I was a member of this choir... I was the one of the smallest there and I still remember, I was just enjoying it as though we are just playing with my friends
I was a member of this choir, not anymore though, singing this song was such a miracle, even hearing our conductor say that we're now gonna sing it was so joyful.
Commenting from Nairobi, Kenya.. Grew up in the early 2000s, we did not have a lot of radio options. KBC is kinda like our BBC and they used to play this song first thing at 5am. My mum used to taunt me, just turn the radio and play it. The version we had contained extra lyrics (the lion never sleeps). My mum passed on when I was 11, been looking for this song all my life and finally found it today!!!!
European nations learn English (ESL) all throughout their school years. Especially in larger cities. And I would say most of these kids have had English training. Also, like others mentioned when I was in choir, we had to sing in Latin, French, German, & Spanish even though we'd never been trained in the those languages. With the gift of singing comes the gift to memorize the words and sounds in the lyrics. I can't recall any one of us having any difficulty memorizing the lyrics in Latin or other languages. We all embraced it enthusiastically. It's part of the giftedness of singing.
This is one of the happiest songs ever - and all the different jungle sounds are amazing and I so appreciate how much the different parts were explained - the base, the tenor, the alto and soprano but I also love the falsetto - truly a joy to listen to and I think a true masterpiece !!!
When I was a little girl I used to drive my mother crazy making all those same jungle sounds with my mouth. It kept my brother and sisters highly entertained. Especially when our mothrr started chasing me around the house.
It's cute but not the best I've ever heard. One thing that has always bothered me is that Lions do NOT live in the jungle so any version celebrating that part of the lyrics (written well after the original song) just sounds silly to me.
The opening of this beautiful performance is the closest thing we’ve got to a real jungle. Closer than the sound from any zoo. Just a talented blend of souls bringing a beautiful song to life.✨
David Weiss loves sound of the jungle and animals ! Taught the children to use their fingers to produce the sound ! The children did it so seriously ! It was Awesome! Thanks God Bless the children and David !
I showed this video to my friends, 90 & 89 years old, married nearly 75 years and before I showed them this, I asked if they remembered The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Hal said Oh lord yes, it was so popular in school when it came out in '60 or '61! They were floored watching this video and said this was the best version they've watched. They asked to watch it again 5 times as they loved this version.
Tami Collins I hope you find other versions they did a decent job - great on the sound effects but this def has been done better - they kinda sucked the soul out of it - possibly bcz they're a younger men's group, learning about technical vocal skills - rather than a seasoned group, who understands when to drop certain formal language in singing they'll continue to do better, if they keep practicing best I ever heard was Ladysmith Black Mambazo live - but their version is closer to the original, and doesn't have any words - you can feel everything in their voices - the English words kinda change the tone of its original meaning
Marvellous! I grew up in Africa and this song accompanied my youth. No one could sleep during our dawn choruses, and a walk through the bush late afternoon was often very noisy too especially if you were in forest areas.
Великолепная полифоничность , многоголосие , поддержка движениями . Узнаваемый колорит Африки . Вы создали атмосферу . Ну и наконец , пение , на высоком уровне . Браво Маэстро !
I am a librarian at a school in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I never get tired of showing and hearing this performance to my children in Preschool. It is so beautiful. Congratulations Mr. Weiss to you and the boys.
*_Sadly, I took ill in San Pedro Sula some years ago, ending my career in teaching. I have fond memories of my students in a very poor and most violent city._*
Incredible! This is a stunner. I can even imagine the initial practicing - all the fun these boys must have had when each had a go to their animal sounds. I really enjoyed listening to this. Very creative. ♫
Listened the original one? Sorry, but I love love love the original still better. Bur it was the 1960's the record came out and it caught me, hook, line and sinker, and is still the one to give me goosebumps and shivers every time I hear it, no matter who are performing it.
I would like to express my gratude, first to the God and, the amazing musical director, and musicians and singer to have giving us this lovely music of comfort, hope, hope and rest. May I encourage the young people you are creating mericle of hope, peace. Keep singing and heal our world.
