for. Thanks for all the awesome videos you make!
Wow ! I don’t know how you do it all but I Thank You for your channel & the opportunity to see your beautiful clothes and learn about fashion history. 😃
Thank you so much for sharing! There is so much to owning your own business that a lot of people have no idea about! I hope one day to have a job I love just as much as you do. Thank you for all your hard work 🙌🏻
Your work is neat and brilliant in every way, thank you so much for sharing it with us and giving us a chance to see it! And I believe that your life is one of the most wonderful lives one can arrange at our times. Wish you lots of happiness and joy.
I wish there was a "love" button instead of a "like" button. This video was very insightful into what you do! I loved it! I really enjoy watching your videos
i really enjoyed what you shared thank you! I dont know if I should admit this but this American got a little confused when you were loading the car and started to walk to the right side of the car. Only for a moment I assure you but long enough I laughed at myself for my confusion! I thought why is she putting her basket on the drivers seat? Now where is she going, oh my, thats right shes in the UK, oh heavens Im such a dork. lol I really enjoyed this video, again thankyou.
I wish I had even a pinch of your talent. You’re amazing! It’s my 5th wedding anniversary this weekend and I didn’t get the wedding of my dreams (an Anne Boleyn era style wedding) because we couldn’t afford it but hopefully in another 5 years I will be able to renew my vows in a dress that you have made for me! Who knows?! I love all of your videos 💕
Congrats, on designing a life of creativity, joy and fulfillment. And also bringing joy, education and enlightenment to others along the way. I have only lately “stumbled” upon your videos. Love 💕 them to bits, slightly addictive 😍 wonderfully inspiring. Thank you 🙏🏻 tremendously and bless
The amount of work you put into your job and the dedication you have to details... I'd sell my soul to have one of your bespoke pieces...but alas, I'm American and the cost is beyond me *but worth every cent*. So I've watched you for years from afar, and just stare in awe. I would die for a Godey's Lady's Book dress.... and you bring them to life on a regular basis for me. Keep it up.
You are so truly amazing and your knowledge of costume history, design and construction is awe inspiring/ so many of the period costume designers fail because they don't use enough of the correct undergarments, I hope your work will get recognized for your genius !!
WOW! I didn't realize how many different related things you do. I love your videos showing the layers from the base garment up from various different periods. I used to study historical paintings and wonder how did those ladies achieve those sometimes extreme looks not natural to the body. Through watching your videos, mystery solved ! In order to draw something correctly, you must know what's hiding beneath the layers. Good Job!
You're an amazing person. Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of your life with us. You do such a great job, you share your knowledge and your ability, you're a true gifted person. Oh... And what a great hobby you have! I do the same in my free time. I wish you the best, keep working hard~
Oh how I love your videos and your historical dressmaking! I have a sewing machine but I cannot remember how to thread the bobbin, and that is just for starters. Not much historical dress making needed out here in western Canada mind you! I shall look for your book, and a sewing class!
Hi! I am surprised of your nice life! Congratulations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. I recently started to sew for teatral musical. And the next teatral musical will be The Miserables. I am from Perú and I am so happy to know your canal. I love it! I will sew the dresses of the workers of the fabrics, Javert, and prisoners. I am a little worried because I dont know about fabrics but I look for it always the best. Thanks you for all your time! God bless you!
O M G I think that I finally found the thing I want to do with my life Your work is amazing, I'm really inspired with all the things that you do. It's completely wonderful and I will love doing that too! I started to go sewing classes, I still learning but I will try to be good as you! Thank you so much! I don't speak English very well, so I hope you can understand me
At least you don't limit yourself to the tools and supplies available during the period. Ripping is still one of the most effective ways to parcel fabric out but some cutting is also required and rotary cutters are faster and easier on the hands.
My goodness is there anything you don't do?! What an incredible person you are. The final shot of you and Merlin is just precious - keep up the amazing work you do!
Mad respect. I can't fix a button properly lol. Also attempted sewing a replica dress once for Halloween. Hahahahaha...failed so hard. The things you create are amazing.
Wow, you have a very full day at work and every day helping others. God Bless you and your love ones. I really enjoy your videos. I am a member of the Regency Society of America and Colonial Williamsburg Society which I have to get my dress and stays prepared. I have gotten the Regency Era attire prepared. Great video
What an incredible life you have created! You must have an amazing work ethic, great organizational skills, obvious talent, and a real joy in doing what you love! You, my friend, are one fortunate lady. You have a life I would love!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. ❤
I don’t envy her life, but I do envy her work ethic! I’m going to cruise until something kills me, not putting in the effort to make my life better. That’s how some people are unfortunately :)
@@priorattire I certainly did not mean to imply that "chance" gave you anything. As I stated in my very first sentence, "What an incredible life YOU have created." I am 65 years old, and know only too well that anything as rich, full, and productive as the life you lead, is not something that comes easily. What I meant by your good fortune was that along with your hard work and dedication, you were intelligent and intuitive enough to know what you wanted and to have the work ethic to attain it. In my eyes, that makes you very fortunate, and I meant nothing less. I think if you reread the entirety of my comment, you will find I am definitely giving you full credit for your accomplishments.
OMG I just discovered your videos!!! I'm glad it's going to be a rainy-stay-at-home kinda day. Gonna make another cuppa and sit with my knitting and binge watch these!
This is the first time I have seen you in 'modern day' clothes, lol. Thanks for making this video. I actually thought you worked from your home on these creations. What a marvelous workshop, all those specialty machines. Have you found, with the overwhelming popularity of the series "Outlander' that your business has aquired many more orders for that particular time period in history? You must have the energy of 10 people! But I can tell it is a labor of love :) ( I loved everything in the video except the repetitious music, was surprised you didn't choose something more like a classical piece.)
You seem to live an extremely rich and fulfilling life! Many will be envious of how well you are able to prioritise and spread yourself over all these lovely activities. Thanks for sharing with us 😊
Wow! You're one busy woman. I got tired just reading all that you do. You do amazing work though and I can't help but wonder how you got into this specific craft. (I'm new to your channel.)
Yes! I relate so much to #introvertlife as well as to the gift of being able to do what one loves for a living, even though it will never make one rich...monetarily speaking, that is...but wealth can be measured in different ways. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your everyday life ♥
Thank you for sharing with us! I had no preconceptions about your work, so this was a delightful treat to see what truly goes into your day, and all you do outside of just running your shop. ❤️
I would love to learn how to make a corset to fit me! I saw in your class that the student in the foreground was wearing a corset. I love what you do! I do know how much time making an historical dress can take, as I used to make my own 11th century garb when I used to be a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms! I miss dressing up and learning about history (the middle ages), but I'm just too old for doing that, now. (I'll be 60 soon!) Oh to be 30 years younger! ~Janet in Canada
I absolutely love this! What a great video- what an amazing life and just seeing the passion you possess for your talent is inspiring!!! Sending positive energies for your continued success and appreciate the peek into you amazing world!
