I have the oz alleggerita wheels, have had them for 3 years and the first thing I noticed was the weight. Huge difference compared to OEM wheels and get lots of attention. Definitely recommend them
I recently installed a set of Advan Racing RS2’s on my Audi S4. I decided to go for the same size as stock because rotational inertia is a function of both weight and radius. Since the majority of the mass of a wheel is in the barrel, buying a larger diameter wheel will increase rotational inertia and gyroscopic forces. The stock 18x8 B8.5 Audi S4 wheel weighed 12.7kg (28lb) and the RS2 18x8 weighed 8.1kg (17.85lb), that’s a saving of 4.6kg (10.1lb) per corner. I went for a fast drive up the Crown Range (an awesome mountain road near Wanaka New Zealand) and I have to say I noticed a difference. It wasn’t an insane difference but the car definitely felt more responsive to driver inputs. Steering was sharper and the car felt “pointier” when going through tight switchbacks and acceleration seemed a bit quicker and more responsive. I didn’t do any really hard braking so I didn’t notice much of a difference. The car would’ve probably looked a bit cooler with 19’s but I like the functional race car look of having a decent amount of tyre. Obviously you don’t want a huge side wall because then it’ll roll and you’ll lose steering feel and sharpness but you also don’t want a tiny side wall because the tyre needs to be able to conform to the road surface to maximise grip on surfaces that aren’t perfectly smooth. If you’re looking for lightweight wheels, also remember that radius is also important when trying to reduce rotational inertia and gyroscopic forces. The linear motion of the suspension won’t be affected by diameter, only mass. TMIAE
Nice. I am also going from 18x8 12+kg to 18x8 8,1kg. But still tyres can also have a noticeably difference in weight. I know my 234/45/18 fulda sportcontrol are 9,6kg a piece. I want to go for goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric5 but dont know the weight on those.
tony1967ify Imagine a triangle with light-cheap-strong on the corners. You can only pick 2. If you’re lucky you could find a set of light and strong wheels second hand to get a deal but you’ll have to keep a lookout. That’s how I got my Advan RS2’s. They were $1500 NZD for a set of 4 and they were in mint condition. Normally they would be $800 each. Some lightweight and strong wheels to keep an eye out for: OZ Racing Ultraleggera, ENKEI RP03, any Advan, Konig Hypergram, Volk Racing TE 37. None of these are cheap so you have to find a deal on them.
Litespeed Racing RS5RR forged magnesium monoblock wheels are a good choice. My 19" set weigh about 14 lbs each. Add s set of lightweight Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and you'll be saving a good 13 lbs off of forged aluminum wheels and tires.
@@pietrofacchini2984 they are cast wheels. Got them in 17x7 ET45 i think and they were 9,3kg just like the swift sport 2006-2010 wheel which was 7x6,5 ET50. (2011-2017 model had even lighter wheels) For a cast those are lightweight.
I like my wedssport sa10r. 18x8.5, around 18.5lbs. I paid $1400 for all 4 so they were a bit more expensive than the competition but I love the weight savings and I love the look. Really underrated wheel that doesn't get much attention. When I was doing my research, I noticed that gramlights really weren't all that light. They were easily 23-25lbs per wheel at 18x9.5. They are definitely cast not forged. If you want lightweight, you either need to go forged and pay a ton for it, go with RPF1s which everyone and their wife has, or to go lower in size. TE37s definitely have the prestige behind them. They are a really awesome wheel but pricey as hell.
No mention of the lightest wheel there is (excluding carbon fiber) the volk ce28n. I have a set in 14" for a very small car obviously, they weigh an astonishing 6.5lbs.
Damn everyone sleeping on the regamaster evo 2 or the knockoff rota slipstream.. also xxr offers some forged wheels now too. the 527f is right around 19lbs for an 18x10
Thanks for the sub! Welcome to the channel! If you ever need help finding wheels, Feel free to email us at shop@fitmentindustries.com and we can help you find some Hypergrams!
I'm getting a set of forged magnesium monoblock wheels for my 370Z from Litespeed Racing in LA. The front wheels are 19" x 9" and will weigh 14 lbs, with the 19" x 10" rears weighing 15 lbs. These will take 8 to 9 lbs off of the Rays forged aluminum wheels that came on my car, the sport model. In about 6 months when I have a brake job, I'm going to replace my steel one piece brake rotors with a set of Akebono two-piece rotors with aluminum hats. I will be taking another 10 lbs off the front corners and 5 lbs off the rears. I'm expecting my suspension dynamics to improve significantly. i'm already running Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires which are much better than the OEM Bridgestone Potenza tires the car came with.
