I’m tired of people telling me that animation is for children. My grandma hated animation until I showed her The Iron Giant and she’s changed ever since. It’s so sad that children of today may not know about the superior animated versions of these movies.
The Iron Giant was an excellent choice for an introduction. One of the best. If my kids ever watch the Disney classics, it will be the *classic animated* versions, not this stuff.
They have to wear out all their original animated features first. I hear they're waiting to make a live action/CGI Snow White for the very last since it was Disney's first animated feature, kind of as a bookend to the whole remake effort. Ah, but then what legacy will they rape? Guess it'll be time to see what's there to plunder in the new toys they got from Fox.
disney moves forward and not backward disney made mistake in the past and disney hope lion king and mulan little mermaid live action movie be a success now :) gargoyle and even finding nemo and even hunchback of notre dame and even rapunzel now
Worst scene for me was the mufasas cloud, on the original I could feel in my soul that simba was desperately lost. him trying to follow his father as he was fading was so emotional.

However, when he said "I never left you" to Simba before fading away, gave me emotional feels
The fact that the remake took out the "past can hurt" scene from the original was so baffling to me I didn't even know what the point of the movie was anymore. It was so painful to watch.
@@stanhenderson9928 Okay but... was there anything there that would be considered not politically correct? Actually I'd say that scene fits with that whole mentality what with racial, gender, etc oppression in the past.
A lot of scenes were neutered in this movie, which as VocalCalibration said, is confusing because it's a full half hour longer. I didn't notice any scene in the remake that wasn't already in the original, but I did notice a ton of scenes that they cut out for the remake. Like Timon dressing in drag and doing the hula. Or the "past can hurt" scene. I feel like there were a lot more scenes with Rafiki in the original in general, but barely any in the remake. "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" was missing, which made me sad as that's one of my favorite comedic scenes in the movie. "Be Prepared", my 100% favorite song from the original, lacked literally EVERYTHING that made it great...
@@csmlyly5736 To be fair, other CGI lions have done much better on that front. Even Aslan was more emotive, and that movie was...how many years ago? Guardians of Gahoole or whatever that owl movie was had all realistic owls, but they still showed emotion.
the problem with trying to make cats seem morel ike cats is that they dont look like humans and so by default are hard to read. I even understand body language of cats to some extent but because allot if not al lthe important scenes were ripped straight from the animated classic they all focus on the face, which is a problem when everyone has the exact same stony expression. Besides, i have seen pictures of wild lions that have more expression in their facial features than this movie even attempts. all i had to do to actually see lions with personality is google pic search silly lions.
Tbf, most of the Disney animated classics are just their take on preexisting stories. But even then, it was still THEIR take on it, not just a completely copied retelling. You could still feel when it was Disney. These remakes just feel like soulless cashgrabs, nothing more.
It’s cus it’s so much about the money now. Nostalgia sells and they don’t want to take a risk putting money into something unknown. It’s a shame but at the same time there are plenty of great original things being made. You just have to look a tiny bit.
To everyone defending these remakes, be honest to yourself: Which version are you going to show to your children? Edit: Wow some of you are getting really emotional (and insulting) down there. If you like the remakes better, than you have a strange taste in my opinion but my opinion obviously doesn't matter, so watch what you want but I'd love to see disney making real new movies and not just sequels and remakes. Because why would I retell a perfect story?
It’s times like this that I like to think back to a quote by a very wise fellow: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should”.
I think the statement about standing on top of what others had worked for fits in here as well. - Well you are not telling a story you are putting actors on a rail to do what you tell them without leaving room for your take on it.
It wasn't about doing Scar dirty, it was about the hyenas. All jokes about them being stupid idiots was taken out. Be Prepared is all about being condescending and how stupid the hyenas were. If the hyenas aren't stupid in this movie, then the original song made no sense. I personally liked the changes and didn't feel like they changed enough. I felt like i was watching the same movie. Why would you want a movie that is word for word, scene for the scene the same? Just watch the old one.
@@KingLeno It's just that it's the best song in the movie and possibly the best villain song of all time. They could've changed everything else and left that song as close to original as possible and I woulda been happy
@@KingLeno that's the point of re-release Disney's movies. He said re-release them not reboot it in your own idea. And why not have it word for word, scene for scene? Taylor Weir freal..funny thing is when it first came out I was no more than 8 and scar was my favorite character 🤷🏻♂️don’t know why but when I seen him on the new flick I thought the same thing 😆
@@KingLeno they didn't do it scene for scene, the problem is that what they changed doesn't make sense. They add a few things about scar's backstory, which is a good thing, but they chose to make Scar look sick, which I think does not make Scar look as threatening. Scar just looks like a sad and dying lion, and he doesnt have his sassy attitude. They chose to cut important lines: "it doesnt matter, it's in the past. The past sometimes hurts." (rafiki). "you have forgotten yourself, therefore you have forgotten me" (mufasa). And the famous nala and simba song that we should call "can you feel the love this afternoon". And there is the lack of emotions, which is a big problem.
We don't need hyperrealism in films. We have hyperrealism already, it's called the real world. If I want to watch hyper-realistic lions with a story, I'll watch a David Attenborough documentary.
They even put that generic Beyonce song on Simba's come back to the Pride Lands instead of the much fitting original one, and removed the past can hurt staff scene--- So ye, it's definitely lacking at the core.
I also missed Jeremy Irons as Scar. Chiwetel Ejiofor is a really good actor, but Irons’ menacing voice was perfect for Scar and as iconic as James Earl Jones as Mufasa in my opinion. Like the “long live the king” line fell flat without Irons’ voice.
The entire part felt very weak. Up until the point of Mufasa saving Simba it was really intense. Even Mufasa climbing the rocks was intense. But Scar showing up and letting him fall was weak, and evem Simba yelling and crying wasn't that emotional (the only part makimg it good was the kid that voiced him). For some reason the most emotional scenes in the original were the most boring scenes in the remake. The scene of Scar confronting Sarabi and then letting the heyinas eat first was way more interesting than the final fight.
markwaty1 the movies didn’t do well enough. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that, it’s about money. Businesses exist to make money. Treasure planet was a flop no matter how much we like it

