Technically, Kovu is not Scar's biological son. He was more choosen to be Scar's heir to the throne. In a deleted scene of the first Lion King movie, Scar had a desire to conceive an heir to succeed him. This led him to make a move on Nala when she was walking pass his cave and the evil lion attempted to "approach" her to her his queen. Thankfully with the help of Zazu, she escapes her fate and the crew Thankfully decided to delete that scene for it was too grim and dark. This lead to the thought that since Scar can't conceive an heir of his own for not all of the lions will accept him, Zira being the most loyal to Scar, offers her son Kovu among her three cubs to be Scar's successor. But that didn't happened. For when Simba returns and takes back the throne after defeating Scar, Zira and her family along with some of Scar's followers were banished into the Outlands, after the lioness attempted to overthrow Simba. Which leads to the current events in the movie right now.

Kovu was originally supposed to be Scar's son which is why he looks like him, Disney's CEO at the time had them change that because... well that would imply that Kovu and Kiara were first cousins and cue the banjo music. Not like it wouldn't happen in the wild but probably a wise change anyway

In the deleted part Nuka half-jokes something like: "I finally got your attention, didn't I?" before his death. It is heartbreaking. Zira was smiling when she fell because they originally planned that she would choose to commit suicide rather than move on and forgive. I always wondered why Zira wouldn't want to get revenge on hyenas since they were the ones that eventually killed Scar, not Simba, but I liked how you connected her reasons more to Mufasa, that makes sense (at least from her point of view). Thanks for this great reaction.

Nuka said the hyenas ran off, so there was no way for her to find them. best thing for her to do was attack Simba who send Scar down to the hyenas

Among all the direct to video Disney sequels, this one is among the best imo. The quality in animation changed a bit but TLK 2 is still visually appealing and enjoyable to watch. Even though Hans Zimmer wasn’t part of the musical aspect this time, the music of the film is still good for what it is, including the songs (my favorite being “He Lives in You”).

growing up i always preferred this movie over the first. it was probably mostly because i had crushes on vitani and kovu lmao, but even as an adult i still prefer it. i like the plot and outcome a lot better. nuka's story is also so much sadder, looking at it as an adult. but it's always such a nice moment seeing them all come together in the end, at the battle and then later at pride rock. :')

The opening music was a cut song from the first movie. It's a song Rafiki sings to Simba where he tells his father "he lives in you." The Broadway musical version kept the song in the preformance

1:38 Those were Okapi! They're infact not related to zebras at all, but are relatives of the giraffes! They're a very rare species of mammal that live out solitary lives in the jungle (obviously not showcased in the film because they're exotic and eye catching so they were put into the film). They were only recently discovered to exist by the western world in 1901, but they're a heavily respected and cherished species by those who live in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and as such the okapis were made their national animal and put on the face of some of their currency!

This sequel, like pretty much every Disney Renaissance-era sequel, was deliberately made with a lower visual quality for two reasons. 1) They were all direct-to-video releases, and 2) Disney used these to give a chance to newly-hired animators to practice before assigning them to teams working on theatrical releases. Love your channel, man. Keep up the good work!

You were... oddly somehow right when you called Kovu "young Scar", because his name does mean "scar" in Swahili. Some new names are borrowed from this language as well (pretty sure you've heard that the names from the original movie were too): Zira: hatred Vitani: at first her name was Shetani (demon) Nuka: stinky (oh yeah) Also, in the first scenario option, Zira was to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff ("No... Never..."), but it was considered faaaaar too dark...

Before the sequel, the baby in the end was supposed to be a boy. They had little stories of the lion king cast and they showed the son was named Kopa.

The cub in the end of the original is considered genderless as the film makers given the cub a name Fluffy. On the commentary of TLK, they called the cub Fluffy with no gender given. The cub is shown in the official trailer of TLK 2 shown that Fluffy and Kiara are one character. In the spinoff series, Simba does have a son by the name, Kion. Kion is the younger cub to Simba and Nala. He's Kiara's younger brother. Kopa on the other hand, isn't Disney's creation. He is created by an outsider children book illustrator, Alex Simmons. The six books that Kopa is present in are only released in America and the books were never reprinted. Disney completely ignored those books but allowed their stamp on the books. Therefore, The cub (Fluffy) in the ending and Kiara remain as one cub. Simba only had one child, a girl Kiara until the spinoff was released and have a second child, a boy Kion. Kopa does not exist in the films but only in the books, while Kiara is in both films.

