I like the part where when Korey is overhyping the artist, Martin reacts by humbling the artist. This to-and-fro juxtaposition is why I love you guys so much
What I especially don't like about this new film is how by making everything so real, it completely removes all the artistry. The original film is without a doubt one of the most beautiful films of all time. This just looks like a nature documentary edited to tell the story of the lion king.
@@sanogoadamagyram8166 All the trailers have literally just been recreated shots from the original with absolutely no difference other than it looking more realistic.
@Black Ninja Sorry but when you watch Black Panther too many times you get to pick up a lot of things that is common with the Lion King there's even a video on RU-vid saying Black Panther and The Lion King is the same movie.
@Black Ninja brother look at the facts. TChaka (Mufasa), the king is murdered and TChalla (Simba) has to take over after his father. He's unsure of himself. Then some other dude Killmonger (Scar), his relative, confronts TChalla to take over the throne and he wins and everyone assumes TChalla is dead. Then even though they dont like this new king, the people follow him cuz of tradition. Then TChalla with the help of some friends believes in himself and has a spirtitual experience where he sees his father and knows what he has to do. Then he takes on Killmonger and the loyal to him just cuz turn around on him and TChalla wins and is now a better man and better king. I know its different but straight up the bones are all the same. And both movies are copies of Hamlet if yall know that Shakesperean play
I talked so much shit on will Smith as Aladdin before the movie came out and ended up loving it. I'm scared to give any opinion on Disney movies until it comes out.
I think Disney remakes are worse than Pixar sequels. Sure, both types are created to make a lot of money, but at least Pixar attempts to put some soul in most of their sequels (Cars 2 being the only exception), while the remakes have none whatsoever.
@@Thewordoftheswordmin Say what you will about Beyonce but she has great vocal talent and range, you can tell whenever she is singing with many other singers the slight gap in power, versatility and ease in which she can unleash a vocal performance.
I honestly find it odd that you have Donald Glover-Childish Gambino-voicing your main character, and he’s been featured in 0 trailers, just finally a singing TV spot three weeks before the movie comes out. What they hiding... UPDATE (7/11): ah, so the voices look awful coming out the animal faces. There it was...
tropicAces His voice is only in half the movie, so they probably don’t want to spread him out too thin in the trailers. And they don’t really need him to sell the movie as Disney can just go off of name recognition alone.
I mean, I don’t think there’s much to worry about. He is a very talented performer who was picked and top billed for the role. I think he’ll bring a fine performance at the very least.
I saw Childish Gambino live last year and I was honestly shocked by how good of a singer he was. Like he was honestly really good live. I of course was already a fan of his rapping but I was really pleasantly surprised by his singing.
What upsets me the most is that they had the gal to keep James Earl Jones but not Jeremy Irons as Scar. Jeremy Irons *is* Scar. It's cool that they got more black actors just don't replace Scar.
For anyone worried that this rendition sounds dull, it is likely a version just for the TV spot. There will probably be different instrumentation and rhythm for the movie version
It looks drab to me by comparison to the original. I have zero desire to see any of these “live action” remakes. All I watched (unfortunately) was Maleficent. After that I decided these weren’t for me.
I liked Pete's Dragon and Christopher Robin... Then again, one was a remake of a movie no one really remembers, and the other wasn't a remake so much as a continuation, so... That probably helps.
I'm still disappointed that they didn't use to story of Sundiata Keita. He was a king of Mali and was known as the Lion of Mali. He was the human version of Simba and he was also considered as a real person too. The story is similar, but different from Lion King, but if anyone is interested on looking up the story, please do. It's very interesting. By the way, voice acting is voice acting. The voice is your audition, not what you look like and your race. If Samurai Jack can be voiced by Phil Lamarr, who is black, even though the character in the show is Japanese and no one bats an eye on it, then I don't care who voices the Lion King characters as long as the voice fits for their character. The designs of the new Lion King, they look like regular ass lions in a regular pride. There's nothing unique about the designs. Aslan from Narnia looks ten times better because of how they design him. Not only that, I can actually pick out the traits when I see Aslan. From only a picture of Aslan, you can see he's majestic, kingly, kind, fair, stern, but calm. For Lion King 2019, they look like lions in a nature documentary. Also before anyone says there is no such thing as a lion with black manes, there actually is. Lions with black manes have an ombre effect where it's dark on top, but lighter on the bottom. Why can't that be Scar's design? I know that males with black manes usually attracted females than the ones with lighter manes, but come on!
They want to make a billion dollars by remaking a beloved money-maker of the past. They have zero interest in education, uplifting, or facts. Let alone caring if the CGI design is perfectly perfect. Honestly, no one cares. It's a big dumb movie banking on big dumb nostalgia to make lot of money.
@@jazzwebster9851 Except the parts that make it based on every other thing Disney had ever done in the past in animation. There's is nothing even slightly "Hamlet" about it. Someone lied to you.
Guys are we morons if we end up throwing money at this movie when it's the same movie being copied and pasted? I mean CGI is considered animated, so why would we pay to watch the same movie when we have the original one?
I dont understand the appeal. Original movie had cute animal acting and talking like humans. This looks like Animal Planet documentary with added story and voice acting. Even I am terrified with some of the footage of animals, i can't imagine kids age 5-14 will want to look at it. It wont also appeal to adults since they have their own nostalgia with the animated movie. It wont even appeal to furries, because furries would fuck animated Nala but they woudnt touch an actual lion from African Savannah
As a fan of his since 2013 its so weird seeing him blow up like this. The dude is a writer, rapper, comedian director and singer, he's definitely an inspiration.