@@GLARebel I'm glad that I didn't watch the CGI film. The one thing I like about the old film is because of the facial expressions, my friend who watched the film said that "he can't tell if they are happy or sad".
Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of those actors who's technically great, but limited by the material they're given. If he's given crap, he won't have a prayer in elevating it to decent.
From the moment I found out they didn’t even contact Jeremy Irons to let him know about the remake, I had a terrible feeling about it. Then I found out they hired Beyoncé to voice Nala and I knew I was gonna hate it. Even so, I waited for the trailer and man, was that a huge disappointment. I hate this remake
Well in the French dub there's an excuse as to why Jean Piat (Scar's voice actor) didn't return to reprise his role. This great man has unfortunately passed away.
Being realistic doesn't mean dark, boring, and/or pessimistic. Realism in storytelling is taking real life consequences and causes and effects and making it work in a story. Not just taking away creative liberties for realism.
I agree. I get involved with stories in general to escape reality.

I disagree with the kid actor for Simba being good. He doesn't sell the emotions of the scenes to me and it sounds like he rushes EVERY line. But though I didnt like his performance, I do not fault him at all. Any problem with his lackluster performance is 100% the fault of the director.
I felt like everyone was just going through the motions and reading lines. This could’ve been just as good(bad) if they just put the audio with shots from a National Geographic video. Would’ve saved them a bunch of money too.
Me too! I was expecting what they showed was the intro and the real song would start to play. but no.. they built up then it fizzled and i felt like wow that was it?
I noticed a fair amount of people having genuine interest in the Idea of a Atlantis and Treasure Planet live action remake. Honestly I love the idea, they're both really underappreciated films that deserve so much more and the remakes could easily have spin-off films considering how unique each films world's and mythology are
I adore those movies, but Disney will (sadly or hopefully depending on your views) never make them into live action. Although they are classics now, they were box office flops when they first came out. Disney would be too scared to even touch those movies lol
The second I saw the first trailer I knew that it was gonna be bad. How can the characters show emotion on their faces when they can barely move it at all???
My biggest issue with these remakes: They will never be as good as the originals. This is not because they don’t have any virtue, but because they have a standard to live up to that will never be reached. Why waste your time tainting a story with cheap retellings and strained repeats of dialogue???
Very good point. Just because your movie is supposed to be realistic, doesn't mean you can't have any sort of creative license, and must make it dark, drab and dull.
Live-action and photorealism can still make great use of colour and be all bright and vibrant. To use a musical example for comparison, look at something like La La Land. That film uses vibrant splashes of colour all over the place, especially in clothes and lighting, to give it a unique, almost fantasy dream-like feel. But it's all too common for films trying for some kind of 'realistic' look to use colour-grading that sucks most of the energy and life out of it, which you don't really want in a fun, feelgood Disney musical.
Broxalax They ruined every aspect of this movie. Watched the original with my kids last night. They immediately said they preferred the original, after seeing the new one a couple weeks ago. It was a total cringe fest.
Never been a fan of remakes of animations. It is a insult to 2D animators, receating iconic moments which the 2D animators worked really hard to achieve, only for a fast cash grab. I havent watched The Lion King Remake. Instead watched the original animation, and The Prince of Egypt.
@Ω - Your opinion has some flaws. If a original animation was made in 3D (like Toy Story), and it would have been remade in 2D to earn some fast cash. Then yes, it would have been a insult to the 3D animators. However that is not the case here.
@@SAWTheDesigner That argument still makes no sense. It's not a "fast cash grab" if tons of effort went into the work. The animators who worked on the movie have done so much work, and therefore a "fast cash grab" is a straight up insult to them.
I find it funny that when voice actors do their voices, they act with their body. You know doing some hand movements and some body movements to get into character. But when you see the movie, the characters are just... emotionless. It’s just blank stares

