Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. ru-vid.comUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa
Not sure if this has already been mentioned. But the product shown on Amazon for folks that have NO existing doorbell wiring is super simple, and 1000% works. Drilled a hole through the brick mold fished the wires through from behind the door casing and voilà. I’ll hide the rest of the wires behind a baseboard. it looks like there’s nothing there and took me maybe 2 hours. A good portion of that was due to our house being built in ‘41. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for taking your time to give this a thorough review. I like that you had more than just one day to review this, hence the thoroughness. Keep up the good work especially around this busy holiday season. Thank you sir
Found your channel while searching for info on HomeKit doorbells. It convinced me to make my first HomeKit purchase. And helped me out after the fact with the information to sign out of iCloud and back in to get notifications to work. I've viewed a few other videos and find them to be top notch. Thanks.
Hi! I just wanted to thank you for this! I looked at a lot of instructional videos for this doorbell and frankly I was terrified of installing it myself. I've installed three other brands of video doorbells, but this one looked like a LOT more stuff. But your video made me feel like maybe I could do it myself, and I did! Li'l Ole me! Now I've got a great HKSV doorbell and it works great! Thanks so much!
really good video! loving the doorbell so far! connected with no chime, just used my doorbell wires, upgraded it to 24v...works perfect, hooked up to all my homepods, really love the Apple TV integration! when it over heats, has done that for me a few times, it will shut off and tell you, once it’s cool again it turns back on...bought a shade for off etsy, hopefully that will work...if not will have to move it to a cooler place...keep up the good work
Thank you! I appreciate you sharing your experience with this. Glad to hear you were able to set it up successfully with no chime. I've also thought if making shade somehow for the doorbell would work for those in direct sunlight. Hopefully it does. Good luck!
Great in depth review. I had mine for a while but I haven’t installed it yet been lazy. I have a Ring Pro with HomeBridge that’s working like a champ. While people are complaining about landscape view I am looking forward to portrait. With my Ring I cannot see packages at my door so the new aspect ratio will be something I’m look forward too. The only other trade off is no local options or continuous recordings like Ring does with a time lapse. This isn’t perfect but it hits a lot of check marks and the price isn’t bad at all. I have two Echo Shows that are about to get the boot with this new doorbell. But I will say this this the Apple TV and HomeKit is a game changer. When people saw whose was at the front door when the doorbell rang; people almost lost their minds lol.
1 month review. The camera goes “off line” at least twice a day. Mine happens to be mounted in a covered area with no direct sunlight. The temperature is fairly moderate here in Northern CA. This seems to be a very common problem. After one prolonged off line episode, I restarted my Apple HomePod mini, functioning as my HomeKit hub. That did get the doorbell back online. However, the problem still persists intermittently. I took the camera off the baseplate to reset it. Unfortunately, the little retractable tab on the bottom of the doorbell is stuck now and I’m u able to mount the device back onto the base plate. I’m in contact with customer service. Hopefully they take care of me. Otherwise, I like the doorbell and how it functions with HomeKit. It’s got snappy performance and the video is sharp. I really like the portrait aspect that the camera uses. Update: They took care of me. They sent out a new unit without any hassle. Been using it for a while now and so far so good.
Latest update. Doorbell is back to going offline. Sometimes it comes back on, sometime I need to reset my hub and router. My Eufy cams and all my lights and switches work just fine, so I know it’s not my hardware. Nor is it due to bad signal.
I really wanted this doorbell. But my neighbor got one and it could not handle our Texas weather. It will go off-line several times throughout the day and night due to the heat, even though it was not in direct sunlight and on a covered porch. So if you live in a warmer climate would not recommend.
Tight! Thanks to your discord for that awesome work around! I wanted my doorbell in a different place since I have a mother in law section that I converted to office space but thats where the doorbell is and I wanted to move it. Seemed really complicated since I am no electrician, but with that fix AY! Thanks a ton! Just got mine today!
Thanks Shane I just moved to South Carolina and I have to start all over making my home smart the first thing I did was my circle view door bell and my smart lock next is all my light and fan switches
Installed this a week ago and it has been great. It replaced a SkyBell Trim 2 and it’s so much better. Love being able to access it from my phone, watch and tv. Only complaint is it’s very strong on picking up motion and haven’t found a way to turn that down. Great video, I am now a subscriber
Thanks Corey! Yes it is sensitive when it comes to motion detection. You can create motion zones, which might help, but I think that's all you can do for that.