Ok from what I have gathered, Nuka and Vitani were Scar's biological kids. And Kovu is a cub Zira had with another lion but he was healthier looking than Nuka, so Scar made him his heir instead. He lives in you, Love will find a way and My Lullaby are my favorite songs.

There is a theory that Nuka was Scar's son but Scar rejected him as his heir for being born weak and sick, so instead Scar choose Kovu for being a strong and healthy cub that also looks like him.

Glad you enjoyed this sequel, and I’d think you would enjoy The Lion King 1 1/2, which is the first film told from Timon and Pumbaa’s point of view. Zira was more like a loyal follower like Bellatrix to Voldemort; the idea of her being his mate and queen was deleted to avoid an incest relationship between Kiara and Kovu. If you check out The Lion Guard, which centers on Simba and Nala’s second-born son Kion, details about Scar’s origin and spirit, Zira and her family, and hyenas like Jasiri who respect the Circle of Life are given. 🦁👑✌️🖤💛🧡❤️

In one of the deleted scenes it is heavily implied that she was his mate, but there just isn't enough proof. It's actually pretty annoying how they keep hinting stuff that they don't explain.

@@MatthewJamesKalasky I agree with you on Nuka's quote, but then it bothers me how Nuka and Vitani call Scar "Scar" (even in the deleted scenes), as if he isn't their father. And to make matters worse, in The Lion Guard (yes, yes, I know many of you don't want to talk about it LOL), Zira said to Kion that "Scar and I were close. VERY close", instead of wording it to make it subtly clear that she did have Nuka with Scar. Zira not having Nuka with Scar just doesn't make sense, since Scar is so power-hungry and jealous, I just cannot imagine that he would allow a lioness to have cubs with another male. He'd just have them killed in a heartbeat (and most likely the lioness too). If Nuka really truly isn't Scar's son, then that means that Scar allowed Zira to have cubs with another male TWO TIMES in a row. Nope. The Scar we know would DEFINITELY not allow that. With that being said, I would be totally fine if it was clear from the beginning that Zira is definitely NOT Scar's mate. I hope that Disney would one day give us an answer (even though said answer would most likely not be from the original people who created SP). I just hate how we are getting teased about it.

The beautiful opening number, "He Lives in You" (my favourite song too), is a shortened version of the song, "They Live in You", taken from the Lion King Musical (an album itself inspired by the Lion King Movie). I'll admit it took me a little bit too to realize that Kovu couldn't be Scar's biological son because that would make him and Kiara first cousins, a close relation certain to make their future romance very awkward.

It's not taken from the musical. It was a song released one year after the release of The Lion King. Because the movie and the songs were a tremendous success, Disney made more Lion King-related plus African songs in an album called "The Rhythm of the Pridelands". The Broadway musical used 5 songs from it - "He Lives in You", "Busa", "Lea Halalela" (which became "Shadowland"), "One By One", and "Lala" (which became "Endless Night").

Because the movie and the soundtrack album were a tremendous success, Disney made more Lion King-related plus African songs in an album called "The Rhythm of the Pridelands" one year after the movie's release. The Broadway musical used 5 songs from it: 1. "He Lives in You" 2. "Busa" (which was partially used in "The Grassland Chants") 3. "One by One" 4. "Lea Halalela" (which became "Shadowland") 5. "Lala" (which became "Endless Night").

