Just wanted to let you know Eric's eyesight was probably damaged before the ship sank as he got stuck right next to gunpowder being blown up by lightning and the fire that already started. So this is why he can't see Ariel's features
Completely disagree with Ariel doing nothing in the 3rd act, she saved Eric by killing the eels and additionally tried to strangle Ursula. Eric had to be the one to "save the day" for Triton to change his views.
The little mermaid the used to show early Saturday mornings like before 7... when you guys mentioned the show that thought and the feeling of early Saturday mornings nostalgia just came over me.
This was before Beauty and the Beast but Allen Menkin and Howard Ashman worked on both. Part of That World is similar to the "I want" song, which is a staple Howard believed were critical to Broadway shows, in Little Shop of Horrors which they had done recently.
THANK YOU! For pointing out that she doesn't "give up her voice for a man". She's obsessed with the surface, but has always known she will never be able to experience it the way she wants to. Its just a fantasy. When Ursula offers to make her human she's baffled and skeptical. Its not an option she thought was available. Ursula didnt put "want to be a human?" Flyers up at the market. Then she makes a connection with her True Love. I've always seen that as finding your soulmate or other half. You have an instant deeper connection to this person and they both obviously felt it. What do people do to find love? And thats just regular but still wonderful love. To find someone to share your life with is something most of us want. To find the person that fits with ypu like a puzzle piece is magic. Thats why the idea of True Love is used in these stories. They are the epitome. They are the absolute happy ending. There may be hard times but that bond will never be broken because you will always work thrpugh it and be there for one another. There is no divorce in True Love. No: one of you is struggling and the other doesnt know how to handle it and one of you gives up. Or one of you is tempted at work by "other options" and let it go too far. You have found your person to travel the path of life with. Ursula asks for her voice as payment so that Ariel will fail. She knows that Ariels voice is the strongest connection Eric has to her. And that communication is a lot harder without it. She belittles the usefulness of her voice and says what she needs to say to distract Ariel in order to get her to agree. People taking what Ursula says as a "bad message" that needs ro be corrected is idiotic. Of Course Its a bad message. Shes the VILLAIN manipulating someone when they are vulnerable. She has just had this breaking point in her relationship with her father, she found her true love who lives in a place she can't access. Her dream has always been to experience the world above. Shes emotional and probably has a million things going thru her mind all at once. I've always thought Ariel has some pretty bad ADD. If you try to put yourself in her head space and imagine you have a passionate impulsive nature her rash decision probably makes a lot more sense. She seems to have gotten herself in trouble for being impulsive and forgetful before but she has such a bright exuberant personality people still love her. She's like an actual complex person with faults and strengths. Eric and Ariel's other interactions although limited on screen prove that he values her voice. Not just because it will prove she is his dream girl soulmate but he wants to get to know her more. He's conflicted because hes fighting what he feels for Ariel because he is still hung up on the idea that his dream girl is out there. Its probably confusing as hell for him. He seems to take the idea of commitment and having the right person really seriously. But the person he thinks he found is just a hazy memory that hes spent weeks looking for and everyone keeps telling him shes not real. This movie is tight and every facial expression, scene, dialogue, and note of music help to tell the story. They don't show you everything but they certainly lead you to the path so that you can understand that there is a lot going on between the scenes we are shown. This movie is excellent at building these characters with limited screen time. I probably understand more about the type of people these characters are than most recent movies that are twice as long. I also seem to want to understand the way people work and what makes them who they are a bit more than others so maybe I pick up on these things more. Watching it on repeat as a kid helps too. I think most people don't watch movies with their brain on. We are so used to media holding our hands throughout our media. Or the dialogue, character development, or plot don't make much sense with any scrutiny so in order to enjoy it you have to turn thought off like a zombie. 😢 I never mean to go on like this. Yelling into the void.🙄😁
I honestly never got the mindset that its a "girl" movie.. why, because its about mermaids? Honestly imo, from an artistic standpoint, its probably one of the most beautifully made pieces of traditional hand drawn 2D animation thats ever been made, period! You can tell everyone on the team poured their blood, sweat, tears, heart, and soul into creating this piece of art!
Triton is definitely over joyed that Ariel is in love. The possibility of it being a human would never cross his mind in a million years. For undestandable reasons.
I think Triton is completely lost and desperate to keep her safe. In his mind she's obsessed with the equivalent of a violent biker gang that is known for enjoying murder. If he has his wife he would have more of a balance, a female perspective, and all the pressure wouldn't just be on him. Maybe Ariel wouldn't be as obsessed with the surface with her mom around. I don't think she would be a completely different person, but these types of things can have a huge impact on us. Being a single loving parent... And running a Kingdon is hard.
Ami me van a comer por lo que voy a decir pero Ariel del live action tiene mejor desarrollo que la ariel de la animada en fin muy buena la peli 🤴🏻🌊🧜🏾♀️❤️🕵🏻♀️
Watching this getting ready for tomorrow seeing The Live action Little Mermaid. I have seen such mixed reviews. But I can’t wait to see it. Thank you guys for posting this so nostalgic to see the animation version. How am I 27 ?! 😞😂🩷
I always get good vibes watching this movie but wow! I realized how much they fleshed out in the live action after rewatching this! The live action was amazing!
