Spinning off from the incredibly popular 1960s sitcom and its BAFTA-winning 1970s sequel, James Bolam and Rodney Bewes star as Terry Collier and Bob Ferris, two life-long friends with vastly different outlooks on life. Thelma's continued annoyance at her husband Bob's disruptive friend Terry shows no sign of abating. But when Terry lands himself a new girlfriend, Thelma sees her chance to finally get him married off and out of her's and Bob's lives forever! Her solution of touring the north of England in a caravan, however, leaves a lot to be desired...

This, undoubtedly, was one of the greatest comedies of all time. Fabulous writing and a superb cast. An all-time classic that stands the test of time.

This scene is so relevant to today in the Town as so much of it is being turned into a student campus. “So much of the past is gone “

Living in North Tyneside where many scenes were filmed, I was a great fan of the two series of 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads in the 1970s. The film was OK too, certainly better than the majority of spin-off films from sitcoms. I actually walked along this same pier only a few days ago, Tynemouth Pier. You are no longer allowed on the lower section now, I think for safety reasons. Anglers can though, as long as they are members of an angling club. RIP Mr. Bewes. Edit .. I've just seen on Wiki, he died exactly 2 years ago on 21 November 2017

The quality on a big screen 4K TV is outstanding. All a bit sad that some of those staring in these TV series/movies 50 odd years ago or so never got a chance to sit down and watch their performances on HD, just on VHS or DVD at best.