Nice vid. Just bought mine and setting it up now. I agree the instructions from Logitech are easy to follow. Did anyone else struggle with unboxing? Lol.
We finally got this doorbell installed and am loving it so far, though its just been one day. Does anyone know if the volume of the chime on the actual doorbell itself that sounds so a person ringing it knows its working, is there a way to decrease the volume? It is not that loud but louder than I thought, so was just wondering. I have not found anything searching online about this. Searches only come up with the indoor chime features. Thanks for a great video.
I bought mine off of the Logitech site and got the HelloTech installation as well. However, the HelloTech that showed up had no idea how to install this and ended up leaving. I’ve got a friend coming over today to do the install and can’t wait to start using this doorbell camera.
Oh no! That's crazy, sorry to hear about that. I hope you put in a complaint with Logitech and get a refund for that extra $100. Even thought it's not really their fault , I'm sure they wouldn't be too happy to hear that the company they use for installations can't even install the thing. I hope you had better luck with your friend's help!
I'm using the Skybell video doorbell & looking to replace it so I can use it with HomeKit. I have no problems at all with the Skybell because it's very easy to install, use & it's also free on video storage.
Thanks Ben! I know many of us have also been waiting for Eufy to add HSV support to their doorbell. But I know what it's like to get tired of waiting for HomeKit support...
@@ShaneCreates not to mention the responsiveness with Eufy. I've had nothing but problems lately. Live View or Playback takes me up to 16 seconds to load when it used to take up to 7 (which was already a lot - with Great Wifi Signal or Ethernet) Fed up with it and the lack of HK support. I've sent it back for refund and bought the Logitech one from US to UK. I've got big hopes after watching your video and others. Can't wait.
Great video sir. Can you explain little more about automations when you press the door bell and lights came up? Evap app if I understand right? And how did you do it... Thank you 😊
If you have decommission home alarm system who subscription is no longer active but it is already plugged into a transformer, you probably can rewire it to work with the doorbell camera if you don’t have a doorbell. Lots of home have those abandoned ADT systems.
Great job Shane. I got my Logitech Doorbell in the day after your video dropped, so I was able to watch it before my install. My install went slick as two eels in a snot bucket. I was able to dis my 1st Gen August Doorcam (and $20/month subscription) which I have never really been happy with. The Logitech Unit with Homekit is getting the job done. Keep up the great work!
Thanks to this great video I got it and will soon go about replacing my four Ring cameras with HomeKit cameras. Privacy matters! A question, please: I don’t have a chime. How can I get this to play a song on my HomePod mini every time the doorbell button is pressed? The standard three dings are just not loud enough for my family! Thank you and keep up the great work. I’m subscribed!
Thanks Andres! Glad the videos as helpful and thanks for subscribing. It's a bit tricky with the doorbell to automate a song. First create an automation in a 3rd party HomeKit app, like Eve or Home+, for the single button press (the native Home app doesn't allow automations for doorbell button press). Just choose a device to control when the button is pressed as a placeholder. Then go to the home app and find that automation you just made. Remove your placeholder and then choose your HomePods and choose what audio to play over the HomePods when the button is pressed. Hope that makes sense!
Great video man! The Apple Watch integration is really neat, I could see that being useful. I wish they had a battery powered version, it would be accessible to more people. The Apple TV integration is sweet!!
Had mine installed 2 weeks - from the start, when plugged into usb, it was going offline. Went ahead and installed, thinking it might just need the wiring kit. Just the same. It gets *very* hot even in the evening. It is installed under a porch. Opened up a ticket with Logi support 2 days ago. Awaiting a resolution. Update soon. When it is working, it is great.
It sure won't work in Canada if -4 F is the lowest temperature it supports. In fact, most of the USA also goes below -4 F at night for many weeks of the year.
Shane, excellent video as always. Quick question... are you still getting rich snapshot notifications on your Apple Watch from this and any other HomeKit cameras? Somewhere along the way, my Apple Watch stopped that and is only giving text notifications. I used to get them with my Circle 2’s but not anymore. Eric Welander also reported that he’s not getting rich snapshots on the Apple Watch with this video doorbell. Unpairing and re-pairing the Apple watch didn’t help. Thanks.
