Lemme educate u small.. Blood itself isn't sold to patients. It would have been very expensive product. First of all, the health facility will have to ensure the blood is safe for transfusion. Secondly they have to ensure it is well stored. 1. U see that bag the blood is stored in, it is no ordinary bag. It contains special chemical that prevents the donated blood from clotting and the facility buys it. 2. The donated blood is tested for its group and checked for infectious agents (HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and C) . Kindly go to any facility and ask for the cost of those tests (ie blood group, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis and HIV) . HIV may be free. 3. The donor will initially be screened to check if he has enough hb and good blood preasure and go through series of questions to know if he/she is fit to donate before he/she is bled. Check the cost of Hb estimation in your nearby facility. 4. The blood is stored in a special fridge at a controlled temperature till a request for it is brought to the blood bank to be served. 5. Sometimes blood products (packed cells, cryoprecipitates, FFP etc)are prepared from the blood itself for different purposes. 6. Professionals who are working on this blood will have to be paid, their Gloves, disinfectants, reagents etc will have to be bought, there needs to be constant supply of electricity and proper documentations (electronic or manual) on movement of blood and blood products and it all involves money. So will u as a manager of a blood bank supply blood and blood products for free or you will charge a free for the processing.?

The process the blood goes thru before selling is expensive. And at times some of the blood are trashed sake of medical conditions. If we don't donate blood price will sky rocket and we can't buy. That's why

I believe the reason the hospital charges is because they have to process the blood and store it. Unfortunately it cost money.

Something is wrong with you. People donate blood to save life when you need blood transfusion. Somebody donated tha blood. Donors donate their kidney, liver, lungs, etc to save somebody's life. Educate yourself so you can contribute to the development Africa. Or do you want the white man from Europe to donate his organs to you instead?? Many people donate their blood plasm every two weeks and get paid $150. It helps to buy food for their families. The blood plasma is used in blood transfusion to save Ives. Did you know that??
