Similar situation with my mom. But the other way around, she was sooo impressed with the new one, I spent the first half hour explaining my mom those are not real animals. She was trying to figure out how they trained the lions to act

Now I can give his mother a pass for confusing the remake for the original, since she's elderly. It's actually kinda funny. But anyone else younger than her and have enough common sense knows good and darn well there's a HUGE difference between both films. One is a timeless animated masterpiece that is loved and renowned by many generations. The other is a big-budget National Geographic. And a bad one at that. They may look the same in terms of story, themes and title. But that's where the similarities end.

I actually re-watched the 2019 Lion King movie on Christmas and when it first came out I despised it but after watching it again it's really not that bad. It's definitely not as good as the original and I still complain about it not being anywhere near as emotional but it's okay.

This proves something alot of critics and over sensative movie types overlook. When they say WTF are they remaking a classic, why make a game into a movie why make a anime into a movie. Not everyone cares or looks into things that much and they can grow fond of things easier than you. Lion king remake was nearly shot for shot and annoyed die hards, how dare they not change things, if they changed things...how dare they ill watch the original. But for someone like corey's mom...her idea of lionking as a kid was this translated into her mind. Like how FF7 looked like the remake in our heads till we look back and see how fuzzy it was or nba video games always look the same till you go play one in 2000s. Her head filled it in. She wasnt going senil or something imo i think she just replaced the memory with the new one and that speaks to how good the lion king was for non critical people.

I hate internet circle jerks for movies when in reality most are ok about stuff, the internet will have you believe people either love or hate everything. PS most of my family in the older bracket hates tech besides iphones and thinks its all doing "something" they wont tell me what. You get older to a point and just get suspisous or hate or dont feel you have the strength or interest for most things. Thats why its good to keep the lively spirit, and resist all those grumpy 25 year old men or women who are harsh critics on everything and anything and want no one to try anything out cause its all a hassle. Like we all have that friend that before they even watch a remake trailer, says it wont surpass the original. Alot of times the original is so great to them cause thats the last they were trully happy and not jaded cynical older people. You can be old and happy but most try to become unhappy. Thats why im happy corey's mom still finds joy in a silly cartoon movie even if its a remake that i thought her gen would hate. We gotta work on that memory doe.
