Am I the only one who always thought David never returned in the end? That he is forever doom to be single and never belong. Maybe I'm too cynical lol always saw it that way especially now knowing of Yorgos Lanthimos's works. Feels like it's time for a rewatch.

No you are definitely not. The end kinda reminds me of Inception, you dont really know if the top stops spinning or not. It's so well-thought out and frustrating at the same time to leave it to us lol.

Definitely not alone, I had to watch this movie 4-5x until I got the meat and potatoes of it. I used to be disappointed with it's ending, but over time it's about the best he could do given the mood. As far as addressing the finer points, definitely unlike some other "popular", or cheap reviews..just take the easy route and say it's " poorly made"! How the f*** is that possible considering the lobster already has a die hard following..not like The Big Lebowski, (excited for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?😅..still have to see Napoleon, hasn't come down yet, kids movies, horror open the same night as in the US, Canada, yet they get picky on from what I hear is Phoenix rocking Napoleon!) Anyway, yeah, we all found (me today 2-10-24, Santa Cruz de la Sierra 🇧🇴 Bolivia... finally a great review..and from the comments I see, about to blow up. So catch him now before he gets busy, and a 50$ superchat is needed(Michigan Football boards, 〽️🏆🟡🔵..don't hate me! )Just saying the very people i and a few others kept loyal to, make a point to read a comment, but an extra special effort when I send $10-20, I'm on a budget! (It's a nicer part of Santa Cruz "distrito Ubarí"..hence $) That's 12 claimed, got to admit if you followed, these kids went through some (19 recognized, share unlike"certain" others, although 3 for sure could be claimed with zero problem, most publications give us 19, some 12, some 16..it's very sorted) anyway I'm kidding, but anything positive would not surprise me. Glad you got to enjoy the same!

GREAT fascinating analysis, as always Lucas!! Such a mind-blowing film that just stays in your mind and keeps you thinking about it for days, weeks, months after... as was The Killing of a Sacred Deer too, and gosh doesn't he get great performances out of his actors too, or perhaps he's just brilliant at casting the right actors for the part!! Can't wait to see Poor Things!! The Lobster was the first of his films I ever saw, so I'm curious now to delve into his older films, because as good as all his more recent films are, none are as metaphorical as The Lobster!!!