Great job as always! I love that they aren’t looking to bleed another monthly subscription from you. Wondering if Eufy is going to add HSV. Heard anything on that?
Thank you!! Yea I've heard that Eufy does plan to add HSV support to the doorbell. And they've done it for other cameras, so it's definitely possible. But there has not been any timelines confirmed, so no telling how long we'll have to wait for it.
Can you make an automation that when you approach the doorbell yourself your face gets recognized and the door will unlock? Would be cool to have this for family members.
That would be awesome if we could use facial recognition in automations. Unfortunately that is not possible right now with this setup. Maybe one day...
Eufy 2k wired has similar specs, but an add on chime can have alternate rings. If it was HomeKit compatible, then the pairing with their cameras would be great!
There is a real downside to the temp issue. If any sun, any sun hits this, it will overheat. I have some Ardoin’s and Poe switches and had to go to industrial versions vbecause the box containing these things in the Vegas sun hits over 150 during the day. This camera is rated to 110 (which again in Vegas can easily be hit just as ambient temp, let alone the sun hitting it directly). So I’m afraid this is gonna be a no go for a lot of people. Already hearing rumblings in the various places of people having this issue now (and it’s winter in North America). They need an industrial version (it can be done, electronics that are made to work at high temps)... and I’m sure this isn’t relegated to the Logitech, that this might be an issue with all cameras that work in these extreme temps. Oh and once again., thank you for your video. You really have become the go to place for all things hk. Thanks you for all you do.
Thank you! I appreciate the support. I agree. The temperature issue is a huge downside and unfortunately, may be the reason many people end up not being able to use it.
I had same issue with notifications only coming to my device and not my wife’s. After troubleshooting I realized I needed to update her access to the doorbell via the Apple HomeKit settings. (Not the doorbell settings) When you go into the Apple HomeKit settings, click the user’s name (wife) and you will see option for doorbell access for notifications.
Good stuff Shane. Pretty sure one of these is wrapped-up & waiting for me to open on Christmas morning. I’m really kinda concerned about this temperature sensitivity nonsense. I’m in the Midwest, so ambient temps are not extreme...but my front porch is in direct sunlight for much of the day. Thinking that it’s going to be fine right now, but June-August are probably going to bring some issues. It’s making me re-think installing it. Anyway. Thanks for the great review. Have a Happy Christmas!
Thanks Brad! Should be a good Christmas for you! Yea, I agree, the temperature/direct sunlight restriction is probably the biggest concern with this product. I guess time will tell just how much it can withstand. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
I bought this, installed it and it works for a fwe minutes the oes offline. I have a Eero 6 5GHz WiFi network which I can temporarily set to 2.4GHz, but then it goes back to 5GHz. When this happens is when I believe the doorbell goes offline. Had to turn off notifications and basically not using it. Thinking of buying the Ring or Aqara.
Shane you can do door chime different audio in automation settings with volume adjustment also!!👍 I have my SimpliSafe door bell setup with that and also turned on and off at certain times of the day in the home app
Hey Shane could you making a video using a plug-in wall adapter instead of the existing doorbell wires? Would be useful in a house with no doorbell wiring
Hey Shane :) hope you see this. I recently bought this doorbell to replace my actual ring camera, I thought the same cable who is powered by a transformer plug in at the wall will work but no apparently doesn’t have enough power to get the Logitech goin on. Do you know what I can use to get it power? Been looking no lucky. Thanks good content!
This is the first video I watched for you then immediately subscribed. 2 issue speaker as you stated and notifications I hate having to unlock my iPhone to see the video or snapshot Thank you
Shane, thank you for all the videos. They have helped me a lot in my journey in converting my home to a smart home. Just getting started and love the couple things I have done so far. Got the Circle View Doorbell and installed it a couple weeks ago and it has been working fine. I am now on vacation and it is turned off. Anything you can suggest I do remotely to get it back up and running. Although I have a monitored security system, I still depend on the doorbell as part of that security and it really bugs me that it just turned off while I am not at home.