This might be a bad take, but I don't like the Beyonce part of the song. all thove corny vocal runs reminds me of the time Jamie Foxx sang the national anthem.
@@justbcause9179 theres more than one style of black singing. I dont hate beyonce, I like plenty of her stuff, but the word "tonight" doesnt need 17 different notes.
Troy Reyes I know there is multiple different singing styles. But in all reality you know that black people traditionally use more refs and runs then the average Caucasian person. No I’m not saying that there is no Caucasian people that don’t do the same thing I’m just saying black people use refs ,growls and runs more often, it’sit somewhat became a signature.
Apparently you did. Lion pride can't have more than one male there are times where the alpha line will kill the Cubs over another line but there are also times where he will adopt them there times when the alpha of one Pride will go in kidnap the lion cubs of another Pride. I think you should do a little more research before you make dumbass comments like this
@@RevengeOfThaNerd are you also defending the fact that Lion King was ripped off a African animated film made in the 70's and Disney just flat out denies it. And yes I am aware how a pride works however.... If scar was technically the king before Mufasa then all them kids he "adopted" were still his, which makes it that Simba fucks his cousin. Which has been confirmed by a few animators who worked on the film as unused script storylines because it would have been too long and dramatic. Ergo: that Mufasa dethroned his brother storyline. Mic drop.
@@nemomortis1866 You were wrong, then rather than being like, "yeah man. My bad." You introduce an entirely new argument, based off nothing I said or mentioned. If you were going to go that route, you should have at least used the animated film Kimba. I'm not doing this with you. Just take your L and have a nice day.
@@slibiz if you can sing, you can sing is true but doesn't mean you can sing in every genre. Ariana Grande wouldn't sound great on a funk/soul song because her voice doesn't have a certain texture.
Thats the major issue i'm seeing with these live action movies. Part of what made the originals great were the animations, expressions on the character, and they are just plain beautiful. These live action films are taking a realistic approach that looks dull in comparison and can't really catch that magic because the originals already exist. The only one thats really worked so far for me is The Jungle Book and simply because i've seen it adapted so many times and the darker tone makes sense considering the original source material had a darker tone (i liked the Netflix version, Mogli, more though). It was also different enough and not a complete scene by scene remake
You know you are in a minority when their films are making money. In fact, you can ask for a boycott and they will still makes money. As they say, loud minority, silent majority.
Well thank you for bringing that to my attention on the skin color of the 1st Lion King cast,Korey which I never gave a shit about. A black voice actress played at least TWO white characters in video games and she's great. Her skin color is no issue.
The Artist Formerly Known As.. Have you not seen Atlanta? The show that he writes and often directs? It’s one of the most original shows in decades. The average cut-and-paste artist could not create that from scratch.
Disney is really just rehashing everything and do it worse than original. Not just Disney classics like Lion King or Beauty & Beast but also Star Wars trilogy. While Last Jedi was a disaster, Force Awakens was just a bad copy of New Hope and New Order/Resistance is just a cringy copy of Galactic Empire/Rebellion. Disney is creatively bankrupt for at least couple of years now.
I get the doubt, but I'm gonna wait until it comes out. This is the same guy that directed the jungle book and that movie was very good to me. The only problem with jungle book to me was I didn't think that the songs were sung that well. At least this movie we know the voice actors can sing.
arkinyte13 o so even when they release films like coco, you still think its bankrupt? Check that definition. Also, you can always watch movies like godzilla and men in black if you want to. They are not forcing you to watch it.
The animated original was released 25 years ago today. So the marketing for the upcoming remake is buliding upon the nostalgia heavily and revealing little by little. Donald Glover on the other hand has got Simba on lock for this.
The song has always been beautiful. I have no problem with people "remaking" the song. I'm just not excited by a remake of the movie...as much as I like to see cute lion cubs.
Well, if early reviews are anything to go by, this might just the first Disney remake to date, by virtue of being a shot-by-shot remake with next to zero original content added that affects the plot or characters in a meaningful way.
God i know I'm in high school but my teacher's won't stop drowning me in remember hard work gives you skill so i guess that will help me to have a acting career
Wow so many people in this comment section really hate remakes that much But some y’all are still going to be there Opening weekend to see Lion King y’all finna give Disney money regardless.
I saw who the video was going to be about (Donald Glover) and other subject matter (a majority black cast) and knew the n-word was going to come into play. I wasn't wrong.
It’s like Donald Glover has somehow tricked everyone into thinking he’s a passable actor and singer. The man can rap and he’s great at sketch comedy but that’s it. Not hating, just saying it’s like when I watch Eminem act, he’s trying but real actors run circles around him. Same goes for actors who try to sing....Pierce Brosnan.
He’s no better of a singer than Will Smith (it’s mostly coaching). The difference is Donald is singing in a key that’s within his natural register. Will Smith singing in Aladdin was out of register, so it sounded a bit off.
The duet is almost as awkward as the one from Ed Sheeran and Beyonce from Perfect. Their voices sound atonal and don't match, there is no harmony. I think it's a big indicator that Beyonce and Donald Glover aren't gonna give very good voice acting performances in the movie, talented as they are in other areas VA is a totally different beast.
Think of what would have happen if Disney bought the rights to Kimba The White Lion. The release it and people will be complaining that it's just a rip off Lion King.
I actually thought he hated the TV spot lol I was about to say what's wrong with it but I get you now, why can't I sing like that I'm jealous too, I thought he couldn't sing good tbh but this TV spot proved me wrong