Im so glad you loved it!! Ive been waiting for this one! :D It was direct to video BUT they had a whole toy release and lots of advertising for it even little mini plushes at McDonalds. It was so fun! I remember getting the new toys and waiting in line at Mcdonalds bc everyone wanted to see which plushes they had gotten in for happy meals. Some of my best memories ever

Awesome reaction yet again! I actually loved this sequel, and Aladdin & The King Of Thieves. Even though the first 10-15 minutes of this sequel at least felt like a rehash of the first film, I liked how they went a newer direction after that (which is more than I can say about The Little Mermaid 2: Return To The Sea, for the most part). I loved the relationship between Kiara, and Kovu, and how could you not like some, if not all, of the songs, despite them not being quite as good as the songs from the first film? Overall, I loved the amount of heart that was in this direct-to-video sequel. Well, great reaction yet again, and see you likely in the next one!

The way I see it, Mufasa was the heir because he was the oldest. which scar hated. Kovu is the youngest so scar relates to him and designates him as king.

[TW discussion of suicide!] Originally when Zira falls off the cliff at the end she was going to let go on purpose, to choose to die instead of side with the Pridelands or let Kiara help her. She was going to kill herself rather than swallow her pride. You can kind of tell in the final movie because she's smiling when she falls. They edited it because it would've been really dark.

I watched this over and over when it came out and collected the McDonald’s toys lol. Of course looking back it’s lackluster compared to the original, but still fun to watch. 😄

Unpopular opinion: This one’s my favorite of the 3🥹❤️❤️ And yes, it was straight-to-VHS Kovu’s not Scar’s son..I doubt Vitani is his daughter, Nuka…I feel like he is tbh. ALSO, Sidney Prescott and Adult Kiara are the same person

There’s actually a series that Disney made called the Lion Guard where Simba actually has a son named Kion, who leads the lion guard to protect the Pride lands.

From what I've read, Kovu and Vitani are neither Zira's nor Scar's biological offspring. However, it is speculated that Vitani may be the daughter of Nala and Scar, and since in the deleted scenes, Scar does try to make Nala his queen. Nuka is the only biological child of Zira and Scar, but Nuka was born quite weak and underdeveloped due to both Scar's and Zira's weaker constitutions, so Scar rejected him as his heir, and Vitani was a lioness, so he didn't want to make a female his heir. Kovu was taken from a prideless lioness and since he was a strong cub, while Nuka was weak, he made Kovu his heir.

The probably brought up the fact that he isn't Scar's son cos then Kiara would have hooked up with basically her uncle since Kovu and Simba would be cousins

In real life a lion herd has only 2 adult male lions and everyone else are female and the first movie follows that, since Mufasa and Scar are the only adult male lions, so Nala's dad is either Mufasa or Scar, so Nala and Simba are either either half siblings or cousins!

This is the only good direct to video Disney sequel. The animation isn’t that bad, much better than most of the other sequels animation. And actually good songs. The tv series “Lion Guard” is set in between the time-jump in this movie, filling in the gaps. Also while the first movie is based on Hamlet, this one is based on Romeo and Juliet.

Here’s what the Wild 😛 Force Ranger have to say Max: Simba let Mufasa down ⬇. Cole: He let Kiara down ⬇. The reason why she ran 🏃‍♀ away from him because she doesn’t care about taking his place in the throne 🪑 anymore. Taylor: She’s upset 😭 after Kovu was banished from the Pride Lands without letting him get a chance to explain. Alyssa: Simba was just being overprotective of his kingdom 👑. Merrick: Simba's beyond overprotective, that's his problem. Danny: Simba’s not 👎 good 😊 enough to be like his father.

@JV's_Galactic_Adventures Kovu can't be Scar's son, because then he couldn't be with Kiara- because they would be 1st cousins once removed. Remember that Scar was Simba's uncle.

They make a big deal out of pointing out that he's not Scars son so that the eventual relationship between Kovu and Kiara won't be incestuous. If he were scars son and scar was Simba's uncle that would have made the kids cousins

10:04 to be fair, I can see my mom’s friends only a couple weeks apart, and they act like this. Lol. Simba’s Pride was actually my fav of the 3 movies. I think it’s the same as me preferring Bambi 2, it’s the father-daughter bonding plot in this one that I love. 18:54 just waitttt😔 can’t judge too early.
