UPDATE: This movie has since been confirmed by more reliable sources like The Hollywood Reporter (linked in description), but the point of this video about the spread of rumors and not taking things at face value still stands. People shouldn't assume until they know. I'm making that second video on what problems this movie is facing. I know most people know better than to believe rumored headlines when they see them (especially since almost all of my viewers are 18-24), but I saw some reactions to this rumor saying "I keep seeing this, I'm starting to believe it," and that compelled me to put this investigation together and show what we actually know. I hope people won’t get so excited so as to make Dreamworks actually consider this. HTTYD is the last trilogy I am connected to that hasn’t been totally exploited yet by remakes and spinoffs. I’d like it to survive, but we’ll see what happens I guess.
I hope it stays alone too. I still don’t think it would be ruined, the originals and the good will still exist. But there’s no need for a remake, spin-off, or live action counterpart.
no no no.... the httyd series is one that i love a lot and my absolute fav forever and we've seen bad spinoffs already(nine realms), so i dont want more spinoffs or sequels to ruin the series the series is done and more spinoffs will just ruin the orginal magic of the series
I absolutely hope there is no live action remake. HTTYD is so awesome because it's animated, and uses that medium well. Especially the flying and fighting scenes - I can'timagine that looking so good in "realistic" CGI. And toothless communicating and expressing emotion via body language also will not transfer very nicely to live-action. Also: I'm absolutely delighted by your editing, the way you're adding those movie snippets seamlessly into your talking really helped the video being entertaining. Good work!
I agree, I can’t see it working well. That will be the focus of my next video (if I go through with it). Thanks about the editing. The Sherlock Holmes movies are some of my favorites and I happened to just rewatch them. I think of the dialogue a lot (some of which is taken straight from the books), and it fit perfectly here. Same goes with that Pink Panther clip. So many articles could be summarized with it: “Let me bring you up to speed. We know nothing. You are now up to speed.”
I’d recommend at least trying it. I didn’t expect anything going in, but I really enjoyed it, especially the characterizations and the perfect casting. As for the music, it’s a great Hans Zimmer score with a really eccentric main theme and instrumentation. It has a lot of banjo, fiddle, accordion, and out of tune piano, but they still sound great together. The background music in this video is actually from the score. I unfortunately have to agree. The only possible way it could work would be to do something like a pg13 version (so dragons can look maybe more scary and not like an irl cartoon) and have it focus on a timeline that doesn't directly mirror a movie. A spin off live action MAYBE, MAYBE could work (SLIM maybe). I don't think a remake live action could.
I don’t think even that could work. In fact, I don’t know if Dreamworks has any animated movies that would be really fit for live action outside of Prince Of Egypt which is a biblical story.
I think this is the only live action I would be excited for the first httyd is one of my all time favorite movies. Him stating he hate remakes and they disappoint him... as so they seem to do with 75 to 80 percent of people who watch remakes makes me think well maybe this is an opportunity for him to nail it and get another 99 percent rotten tomatoes score and break the box office. If this is the case that's the only thing I can really hope for. A remake in my eyes is a remake maybe not necessary word for word and scene by scene but sticking to the script, and important story scene that make that movie... including music. Maybe!
He didn’t say he hates remakes. He said sequels tend to disappoint him and feel unnecessary and while he respects the work and talent that go into remakes they feel lazy on the part of the studio. Why make the same movie again? I don’t think he cares about getting 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, he cares about making a good movie and good story. But he does not seem interested in remaking HTTYD.
The rule of thumb is, if one of the major trades reports it (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, etc.), it is most likely true. If not, the best way is to ignore it. Otherwise, you can easily fall into a rabbit hole like this. Great video, though! 😉
Excellent video, with good movie references! I've believed, and still do, that it would be wise not to dwell on these rumors. From my experience, it usually ends in disappointment. Zelda was rumored and leaked to be releasing 3 remade games for the Switch a couple of years ago, but it ended up only being the first 3 games on a special NES-looking device. Was really disappointing to see. Would have saved a lot of time and hopes if I didn't dwell on it.
HTTYD is a movie that will stay on the animated side of movies. I cant see a live action version working out anywhere as well as the animated series has. They've ended this franchise on a beautiful note, I just hope they dont pull a fast and furious and make more as cashgrabs and ruin any characters we've grown to love