Imagine an rpf1 of 13" or 12", with a weight of just 2 or 3 kilos per wheel... at the end you could have a total weight of around 10-12 kg with tires on... and then smaller brakes, shorter suspensions, arms, etc... It could quit amount of weight, and then removing other things, just leaving or adding reinforcement in the right and crytical places of the chassis. Dynamic should just a lil bit amazing, with just 100-200 bhp.
Have OZ on one car. Just about as light as the enki. Look nicer but a lot more money. My other car has ssr type c. I got a crazy deal on them. Full price they are way expensive. Think I paid half.
i wish Wedssport would get with the times and make 19s!!!...their Tc105x in an 18x8 +45 is just 16.24lbs...RPF-1s are 18.0lbs in the same size/offset and the lightest wheels ive found for under $900 each. (Tc105x is $498 a piece)
@@alecparkes5036 point me in the direction of anything remotely JDM or EDM in a 5x5.5(139.7) Ram 1500. 17" and as thicc as possible with dirt nasty - offset.
@@mylesswann530 lodio drive might make something like that, but they're usually 16 and smaller and you would probably have to re lip them. see them on toyota's lots.
@@alecparkes5036 thank you, definitely looking for something like this. Smallest i can go is a 17"" for caliper clearance and tire options that aren't A/Ts or M/Ts i need street or H/Ts
@@alecparkes5036 that and neg offsets, im sitting at a +19 stock, but these JDM Vintage wheels are sexy, i really don't want to run spacers if possible.
When he says "designed for the track" will they be strong enough to take the abuse of street roads and these crazy pot holes that we come by with our dailys?
been rocking the motegi tracklite's for 4 years now. my 235 17 45 weigh 17.6lbs (i know he didnt wanna mention the wight cause it would blow the others out the water) haha.
Why do these all seam so heavy! Where are all of the 8-10 pound wheels at? Those would actually be light though I’m sure each wheel would be a 1,000 but this video isn’t about cheap wheels!
You should put advan GT vs. te37 instead since they are both fully forged.and enkei rpf1 vs. Konig hypergram (both flowformed). The advan GT is lighter than te37 in same spec size wheel due to less spokes.the rpf1 is 1lb lighter than hypergram but hypergram have more access/room if u have BBK
I have Advan GT in order in 18x8.5+45 and I’m eager to weigh them, I haven’t been able to find an exact weight for that specific size anywhere online. I used to have a set of TE37SL in 18x9+45 (to the best of my recollection) on a precious car, and they weight right under 18 pounds.. I feel like the RPF1 really are the best bang for the buck, unless I‘m missing something.
“You’re going to want a lightweight wheel for the track and to go fast” I just got them so young peeps say “check out that guys dope ass rims” when I be getting coffee or visiting the supermarket. These rims ain’t seeing no track 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another Enkei...pf07 18x10 et38..could you please tell me what's the weight on those? I see they are Enkei Racing series wheels and uses MAP, but I can't find any data on weight!
Quick question, I have a 14 wrx hatch and I'm looking at wheels. I'm thinking of going with a 18 by 9.5 with a 30 mil offset and 265/40 18 tires...would that with without rubbing or what should I change?
U have an nc mx5 and looking on the interwebs, I learned that the original 17" eheels that I have are around 7.7 kg. Which is already really light and this makes my job in finding a lighter wheel so much harder. I badically have not much other options than the rpf1's.
Not to brag or anything, but I'm running 18x8 O.Z. Racing Ultraleggera on my E46 and im preeety sure that they are lighter than all the weels in the video.
Fair amount of information for our data to process with all of the different wheel sizes and such but it is something that we are currently working on as it is heavily demanded!
I'm pretty sure there are some impact/strength tests in there too. Just because a wheel maybe forged, doesn't automatically make it strong. Same thing with multi-piece wheels vs one piece. A while back I had heard (some) HRE wheels were banned from HPDE events due to wheels breaking. HRE are great, expensive, stylish wheels but still have flaws. Also, some wheels can be light and strong but they will deform under certain impact conditions vs cracking.
