Hey, you can't expect a perfect course correction over night. It's a process to fix these social issues. I have confidence they'll perfect this model. Hang in there
These sarcastic channels are quickly becoming some of my favorite. I love when you can use the words of the woke, while making it clear that it’s all ridiculous.
To be fair, King Triton had a bigger character growth than Ariel in this movie. And that's what I always liked about it - it's not a movie just for the little growing girls, but also for their parents, preparing them for the day they'll eventually grow up
Triton was a bad parent because he was overprotective of ariel and the fact that he lets her go even she being her baby is a lesion for parents as you say
@@alfredogonzalezalfaro-oy5sz it doesn’t make him a bad parent Because of humans he lost his wife And Ariel looks the most like her mother, it’s the fear that got him You can see after he destroyed her collection he felt bad but stood by it because he thought that’s the only way he would be able to keep her safe .
@@iamnoone826 well i think that’s a bad parent i understand what you are saying but exactly he was doings something bad trying to do something good, i love when he hugs her at the wedding
Yeah it was triton’s story but ariel was the main character, kinda like mad max fury road. Started out as a pompous bigot, is actually happy his teenage daughter is in love with someone until he finds out he’s human, destroys all her collectibles is a bit of rage and immediately regrets it, shows true remorse for his actions, sacrifices himself for his daughter, and in the end learns to give up his daughter for her happiness and overcomes his bigotry to unite both worlds. Perfect character arc
To bad that all those animators are gone now , disney can't do such movies anymore even if they want ,cause they dont have the people who made them anymore .
I was born a male redhaired in the early 60's and when I got married my wife and I had three redhaired children. I never wished Superman, Ironman or Batman had redhair for me to concider them the favourite superheroes of my childhood. It must be my "white privilege thing" that allows me to appreciate people for who they are and not for the colour of their hair or skin. I had followed Will Smith (until he turned into a dudge bag!), Jackie Chan, Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise for years now and yet they look nothing like me! I have asked my children about who they follow in social media and their response is very similar to mine and yet they are in the new tik tok generation, are all non redhaired people so different from us? If so, I never knew!
When born into exceptional superiority, you have no choice but learn to relate with those inferior degenerates, as our excellency is just not represented anywhere. It's simply too rare to be replicated in any art: music, theater or cinema.
Sir your wordplay is phenomenal. "Autonomy is not automatic for you and me", "Out with the white, in with what's right" are such gems. I'm considering actually getting them tattooed.
Because original has magic that new one ruined. I saw this movie as a child and find everything perfect! This movie doesn't need unjustfy diversity. When father is Hispanic see kung has daughters of all kinda nationalities. Pallette of monochrome from super light to super dark. And guess what see king was cheating then! That is message in new. But in old nobody question infidelity of see king. Another question is Eric mother? Maybe Ariel his half sister? And there incest? That is a reason why Disney did everything correct.
I mean in 1989 everything is perfect while new gives a lot of questions. And the most aweful thing Halle did not show any character Ariel was. She is like different by look and character mermaid.
@@AlexandraRammstein Actually, even withput the remake, it's still an issue, because Hans Christian Andersen is rolling in his grave by now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YjUh8oIyQuU.html
Glad I'm the only one. I have seen various videos referencing the remakes and the originals, but this is the first one where I was like "I really ought to go watch all those again as an adult". Maybe its because he added a relatively large amount of footage from the real movie and that just reminded me of a lot of parts I forgot.
The shark? A great white. That was too good. Well done. At least they kept Ursula white. Wouldn't be a film for modern audiences without a white villain.
@@icepicjoey you should’ve seen the final pitch animation done with crowdfunding. The 3 minutes of hand-drawn animation would have sent chills down your spine. It was beautiful. Just makes you even more sad that it would be turned down.
That was beautiful!! All my repressed patriarchal tendencies washed away in the shinning lights of diversity, inclusivity and equity!! The shame will make me a better man. Thank You Woke Paradise.
This guys satire and editing is pretty impressive. Seriously go look at the entire vid again, the amount of work put in is pretty crazy. It is non stop frame to frame commentary.
@@TedEhioghae Well... Its actually both. It IS satire since he is narrating and citing Woke narratives and ideology. "Satire means making fun of people by imitating them in ways that expose their stupidity or flaws.".. And it becomes Sarcasm because "Sarcasm is insincere speech."... The videos them selves are pure irony since he use Woke narratives in a mocking way that is globally agreed on, when the creators intended them to be taken seriously. "Irony describes situations that are strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected. "
In anticipation for the new and improved version, I watched 1989 original, and I was shocked with everything wrong with it! The whiteness, the patriarchy, no gay characters. Why Ariel couldn't be a boy of color who wants to be a woman, in order to be with a lesbian princess? The remake fixes Ariel's race but to me, it still doesn't seem progressive enough. I hope they further fix it until it premieres.