I love your analysis and videos so much! I definitely agree with everything you said. I also think its possible the hotel trying to find them a partner represents your family and friends constantly trying to set you up, especially once youve just gotten dumped. I think ultimately their hearts irl are in the right place. But the pressure it puts on the single person adds so much stress and anxiety and adds to the pressure already put on you by society. It was a little too inaccessible for me as it went on but after hearing your analysis, it makes all the sense in the world what the movie was trying to say. It was still a bit much for me but I can totally appreciate the art in it and the depth of the storytelling. It falls in that category of “movies that are masterpieces that I didn’t really like but respect a ton”. Thanks for putting content like this out. I am living down in Santa Cruz de la Sierra 🇧🇴🇺🇲 Bolivia, I'm actually watching the Lobster as I write this, obviously stopping it to see if I could finally find a descent second opinion...(Is Netflix just bad, seriously any answer would suffice, or are there different tiers..bronze, gold..ect, using my sister in law, cuñadas account from Spain) well my friend you have an INCREDIBLE ability to break down one of the best, yet ambiguous movies I have seen within 10 years. We all, assuming someone here is a Pink Floyd fan 😅(I had too!) should have caught on fairly quickly the basics. Until now, I have heard a lot of radical, dumb, or just unsatisfactory attempts to not only explain some minor scenes and possible meaning... even say The Lobster is basically a piece of sh**, I assume out of frustration! Since this is my first message of gratitude, it may drone on a few more sentences. How can a movie I like and many others with good taste like an art movie so much yet have nagging questions. Because it is a decent film. Anyway, the reason for hunting loners, with tranquilizers.. which I used to believe was some half measure link involving the death penalty or something else..and its possible link with our "deal" is much better to see the successful hunters as you say, gain acceptance being single. Excellent. I'm still shady on the tranquilizers. Though obviously this is a film where one must suspend disbelief in order for the story to flow. Especially how easy it was for .."C.Farrell?" without knowing how to transform the heartless woman, supposedly did so. I always assumed after a few views that she had been turned into a rabbit. The animal no one wants to be, hunted sure..by just about every non herbivore. Still there has to be something worse, but "Rachel's" favorite food gives this idea a possibility, as she may have already may have eaten the woman. As you said the loner society is quirky...I still do not understand why having sex, a virtual impossibility to abstain obviously would have to be done under the punishment of the "red intercourse" if caught. At least 6 nagging issues were answered beautifully, meaning nothing more than it fits perfectly! Any minor things, his brother for instance, I suppose brain capacity is not transplanted! Leaving the question if these, supposedly we are to believe, animals were indeed once human at all. Surely "limp guys" mother would have intervened with any attack, especially after being seen time and time again. His brother, he believes it, though I guess any ability to communicate with him via code, or other ideas. The biscuit lady pretty much will take anyone just to get out of there. Yet either was not "suited" to John C Reilly who surely could have made an "arrangement"..step 1, fake it, get out. Just like the superficial girl with blonde hair, obsessed with it. It's unknown whether she, with her angry reaction to her friends farewell letter..was actually in love with her? And/or once again superficial reasons, as "Colin F" gives her a reasonable shot to avoid her fate , apparently becoming some kind of pony, or something with a main of hair.. supposedly after her last requests the next day. Either an excuse, the reasons above or just superficiality led her to accept becoming an animal other than even grinding through a marriage of convenience. The age bracket was also a brilliant observation. Explaining better his desire to be a lobster is one shared (at least the perks, and the question is as you said.. would it be worth it in their world or ours?) by others had they thought longer. Unfortunately we have no idea if Colin ever was able to communicate with his dog brother, if able to retain some memory and self awareness could have (playing with a ball does not rule out any traits that could be his brothers, just now basically either dumber and/or the canine need to play with a ball either is partly or mostly, if at all..his brother. The first screen was obviously important once again, this was important that you pointed this out, as she knew exactly which to kill. This is where we suspend disbelief and attempt to decipher the story as is. I'm almost done😂. Remember when they fixed a lock on his belt or pants? For other than not jerking off, (and I would assume female guests are equally prohibited and hindered in some way from masturbating)...if the reason was to keep his d*** in his pants, 2 problems arise. Going to the bathroom!!! The whole idea crumbles anyway if I push rewatch and see if he has a zipper... either way it was a challenge to get his pants off.2) the zipper if so would not prevent masturbating. Supposedly John C Reilly had a photo of a naked woman on a horse. That was all the proof needed to burn his ...off hand or jerk hand 😅. For guys, ladies as well, I grew up with girls, women of each teen to 21 marker... Invaluable...usually if you're right handed, the left is your "worker bee". Though I wonder why if the 45 day hotel is supposed to be aligned with our perception...why they would act as 12, 13 year old kids, accusing or ostracized, in this case tortured with a toaster. Around 15 we all get the deal. So why the emphasis. The freaky loner leader also seems to have high connections in the city..I wonder if that factors in some way. The odd mimicking as she grabbed the former hotel maid and used her as a shield from "Rachael's" rage after being blinded. Although she was blind, why hold your stomach and act each moment before the supposed death, the leader may have figured was fair. I also wonder when he speaks of Greek islands or Italy if the same structure exists in those countries? Supposedly filmed in Ireland, France? Maybe Brittain. As some here believe, and this is where Ill stop for the sake of all.. apologies! I personally don't believe he just left her there, though...cut to black as he's trying to find the nerve in the bathroom, therefore why bother if his plan was to ditch her? No, but one thing I always assumed was either he did or... decided to pretend to be blinded. Someone needs to get around he may have reasoned...with incredible accuracy! Also the narration stops well before this. Prior she, "Rachel" had had something to say up until her second from last trip to the city, her "appointment" being the last...no narration for some time. Leading me to believe this narrative comes after the fact, and some cryptic words indicate that they are or we're, successful no matter the price. Other than "where do they get these rent a kids from", and at what age is one supposed to find a mate? Is there a limit for elderly people who may have to return to the hotel several times in a year! Maybe considered a burden, maybe a separate deal for a wishful death, be it partying like a rock star within a 45 day period dying either from that, or assisted suicide samurai deal..some might just want to fish for 45:days, other things that are risque or not. Since again, I noticed that the oldest there were the "owners, or warden types" at the hotel. Clearly there is "grade school", though no time I guess for that, or the "rent a kids" (could be orphans) it's true that the guy with a limp.. according to his timeline, had 3 days to grieve for his fallen wife, and right to the hotel...not far from reality. Get back out there they say, only time is cruel in this story. Anyways...... excellent review, you got a new subscriber, and actually can minimize my next inquiry!😅. Thank you very much!!!!⚡