Hey Jeff. Sorry the only thing I know to do is to reset it, which I usually do by disconnecting it from power for a second then reconnecting it. You might could try restarting your router (if you have remote control of that) and see if that helps. Other than that, I think you need to be there physically.
Great video. I am excited to drop my ring doorbell that always says i have a bad signal, and becomes sluggish and has poor quality. I will miss the ring community aspect but am willing to make the jump. I do wish there was a locking/securing mechanism for the doorbell. A sim ejector is a bit of a joke.
Are you able to link the motion detection of the doorbell to the motion of the circle view camera? Like the Ring system can. Also is the Hoobs still the best system to connect Ring to HomeKit? Trying to figure out if I should switch to Hoobs or Logitech products.
I know this is an old video but I wanted to ask you what door bell are you currently using. Another thing I wanted to ask is if you can set an automation so that when some I set comes to the door it automatically unlocks.
I recently switched to the Ecobee doorbell so I could test that for a video (recently published). To answer your other question: no, you cannot run homekit automations based on facial recognition unfortunately.
Yea, makes sense. The vertical orientation works great for my setup, but I understand it's not the case for everyone. It would be nice if there was the option somehow.
@@ShaneCreates I finally got mine and got it installed. It was a little tough though. For one I had to upgrade my transformer since the original one I had was only 10w, so that is something to watch out for. Also my Wifi set up has both 2.4 GH and 5.0 GH. The Circle View door bell kept trying to jump on the 5.0 GH and kept going offline. To fix this I had to set up some settings to force it to stay on the 2.4 GH and that fixed it. If you do a follow up video for the door bell you might mention some of these things my friend. Have a great one.
@@BobBunch-ownyourlife Thanks for sharing that. Glad you got everything working. I haven't had any issues with mine going offline and it does connect to the 5ghz band. But there are various factors that could probably affect that.
Well, Logitech does claim that yes, you DO need an existing wired doorbell and compatible chime. But, as mentioned in the video, some seem to have found ways around this. But that is not officially supported by Logitech. Here is a link to their compatibility checker: setup.circleviewdoorbell.logi.com/#/electrical-compatibility
Shane, great videos. I just rewatched this one and wanted to know if you’ve gotten the light sensor to work within Automation yet. My use case is to utilize the light sensor to actually trigger my lights, which I expect will be better than Sunrise/Sunset for when the weather is cloudy, raining, or worse. The only other HomeKit light sensor I’ve found is the Fibraro, which doesn’t appear to be receiving good reviews as of late.
I’m an iPhone user and starting a HomeKit home. Problem is my wife is an android user. Is there a doorbell for HomeKit that also has an android app for my wife to see door?
Hi Shane, thank you for this review! Two questions: How do you tell the camera which door to unlock when you press the button on the apple watch? Could I configure it to open the garage door instead? Does that button also pop up on the phone or Apple TV or exclusively on the watch?
As always, great video! I am using the Nest Hello with the Starling Home Hub. This is a step in the right direction, but the camera quality on the Nest is hard to beat, and I get most of the features of HomeKit (minus the HomeKit Secure Video) with the Starling integration. I hear they are even working on HomeKit Secure Video, according to their site. This is a pretty close competitor, but I may have to wait for them to improve upon the camera and design a little before I take the leap. Are you still using any of the Circle View cameras in or around your home?
Thanks David! Yes, I'm still using a Circle View (and even an older Circle 2) with homekit secure video. I've been very happy with them. The Circle View cameras, including the doorbell in the short time I've used it, have performed great with HSV for me.