I find it extremely offensive that they felt the need to recast Ariel as a person of color. Why couldn't they have made a black mermaid with a new story and new adventure? Or better yet take a story from what's a rich culture to make something special and new.
THAT is exactly my issue with this movie. Why make the iconic red-headed Ariel into a black mermaid? Why couldn’t they write a NEW character that is a black mermaid with a new story? I have NO issue with black main characters in movies. I do take issue with changing an iconic character into something completely different for the sake of a woke agenda.
Yeah. To hell with this outdated and worthless 1989 animated piece of junk. It deserves to be banned and rot in.....DAVEY JONES LOCKER (thunder crack).
Part that makes me applause in joy : - When the Sea Kaijuu try to munching up Ariel and says " Sounds i got an ice cold Sushi for breakfast " - the part when the chef turns Sebastian into spicy sichuan crab
You’re right. As long as it is still called *The Little MerMAID,* it will always be problematic because it is still perpetuating the myth that non-male humans exist at all. The w-word became hate speech the day Helen Reddy died.
I don't know who writes your lines....but my goodness. This is like poetry. No rhyme in any track hit harder than all the things you said. This was a one line master class. You do great work my man.
Fantastic how you made a sarcastic commentary appear to sound extremely serious! I can see this film bombing in the Box Office because they have effectively race-swapped Ariel and there are too many "alterations for a modern day audience" in there. You know things are already going south when Disney labeled the negative reaction to the trailer as "racist", yet we all know the proverbial would hit the fan if a prominent character of colour was replaced by someone with white skin.
You are an absolute treasure. Please never leave us. You really WOKE me up to all the injustices and toxic messaging of older movies. I need you and have a fear that any of these videos I see will be the last.
To be fair, what kept Disney afloat during the latter half of the 1980s were their films released under their adult-facing label “Touchstone Pictures” like “Splash”, “Ruthless People”, “Down and Out in Beverly Hills”, “The Color of Money”, “Three Men and a Baby”, “Good Morning, Vietnam”, and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.
Is there any praise of *The Little Mermaid* that isn’t also a slam at *The Black Cauldron* et al? Maybe failure is the best teacher in this case, but if that’s the case, then, why did they dismantle the infrastructure of the theatrical animation department to turn it into just another clone of Pixar?
You know... for a woke movie, to NOT cast a drag as Ursula should be the actual insult. The original disney ursula WAS made with the drags in mind but couldn't put one because of the restrictions of the era. So... Even as a woke view, this is a disapointing movie
Back in the time period the movie takes place, it was perfectly accepted by society, especially where they were both royalty. In fact the odd part about it is Ariel was 16 and Eric 18, where irl in that time period Ariel would have been married off and having kids younger than that and Eric would have been a bit older, so it's actually pretty tame
In 1987, “Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre” had an episode of “The Little Mermaid” where the titular mermaid Pearl is *21 years old* (as opposed to 15 years old like in the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iMuBPz4O5Oc.htmlm37s
I honestly thought the casting of this movie was hateful internet trolls just trying to stir the pot. Then the trailer came out. DIsney is done. Let them do what they want. They are already dead.
Lmao great white. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the black fish though! Haha this movie is deeply, deeply intertwined with my childhood and the nostalgia is very strong with this one. There are only a few shows/movies I feel thus strongly about and this is one of them. It makes me miss being a child so much. I want a splash remake,, that is actually good! !!
Omg i gonna repeat myself... like always: Why tf this channel has so little recognition?! This is unacceptable! MSM really doesn't like any criticism, huh? And as always RU-vid agree with them...
Frankly, for all its sarcasm, this video captures the fundamental problem of the movie. Fortunately, subsequent Disney offerings like Brave, Mulan, Frozen, and Beauty and the Beast have proffered much more capable female characters.
@@woffles6765 Sounds about right. Which is why I'm not against this new remake from a story perspective. I will add that the animation visuals in the trailers are pretty awful.
There is one genuinely problematic thing about this movie though and it has nothing to do with skin color, white privilege or any of the common woke agenda stuff. Its the fact that Ariel is only 16 years old and is put in a situation where she has to marry an adult man a short time. Now I realize that some places 16 year is considered a legal age of consent, but its not like she is demonstrating exceptional maturity for her age in this movie either. Her naivety gets her into so much trouble throughout the movie and its clear she hasn't matured enough. If there is one thing that really outta be changed about the original I'd say age her up to 18. Everything else I think could be fair game.