Another note on Beyoncé. In her songs she does a thing that I personally hate, where she drags the words and basically shows off her vocal range, just because she can. That's just a personal complaint on my end, though, as I mostly find it kinda obnoxious when any singer does that.
Really? I thought I was the only one who hated her covers of stuff because she would just sing unnecessary riffs! I'd make fun of her by singing it back and it would sound really stupid because there was not reason to sing that way. It feels like she is in a competition to sing better than others and people reward her for it.
Beyonce is a talented singer, there's no doubt about that, but you're absolutely right. Those riffs were completely unnecessary...but everything has to be about her. She is the lead and everyone else are her backup singers. She even sang above Donald Glover in "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". It was not a duet (where both sang equally), but more of a Beyonce feat. Donald Glover.
As soon as we left the theater, my sister in law said Mufasa's death scene didn't affect her nearly as much as the original. I cried during both, BUT the original Mufasa falling clip is so much more powerful. It's like you can feel the betrayal, sadness and fear....which didn't come across in this version. That scene was so iconic & monumental, but seemed like it was an afterthought in this movie. Idk...I knew going into it, that nothing would compare to the original, but the Mufasa dying scene was by far the biggest fail imo.
Weeb Freak erm first of all they’re called musicals darling. Secondly unless you’re not particularly cultured why would you naturally assume that the live action remake should be better than the live musical?
The True “Live Action” Version of Lion King will always be the Broadway Musical. There’s more heart into that stage play then the 2019 version of Lion King. I always thought when they announced the Lion King remake all those years ago, I thought they would take cues and songs from the Broadway Musical. I was so excited, and now that I saw reviews and clips of the 2019 version, it just hurt to watch.
And the worst part is, the new Lion King has still at this point grosses over $1.2B... Which makes it the highest grossing remake of all time, and it's the 3rd highest grossing animated movie of all time. Just behind Finding Dory and Incredibles 2 lol.
I was so disappointed with John Oliver’s performance as Zazu. I really thought he would be perfect for the role, but he sounded like he just phoned in the character.
I disliked how it was a frame for frame remake practically. This was risky. It is like going to see a cover band; it can be flashy and well executed but it is still not the original. I had more respect for the other Disney remakes because they at least delved into different aspects of the story. Maleficent is a great example. It wasn't just a live action sleeping beauty, it gave us a new story about a character we were familiar with. No one can dispute how realistic Lion King 2019's animation was, but that doesn't objectively make it a good film.
Yeah exactly. At least the other remakes did change things here and there. this movie just felt like a lesser version of the original all the way through.
RedBeardNP Yeah, I'm tired of people always praising projects just because of how they "look." Just because it "looks" realistic or whatever doesn't make it good. That's the same beef I have with some modern video games; people only seem to care about the "graphics" rather than anything else. It's really irritating. Me, I think it's the inside that counts, not the outside.
Prophet They are talking about how they changed almost nothing. They didn’t really add anything or take any new songs from the broadway play kept the same songs except for that Beyoncé song. They were lazy in the story and everything that everybody loved in the original they took it out. In order to understand what happens you need to have watched the original.

It's an obsession with realism and with CGI. The storytelling is shoved all the way in the back, which is why I have been leaning towards non-Hollywood cinema for years now.

As a counterpoint to the lack of expression, I thought of the Queen in Brave when she turns into a bear. One of my favourite things in that movie is how she looks like a bear, but with these animated expressions and gestures, but when she turns more like a real bear, she goes kind of dead-eyed, like *she* is not all there. It was great way to show what she was experiencing. It seems to me like in the Lion King, they opted to stick strictly with the latter, and yeah, it definitely comes out flat - like the characters as people aren't entirely there. It's made even more stupid by fact that real animals can definitely show quite a good range of expression...
It really sucks that these movies are being so poorly made. In my opinion, Jungle Book was actually a pretty good movie. I feel like it kept the spirit of the original pretty well, and was well casted.