Shane: Merry Christmas to you and yours. Useful video for all of us. Here is some comparatives based on your review and what I already have. I already had Arlo Pro 2 cameras and decided to take up an offer on the Arlo video doorbell. Sometimes, I wish I hadn't though. Why? 1) As the Arlo cameras had Homekit compatibility via the Arlo hub, I expected the video doorbell to follow soon. But, it didn't. And, an Arlo hub only supports five cameras so, mine is maxed out anyway. 2) The time delay from someone pressing the doorbell, until I get video on my iPhone or iPad is twelve seconds or more. Too long! People will have often walked off the porch by the time I answer. This defeats the "live" video and conversation uses. 3) For full functionality, I have to subscribe to Arlo Smart @ $2.99/mo just for the doorbell. To have all five cameras and the doorbell ups that to $9.99/mo. Too much for this service! 4) It's just as easily removable as the Logitech. And, neighbors in this area have actually had thieves steal their outside, internet security cameras. As the devices are recording the event no less! Of course, our local PD doesn't find the recording of value or interest in pursuing the perps. And, finally, 5) I have the notifications on 24/7 as a security measure. Which means when the neighbor's cat comes up on my front porch at 1:00 AM, my iPhone X, sitting in it's charging cradle on my nightstand, notifies me of the intrusion with a loud "ding". I really wish people would keep their cats confined to their residence. Just like dogs. ;-( Nothing's perfect I guess.
Hey Tom, thanks for sharing your insight. I am not a fan of Arlo's subscription model. I don't think they will ever support HomeKit Secure Video because they rely on it so much. And yes, 12+ seconds is definitely too long for a doorbell notification. Sorry to hear about it. Hopefully you find a better solution in the future. Again, thanks for sharing!
We took out our chime during a renno. We do have a hard wired doorbell. Bought this, installed inside with the USB and worked perfectly. Pushed the wires in until it was stuck and connected the doorbell. Never got a light or anything. Any one have a tip or suggestion? Any reason I can’t just use my wiring and skip the chime step? We are okay with just phone / AppleTV notifications
Hi Shane, thanks for the review. Did Logitech came back to you regarding omitting the doorbell/chime circuit? I’m living in the Netherlands and about to have it shipped trough a friend out of Florida. I’m guessing (but not sure) Logitech will never give an official statement which approves to connect a 24v transformer directly to the doorbell. Keep up the good work!
Do you have problems with motion detection such as false alarms, activity zones not working. Another problem is when I set to be notified when “specific motion is detected”, I receive no notification whatsoever even when I walk to the door.
This was so very helpful! I've been scouring RU-vid trying to review the newest WeMo for HomeKit versus this one. I'm here in Texas so It does get hot, but I have a shaded front area. I just like the video quality better. Will the doorbell still work just as a doorbell if it does go off-line?
Thanks for watching, I’m glad it was helpful. Yes, if wired to your doorbell chime as intended, the physical chime will still work even if the device is offline.
Great job Shane. I really appreciate and like your work. Is there a way to mount the doorbell camera so it sees toward the side for a porch that has stairs not coming from the front.
Thanks Stephen. You can use the angled mounts that it comes with to give it an angled view like I've done. If that's not enough angle, you might be able to find a 3rd party mount made for the doorbell. I've seen some sellers on Etsy selling things like that.
Hi Shane...just found your channel yesterday, subscribed and I really appreciate your videos, style and expertise. I am closing escrow on a house on Monday and would like to start a HomeKit system. Probably will start with this doorbell. Question....I am not big on subscriptions. I have free 5G of iCloud, but if I don't subscribe then is it true I can not store any video and just get live view? Does free 5G store any? Is there anyway around this. I don't need to store much but would like to store a few days. Thanks so much. Looking forward to future videos and going back and watching more of the ones on your channel.
Hey Tony, thanks for the sub! You need at least the 50GB iCloud+ plan to have support for recording with HomeKit Secure Video cameras. You can stream live feeds without any plan, but for recording, you'll need at one of the paid plans.
This video help me make the decision in getting this doorbell. I’ve had it now for a little over a month. I have to say that it’s been awesome. It has not been flawless, as I’ve had the issues with “Doorbell Off Line” a hand full of times. Sometimes it last a couple of minutes, other times it’s been hours. This has happened at all hours of the day. Morning, Midday, and even in the evenings while I’m asleep. The last few time I’ve unplugged my modem and WiFi router. This seems to bring the camera back online and the issue has not happened for a while now. However I do have a question regarding response time, I have noticed that the response on the alert has a been very slow. For example I can see a delivery been dropped off, by the time I get the alert that a “person was detected” the delivery person has left the area. If the doorbell is rang it also has a delay or sometimes no response at all. Is there anyway to adjust the time it detects a person and the time it sends the alert? Not sure if this is something anyone else has experienced. Thanks for the video!
