Yeah this song is phenomenal, Iron Maiden are the greatest metal band of all time to me, I still remember when this album came out I was 16 and was blown away by every single song.
I think all of the songs are equal Masterpieces, except Heaven can wait, which is still a great quality song,40's. but slightly below the others. Which is prefarable at a specific time depends on the mood
The harmonies at the end are amongst the most beautiful they've written. When I play them they make me shiver. I can see from your face that you feel kind of the same thing.
It is one of my favorite Maiden songs and it is soooo underrated. It is a collection of marvelous melodic and emotional riffs. It always gives me goosebumps.
those GK250 amps were the best part of this album. The guitar tone from them was amazing and never topped. They used a different model of the 250 for Seventh Son and it did not produce the power that this album has.... Great stuff they did then.

You enhance the beauty of this band by playing flawlessly ALL of their parts, I am astounded how you cover all of their songs in detail and analyze them with passion and care. You prove that Iron Maiden are and will always be the best. Their feeling, harmonies and melodies will NEVER be equalled, you find them in any of their songs.
They played it first date of the tour...there is something off in that performance, I think the toll on Bruce voice and the relentless drum taking over persuaded them to cancel it from the setlist, also because live they were used to playing wildly faster than the studio release. I also think The Loneliness was ahead of its time for the Iron Maiden fan base. I wish they played the whole album as they did with AMOLAD.

Absolutely fantastic cover as you always do, spot on and precise, I love this song and this entire album, Iron Maiden are so unique and so creative and persistent, they are so tight while in the studio and especially live. I read about the loneliness of the long distance runners and they really existed delivering important messages to distant lands and kings , absolutely amazing they were real people. From what I've heard.They only played it live once. In Brazil I think. There is a vid from a tour based on this album.But I think it only cover one or two songs from it.I remember a guy a knew used to have it. I remember Nico stating in a interview ,that it was a pretty tough song to do,cause there are so many pace changes.He really didn't wanna do it live. But I think the Iron Maidens have covered it

Wow! Great work! It’s strange, for some reason this song has always struck me as a Bruce penned song lyrically…. But the great Somewhere in Time was all Steve and Adrian (And one track from Dave with Steve). Anyways great song written by Steve here, and Great work by the whole band. Excellent choice Nico!
Can you tell me how Adrian, and yourself play that first sequence of notes, so Fluidly and still,delicately and melodically? when I hear it online, people always seem to make the nottes too distinct from eaach other and sharp, whereas Adrian makes each note flow from one to the other, but still eacha is clearly distinguishable; this gives tthe beginning notes a kind of otherworldly beauty. There is a live version, where Adrian does it with the same fluidity and delicacy, as in the studio version. I haven't seen anybody else manage this when doiing it, except "children of the beast" and yourself
If you're talking about the intro part, try dragging the second note a little bit longer that you might otherwise hold it. That will set the pace for rest of the phrase... It's that dragging feel that makes it sound the way it does.

one thing that no one ever talks about is string gauges.....what does Smith and Murray use and what do you use? ive always loved 9s for the solos and 10s for the rhythms
The string gauges are mentioned in the description of every video on this channel 😁 Here, I use the same as what the guys in Maiden play: 9-42 for Dave, 9-46 for Adrian, and 10-46 for Janick. Personally, I prefer 9-46 on Fender scale guitars and 10-46 on Gibson scale. Cheers!
I don't have tabs for any of this stuff. But you're basically going back and forth between a second inversion D minor and C major chord arpeggiated. Dminor: 2nd string, 6th fret. 3rd string, 7th fret. 4th string, 7th fret. Cmajor: bar the 5th fret on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings. I hope that helps!
For me Maiden is the best Metal Band ever....but i am not familiar with their newer stuff....my Maiden Time was from 1980 til 7thSon and i Know the Brave New world
