In 2018 Disney’s THE LION KING and its guests will be supporting Centrepoint’s work to give homeless young people a future across the country.
Centrepoint is the leading charity for homeless young people, supporting more than 9,200 16-25 year olds into a home and a job every year. Since 1969 they have helped 125,000 young people, 88% of those they work with move on positively.
Centrepoint provides more than a safe place to stay. Dedicated staff help young people into education, training and employment as well as support with mental and physical health. Centrepoint also provides learning and development experiences for young people to give them a taste of different professions and industries.
In addition to raising awareness and fundraising, Disney will provide unique ways for young people supported by Centrepoint to learn and develop, which is planned to include performance and backstage workshops, business skills opportunities with the broader Disney company as well as the chance to experience the show for themselves. The partnership underscores both organisations’ focus on improving the lives of young people, teaching them skills and resilience, and helping them achieve their potential.
To mark the new partnership, THE LION KING has created this video of Nick Afoa (the West End’s Simba) singing Endless Night from the production. The song marks the moment in the show when Simba is in exile, finding himself in a dark and lonely place. During the song Simba discovers hope and a determination that ‘the night must end and the sun will rise’ - which ultimately leads him back to find his place in the Circle of Life.
