All the people I talk to online similarly trash it. So who on Earth is seeing this movies? I guess it must be the kind of people that I don't interact with - those that are mature enough to not think it's childish to see a Disney movie, but who are still too immature to not care about the art of animation.

You're kidding yourself if you think a KH movie wouldn't appeal to people. The Disney Ambassador Hotel not that long ago had KH-themed rooms for it's 20th Anniversary.

Well, Disney did say they want to come in with a big splash with this remake and leave everyone surprised. But compared to how The Super Mario Bros Movie is winning in terms of hype and marketing, Disney isn't doing a job in that and I'm one of those people who is speculating that this remake will squish the original like a bug due to how people look down at the original film as problematic over the years (with the main criticism of Ariel being a badly written, passive, and unlikable damsel in distress who sold her voice away (and doomed the world) just so she can be with a man).

@@thatHARVguy Yeah but don't leave out how she died. She tried to sew her legs back together and return to the sea, but ended up drowning. The Little Mermaid is a beautiful Disney film but it's a horrific story at its core.

YES, and the main characters tail is the worst one. I am sure someone SOMEWHERE would love to make a nice looking adaptation.

What was such a waste was not using the tail designs from the mermaids on Strangers Tides. Those designs were simple and had an elegance and the movie directed by the same person as the remake: Rob Marshall. Personally I think the best practical mermaid tails was Hook and Aquamarine...

I don’t want to see Disney adapt anything anymore. They make trash nowadays and they’d no doubt ruin it. It’d be better to have it adapted by some other studio.

The remakes would be alright if they could actually thought of as their own versions of the stories, but these new ones pretty much only "update" the visuals. The Jungle Book at least was a different take on the story

Second, do they not know that real life can be very bright and colorful as well? So many unaltered photos and video footage that people took of various parts of the world have proven that not everything about reality looks like your typical Zack Snyder film.

Well, the original Lion King was the highest grossing animated movie of all time up until Toy Story 3 (I think), so it makes sense that people went to see it for nostalgia. And to it's credit, it looked great, so the same people who claim Avatar is good surely loved it.

@@charley300they’re doing neither. That news was announced in 2020. It’s been three years and nothing has come from it. Disney probably brought the rights so no one else can make a film version of it, because it would clash with this nightmare. Disney is an extremely manipulative company and purchases things to ensure that it’s doesn’t interfere with their films.