It’s possible to portray the little mermaid as an ADULT WOMAN instead of a teenage girl; in addition to “Splash”, there’s “Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre” episode of “The Little Mermaid” where the titular mermaid Pearl is *21 years old* (as opposed to 15 years old like in the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iMuBPz4O5Oc.htmlm37s
@@Attmay Yea and what do people across the world consider adults who date 15 year olds? Pedophilies. Even if its legal there, making Ariel only 16 years old is an incredibly horrible idea from a PR perspective due to people views across the world on this. And its not like she is displaying a great deal of maturity for her age either.
Thank you for taking all the complaints and hatred people have with this movie (something that makes my blood boil since this movie started the Disney Renesance and nowadays dismiss it as a bad movie), mixing comedy and sarcasm into the mix to take away something that makes me frustrated, and make it funny. 😂 Thank you. Keep it up.
I am an artist I love the original Disney classic animated the art was amazing !!!!!! I think this was the standard you have artist who put so much PASSION and love into the characters and the scenery I HATE HATE THESE LIVE ACTION REMAKES they could have used the PRINCESS and the FROG and make a billion dollars everyone loves that movie but instead RACE and gender swap me being black and white I DON'T want HOLLYWOOD to pander to me I don't need to see someone who looks like ME i want the classic shit to stay how it was
Please stop WOKING Disney. Why not give Ursula her own movie that would be at least different from all the remakes. I'd rather talk about why so, many remakes.
I really liked your insights! The one thing that I think is lacking here is LGBTQIA+ representation. I am very disappointed in this! Maybe they will make the prince gay? A man can dream.
Well that wouldn’t work because Pocahontas is a real life historical figure, so it wouldn’t make sense for her to be white. Also, Ariel is a mythical creature.
Please don’t think I’m an idiot, but it took me a minute to realize that this guy is being completely sarcastic but once I realize that I am laughing my behind off, I freaking love it.
The girls who played Ursula and Vanessa are one of the few things I enjoyed in this film. The scenery was also gorgeous wherever they filmed this. BUT it still doesn’t beat the 1989 classics
All of these live-action remakes will never achieve the magic and beauty of 2D hand drawn traditional animation. If they re-release all of the classics in movie theaters, i would definitely watch them again in the big screen. These live-action remakes look soulless, bland and forgettable compared to the animated worlds counterpart.
They missed an opportunity not having gotten Dave Chappelle to do his white-face voice for Sebastian. 😂 ... Come to think, that really would have been amazing. 🤔
Ok let’s start diversifying medieval Europe and forget colonialism and slavery didn’t happened in the timeline. I’m over the timepieces. Modern or futuristic films from now on cause at least diversity makes sense.
Azriel was the princess I disliked the most. I couldn't understand why she would give up the sea and life as a mermaid to be with a prince she didn't even know. It was just odd to me. I also saw some handsome mermen so not sure where she was looking 😐
Same! I’ll admit I’m biased because my favorite movie mermaid is Madison from “Splash”. It’s weird how “Splash” PREDATES Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” by five years because “Splash” feels like a response to the criticisms of “The Little Mermaid”. 😂 Madison is more headstrong than Ariel, since she pursues her human boyfriend Allen ON HER OWN VOLITION, unlike Ariel who only went to Ursula due to being traumatized by her father King Triton destroying her collection of human artifacts since it’s clear that her love for Prince Eric and obsession with human culture would never be tolerated under the sea. Madison is more resourceful and self-reliant on land than Ariel, as evidenced by *the mute Madison teaching herself English from watching TV for six hours so she can communicate with Allen; Madison being able to skate in one try despite never being exposed to ice;* and *Madison convincing the construction workers that in exchange for her necklace, the construction workers will bring the mermaid fountain up to Allen’s apartment because Madison knows how much the fountain means to Allen* (either Madison has really good negotiation skills or that necklace is worth as much Rose’s “Heart Of the Ocean” necklace from “Titanic” 😂). Madison is physically stronger than Ariel in terms of *rescuing Allen from drowning no less than THREE times throughout the movie; swimming hundreds of miles from Cape Cod to Liberty Island, so she can be with Allen; and fending herself from military divers in the finale (e.g. Madison uses her tail to hit the divers in the face and crotch; Madison rips off the divers’ masks, presumably drowning them; and Madison rapidly swims in a circle in order to disorient the divers with her bubbles).* Madison not only seem to be more in charge of her own sexuality than Ariel, but also Madison can kiss Allen as if it’s the most natural thing in the world to her; contrast that with Ariel who doesn’t bother trying to seduce Eric, let alone get a kiss from him (at least not without Sebastian teaching her how to kiss and flap her eyelashes; and not without the musical intervention of Ariel’s animal friends). And that’s not getting into how Ursula slut-shamed by calling Ariel “the little tramp”. 😬 It also helps that unlike Ariel who spied on Eric from afar and was convinced that Eric was the one for her despite knowing nothing about him, Madison had already met Allen when they were LITTLE KIDS, and even though the two never shared a conversation, being underwater and all, the young Madison could still sense the young Allen’s KIND, LOVING NATURE towards her as evidenced by *Allen reaching out his hand for Madison to grab and Allen staring happily into her eyes.* Yes, the prologue in “Splash” is very much a “love at first sight” scenario, but it’s meant to show that Allen and Madison were destined to be together, as they both waited 20 years to reunite as adults and consummate their love. Lastly, unlike Ariel, Madison doesn’t give up her world to be with Allen on land, but rather ALLEN gives up his world to be with Madison 🎶under the sea🎶 .