Could you please make an analysis video on The Social Network? This movies stands out in Fincher's filmography as it is not a crime thriller or has those gory elements. I know the themes such as friendship and betrayal have already been discussed several times. However, there are a few other things in the movie which I could personally relate with. The Lobster seems to be the Lanthamos movie I return to the most. Its probably in my top 5 favourite movies. On a side note, i think David's struggle with the sexuality question wasn't necessarily a case of him questioning his own sexuality but trying to assess which will more benifical for ensuring his survival.

@lucasblue20 10 месяцев назад
Thank you!! And that’s a good question, it’s totally subjective whether he did or not for sure but I always find my interpretation of a subjective ending through my thematic interpretation of the whole film. So based on my thought that the film is about true love existing in the very most superficial world, I would say he did do it. True love would lead him through any path to get to his partner, no matter how superficial the culture. But that’s just my take. I could see someone putting up a really good argument the other way as well. Nonetheless, thank you so much for watching!!

This is fantastic!!! I always wondered why he asked if the other lover wore glasses as opposed to if he always wears burgundy shoes. Being nearsighted represents their decision making capabilities. They cant see too far into the future so decisions are made without complete analysis of how the consequences of their actions may affect them and others. I feel that hunting the loners represents the people in real life, while having the option of falling in love and leaving the hotel to pursue the mundane routine of everyday life and subscribing to the opinions of strangers to become the fact of themselves, they choose to find individualists who can live on their own without conforming to the way society insidiously mandates life to be. They "hunt" them down because it represents what they divinely lack: content at being unique while never being lonely and having the capacity to accept that life isnt just about working, stock options and retirement. Simply put- the capacity to accept themselves for who they truly are... the UNKNOWN. They dont want to leave and they dont want to stay... and that is not an option. I also think that David does return but now that he's blind he is creating two new dimensions to his new identity: the new journey of love and a life of being completely blind. If he returned quickly it would reveal a level of intelligence we hadnt seen before in his character development. This correlates to him being near sighted. They both couldnt see too far into the future with what sight they had and now its completely gone. He doesnt need to see to live because they both will never regain their eyesight again. He now has given himself a lifetime to develop and curate his true love for her and vice versa.

Independently of your excellent analysis, it always catches my attention how in the US it's so normalized to get married in one's 20s, 😁 which is unintentionally revealed several times in your own interpretations (for instance when you assume that the singles of the hotel represent the people in an aceptable age to find a partner, which according to you, are people in their 20s!). In Europe, it's far more common to see as normal to find a definitive partner or get married in one's 30s. Even in Latin America, that's more and more common! So you Americans seem curiously traditional in that specific regard. It's a cultural thing that always surprises me.

To me, he never returned to Rachel as her allowing him and wanting him ("all the other remaining senses become more heightened" as a selling feature to him) to go through such a horrific act, meant that she was not his soulmate. Just like the husband that pulled the trigger on his wife in an earlier scene, Rachel was selfish.

I've written more articulately about this before, but The Lobster has always felt like a good metaphor for how I often feel as an autistic person. We're capable of love, undeniably, but the rules and regulations which society expects us to adhere to, in finding that love just aren't made for us. The Loners definitely read as a neurodiverse rebel group using this reading!

This is such a fresh observation, and it’s cool how we can kind of see where we fall in this parallel world based on our personal qualities and experiences. So glad you added this!

Your movie reviews are great so helpful on my deep dives into strange movies. But are you talking this way on purpose m. These long dramatic pauses and over emphasis on words. Its cringy. Is it possible to do these reviews in your normal voice. Cause there moments in these review where you talk at a normal pace and less emphasis. Please and thank you

I mean, I think I understand the universum of The Lobster. It's just for me seems eerily unrealistic. Given how we evovled it seems fo me it strays from relaity too much. I mean dont get me wrong but if your life was at stake it would get hell more intricate than what they portraited in the movie...