Hey Eric. Thanks for sharing your experience! I wonder if your slow response times, and possible no response issues, is network related? The better your network speeds, the better those response times will be. And similarly, if you are not on wifi, but on cellular, without a great cell connection, then that will also slow down the response time. Lots of factors to consider. But if you have solid wifi speeds, and your iphone is also on your home network, then you should not have those slow alerts.
@@ShaneCreates I think the camera off line does have something to do with the network. However, the response times feels like there might be something else. The reason why I say that is because I’m home on the same network as the camera. I’ve answer the door allowed visitors in and it will alert me a few minutes later. I’ll keep making notes to see how often, how long, and if it’s different every time. Thanks for your time and suggestions.
Have had the camera for 3 weeks now. Installed a transformer and ran a wire and don’t have a chime. Just use my HomePods and Apple TV. Really like being told who is at the door!
@@derekpickett9314 just skip the chime wiring and continue with the setup and once you have it connected to your HomeKit then you can tell it to notify you through some or all of your HomePods and your Apple TV will show you a live feed of the door when someone rings.
How do I go into Photos and tag people so that products like this can use that to notify me who it is??? I’ve never been able to figure that out. Do I need to go through every pic, surely not hey??? Do I pair that up with people in Contacts???
Hi Shane, Thanks for great videos, but Netamo has are doorbell working on Apple Homekit. Have you testet that, so you can compare it with the logitech?
Thanks Robert! A couple things to note regarding the Netatmo. One, it's still not available in the US. And two, while yes it does support HomeKit, it still doesn't support HomeKit Secure Video. So basically you can view the Netatmo camera's live streams in HomeKit, but that is all. No recording, no facial recognition, or anything else through homekit.
@@ShaneCreates That is of course true, that's not supported by Homekit secure. I didn't know I was not available in the US. Looking forward to the doorbell will arrived in Europe, since I already have the Logitech Circle 2, awesome gadget I have to say. Thank you for your answer.
Has there been any updates on your Logitech Doorbell since this video? I've recently found your channel after starting my switch to Homekit and succumbed to purchasing an over heating, constantly offline Logitech doorbell. Lots of owners are experiencing issues, and with past Ring and Nest doorbells never having an issue, I'd like to see if any influencers have. Thanks for the channel and awesome content.
Hey Mike, thanks for the kind words. I have also heard of many people experiencing these issues with the doorbell. Logitech does warn not to put this in direct sunlight... and they weren't kidding. I've been one of the lucky ones I guess, since I have very little direct sunlight on my front porch. I have experienced it occasionally as the weather has gotten hot. On a very hot, sunny summer day, mine may over heat for about 20 minutes, max, when the sun hits it just right. But it doesn't happen often since my porch is covered and shaded from the sun almost the whole day. Again, one of the lucky ones I guess.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks Shane for the reply. Unfortunately mine is going back, and my Ring Pro 2 is backup and fed into HK via Homebridge. I lose HKSV and face recognition, but for now I have something that actually stays up and will wait for more options to come open.
Thanks! I'm not sure if you can find that info. As I mentioned in the video, I know someone who did by using that plug in transformer, but that is not a supported method by Logitech. They say you must have an existing chime in order to use the doorbell.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks for the reply. I actually took the risk and hooked my existing 18V ~ 500mA AC/AC Adaptor to the back of the unit and it works like charm!!! Thank you for the great channel once again!
😎 There is not a GOOD video doorbell that works well on Homekit AND looks as good as the Nest Hello does. I tried the Logitech Circle View doorbell, but it was horrible on overheating, intermittently turning off all the time, and it's camera view range is not good at all. Have you found another solution you prefer that works with Homekit? Nest Hello is my only non-Homekit smart home product I still use, but I have the Starling Hub to put it on Homekit.
I've heard from many users having issues with these overheating way to quickly, even when not in direct sunlight. Have you had any issues like this? You're in a southern state, right?
Correct, I’m the south and it gets very hot. Haven’t gone through the mid-summer months yet, but we’ve already had many days in the 90s with high humidity. So far, no issues with overheating. Mine is under a covered porch, always in shade tho, as mentioned.
Looks awesome but the depth looks a bit clunky. Do you know of any reason that there would be issues with making a cavity in the door frame to install this so it is recessed?
