When I was working in NYC, my boss had a strong relationship with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. He had fundraiser to keep it going. Thus, he had lifetime VIP status. He would sometimes give me his tickets to an event. The first time I saw a program, I was blown away. I had always gone to the ballet, but after this first encounter, it no longer held any allure. Not only the passion in the dance, but also the structure, the composition, held me fast. I have often wondered who Alvin Ailey was. Thank you for telling me. I’m only sorry that he had to struggle so much in his life. But, of course, that is the very reason, his dance company is so compelling.
I ve seen his dancers 8 times in 6 weeks …words fail me. My body felt every move every struggle every moment. From great suffering comes the most profound art …this is genius 😊
WOW!! Why have I only just heard of this man!!! His talent, his vision, his forward thinking, his determination, his creative mind…I could go on. What an absolutely incredible human.
I've seen the Alvin Ailey dancers a few times in Chicago & had an amazing seat for yesterday's performance. 2 dancers & the choreographer even stayed for a Q& A session afterwards. Absolutely amazing
Always overwhelmed to learn the struggles of men and women who believe and achieve . . . in spite of damn near Everything! Naysayers seem to invigorate and push people to success. So, it’s easy to “love thine enemies.” His life of dance - dance of life speaks volumes.
So I loved the documentary that came out recently. When I went to see it during the week, I was the only person there to see it. Which was lucky for me, because in certain moments I got so emotional. Found myself moved to tears and sobbing . Im grateful to have seen it and to have crossed paths with people who were part of the influence in his life.