Sigh, people like you just don't understand what Ariel was going through. She didnt just leave for "a guy". Actually, she left out of spite. Her father punished her unjustly by destroying her collection of human stuff and just like any other irrational teenager, she rebelled. Triton was also at fault that he couldnt explain to Ariel why he dislikes humans. We could say he's kind of a racist and Ariel's purpose was to open his mind about humanity and that not all humans are evil - Eric for example. Remind you that she already got curious of the human world way before she met Eric.
@@nukita718 True, but it was Ursula who took Ariel’s love of human culture and made it all about Eric, since Ariel’s dreams of becoming human can only come true if she kisses a guy she barely knows. It’s not bad faith criticism. Just bad writing. Perhaps the 2 hour long live action remake will put more emphasis on Ariel’s love of human culture since the animated film treats it more like an afterthought after she falls for Prince Eric. Besides, if Ariel wanted to go to the human world, why didn’t she go to Ursula earlier in the film? Why did it take her falling in love with Eric to finally decide to go to Ursula? And before you say it wasn’t Eric, but Triton destroying Ariel’s stuff that caused her to go to Ursula, it’s important to note that it was *Ariel blurting out her love for Eric that caused Triton to go ballistic.* The reason people like the OP tend to focus on the romance as opposed to Ariel’s love of land is because the movie puts more focus on the love story than Ariel’s love of land.
Ariel is an anthropologist and gave up her voice for LEGS to explore the human world according to Ursla's contract she had to kiss Eric to keep the legs. People misinterpret the condition as Ariel doing this for Eric she did it for herself. Ariel just wanted to be in the human world it was only when Ursula gave her that kiss condition. Ariel was not against it because she had a crush on him and bravely saved him from drowning. it's normal for women to leave their families when they get married and start a new one. You don't get why she left the sea world because you're a human and prob don't find the beauty of the human world as she did. However, I do wish in the sequel they made her an active anthropologist or some archeologist/researcher
@@beethovensfidelio Ariel seeing her dad so pissed and unsupportive made it clear that she couldn't ask her dad for help so she went to an alternative Ursla out of rebellion and desperation Ursla framed herself as a good guy and when Sebastian and Flounder try to warn Ariel of the trap the eels seal their mouths. Ursula sends the eels to ruin the plan after Ursula sees how close Ariel was to succeeding in the contract. Tritonn dealt with the trauma of losing his wife in an abusive way and made. Ursula was her last choice. If Triton was supportive from the start trust the whole movie wouldn't have happened. That's why Triton acts as the protagonist in the movie.
HCA died in 1875. He would be ABSOLUETLY HORRIFIED and DISGUSTED with what DISNEY has done to bastardize his tale. Hey DIZNEY, stop messing with History and stop attempting to update original masterpieces for the sake of a small, ignorant segment of society. The vast majority of people you are trying to assuage with this dribble, 85% at the 8th grade level according to Winsome Sears, the BLACK LT Gov of Virginia, cannot even read, do Math, or think critically. Merit is not in their vocabulary.. In 2019, The Nation’s Report Card from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) found that just 15% of Black 8th graders were at or above reading “proficiency.” About half didn’t even reach the “basic” reading benchmark. That has been recently updated in 2020 to 17%. Now that is progress, right?
The Disney animated film already ruined the fairy tale by having Ariel marry Prince Eric thus removing the necessary tragedy and morbidity of the story.
Option 1: Take black african mermaid folklore and create a new franchise. Hire black african authors and black african directors, too. Option 2: Take existing black mermaids from Disney's very own already existing portfolio like Gabriella and create a whole new franchise with her as the main character. Or even make crossover movies with Arielle and her. Option 3: Take existing white characters (i.e. Arielle) and just race-swap them into black. Disney: "Easy. Option 3. Wokies will praise us for it and we don't have to put any effort into creating original characters. Hahaha. And if someone doesn't like our methods of lazy race-swapping we just throw arounds some dead-end arguments like sexism or racism. Money Money Money Money!!1"
