What an amazing story...holy hell that moved me. Tell that man if he's ever in Canada free lessons on me. I mean it. REALLY gotta make my way to Kenya...he puts it so well. the reason we play...and what hockey means. Beyond all the politics and egos...he plays to be free. The best form of freedom his hockey :)
How does this have dislikes? This was a super moving story that can show you what you can just do to change your life and when you see that you will see that sports can change everything no matter what is happening with you. If your rich or poor hockey can change everything. Like he said Hockey is everything and it is a support system
Well, go on the NHL page or other sports pages and you'll notice there are a few people who think hockey isn't for everyone. I'm betting these folk disliked the video
Well, now dislikes are coming because (according to the Kenya Ice Lions) a popular UK influencer took a few thousand dollars with a promise to come down and film and he never went or refunded the money
@@connorwelcher fk Christ! So u sent me on a rabbit hole (even tho the op comment was 5yrs ago) to learn if what u said had any truth, to find a situation of semi-half truths, bogus splay commentary on HT channel and reddit. Did you research that at all?? The whole thing was taken completely out of context, in fact the facts to me make Egypt look bad. What you posted has some pretty deep false roots. Look it up. And I don't even watch HT hardly at all, but am sick of the jump to wrong conclusions going on constantly now
I lived in Nairobi,Kenya for six years! I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba but moved with my parents when i was seven... i am now 15 and am back in Winnipeg. I can remember rarely going ice skating because Panari was so far away. I finally have the opportunity to properly learn how to play hockey but its very expensive so i have to wait and try and save some money. I feel the same way as this guy though i only really saw hockey for the first time on Jan 23 when i saw my first hockey game in real life( i had never seen it on tv either) it was the winnipeg jets vs the anaheim ducks and i fell in love. I cant stop thinking about hockey and it really is my drug but since i dont have equipment or hockey skates( i have figure skates but i wanna sell them for hockey skates) i feel so empty all the time. Like there is a hole in my life and i just want to be able to buy all the equipment and never come off the ice again because i love it soo much.
That's amazing. I want to fly down to Kenya to run a skills clinic for these guys. He truly knows the meaning of the game and I would love to work with the players who are passionate about the game we all love. This guy is the true definition of a hockey player. He loves the game with everything he has and wants nothing more than to be on the ice.
I saw this video for the first time a few years ago and I appreciate everything I have so much more. Seeing the conditions that they live and okay in makes me wanna cry. I am so much more grateful now.
Thank you for this!!😍I’m a black hockey player from Florida....this video just shows the game economical status, transcends race and geographical boundaries❤️🥅🏒
Just wow, I'm 15 and trying to get into hockey but money is the main thing, and this was so inspirational and it touched me emotionally in way that made me feel happy. It's so true that hockey is a family not just a sport. I can't wait till I get money to buy the equipment and play, I can't wait
This is beautiful, I wasn't able to play hockey when I was little because I had some problems with my feet and legs even though I still tried and played for one year, now I'm practicing to actually play hockey for my schools team, this guy is a big inspiration.
im a miami cuban. im sure the music helps, but every word this man is saying is hitting me right in the feelz. i see hockey, in ALL its forms as one of the most beautiful experiences. whether its ethiopian genna, canadian ice hockey, californian pro beach hockey, bandy, shinty, hurling, field, floorball, broomball, pina, all of it is just so damn satisfying.
This is super touching. I am super grateful for everything I have. This is the definition of making sacrifices for what you love. “Skates are like wings” is the best quote I have ever heard.
@@dadaverage1577 really? Hating on an obviously inspiring video because your life is so depressing is the most you can do? Stop bringing negative energy into positive videos, mr keyboard warrior. And also, he’s not just “ DoiNG a LiTtLe sKAting” he’s breaking cultural boundaries and doing what may seem impossible for many people like him. I hope you’ve learned to be a better person in the world in the last year. Otherwise. You have no reason to be on this planet, all you are is a giant. Skin sack who is programmed to spout out negativity. Hope you love your life!
Amazing story! I was born in El Salvador and soccer is all I’ve known. Until I moved to the states and My closest friends all played hockey! So they taught me how to skate and since High School I’ve been playing pick-up Hockey as a second activity! I can totally relate to what this guy said on the video! There’s no greater feeling than gliding on the ice!
“Hockey is my freedom” Nevermore have I related to a statement more. It’s hard to explain how it feels. The sound of blades carving into the ice, the feeling of gliding along the ice, the feeling of nothing else in the world matters, and most importantly being with my hockey family. I would not be where I am today without hockey. Thanks for sharing your story Jeffie.
Powerful, emotional, and life-changing.... It's not about who has the best equipment, the hardest shot, or the best skating ability. It's all about the Love of the Game. Go out there and find your passion and roll with it.
Truly inspiring story, I almost shed a tear, this man shattered all the cultural boundaries set upon him and perused something that was nearly impossible to pursue, not many people have this much dedication and determination. Thank you for publicizing this amazing story and man. Sincerely. Thank you 😊!
The white guy in the teal shirt with the long hair... I recently met him in Philadelphia at a local pickup game on a Friday morning. Great guy and great player. He mentioned how he was visiting home over the holidays and that he lived in Kenya and played hockey down there. I remember him telling me the rinks are square. Didn't believe him. Lo and behold, I randomly click this video and you understand my disbelief when I saw his face. What are the chances!! Chris if you know him, give him a shout out for me from Philly and all the guys from Shinny USA!!!
Awesome, awesome video! This should be picked up by the NHL and shown on the jumbotrons before games. This is exactly how I felt as a kid playing street hockey in the early-mid 90s. I was inactive for several years due to moving around a lot, but now have come back to hockey as I'm living long-term in a cold weather spot. It is a family. a community, and it brings people together like no other sport. Thank you so much for this!!!
What an inspiring video and a fantastic journey. Congratulations to you for following your dreams and discovering meaning in what your passion is. Thank you as well for helping me learn about the game my son has recently taken an interest in.
hi Chris. I'm new to hockey and I have got an awesome amount of help from your well presented videos . I got a cheap pair of nexus 5000 but after watching your helpful videos and being 6ft.1 and 14st I've gone for the Vapour x500 . thanks and keep the videos flowing brother .also I have hit a few different rinks like Bracknell and Guildford spectrum and I found the ice very different especially at Guildford.
Yeah i know i watch our state team play, i have to drive 3+hrs to get to the rink, we dont have enough rinks in Aus. My city has a population of 85,00 and we dont even have one :(
Very inspirational, and like the other players here, he can skate on my men's league team, my Line for that matter, any time. Invitation is open from the States.
