After surviving The Long Dark for 500 Days on Stalker mode...it's time to try the same on Interloper. There will be no firearms, looted hatchets or knives. We must make our own defenses and tools in order to survive this self-imposed challenge. It's time to see if we achieve victory or die a horrible death like everyone else on Great Bear Island.

The Long Dark Interloper is the hardest mode in Sandbox mode (The other difficulties are Pilgrim, Voyager and Stalker). The game describes that this mode is "For expert players looking for the ultimate wilderness Survival challenge."
In The Long Dark Interloper difficulty, you start with the most minimal resources, supplies are very scarce and Wildlife is rare, but it is more dangerous
- Interloper was a new game difficulty, introduced in v.364.
- The world becomes more hostile to you as you play. Global temperature drops, wildlife and fuel resources become more scarce, and Blizzards become more frequent.
- Apart from the Hacksaw and Hammer, which spawn rarely in the world, you need to create all your own improvised tools (ex. Hatchets, Knives, etc.).
- The best Clothing and Food items do not spawn.
- Wolves are more rare, but also more deadly.
- Wildlife becomes more rare over time.
- There are no firearms in the world.

Among the many things I was screaming at the screen about (LOL). In real life starving yourself makes no sense. Especially if you have scurvy.

Fresh rose hips contain a lot of vitamin C, so they share many uses with vitamin C including preventing and treating colds, flu, and vitamin C deficiencies. However, much of the vitamin C in rose hips is destroyed during drying and processing and also declines rapidly during storage

The fire symbols on the bottom of the screen are the new "cheat death" system. It basically means that you have 3 allowed deaths before game over instead of the usual permadeath. (this feature can be disabled)

I like the cougar but i wish there was more too it. Maybe as it stalks you getting a chance to see it in the distance or pawprints if you backtrack where youve been would make it feel real. As it stands i dont even think about it as i play i travel too much to get the affliction. Some of the cooking recipes are really high in vitamin c like thompsonville stew but it requires canned corn which you get from the bunkers from doing signal void. A lot of the findable items are locked in interloper like the rifle sling but you can still get the rare loot. If you complete all three of the tall tales you also get two different feats one makes you immune to cabin fever and speeds up reading and the other one makes you move faster at night during Aurora's and clear skies very good feats

It's not coming, it's already here. There's a head wrap you can craft with it. Looks very cool. Also there's a new knife we can craft after killing it.

One rose hip tea won't have a big effect (similar to one fish) but he can drink a lot of them. Cat tails has very little vitamin C. Acorn coffee doesn't have vitamin C.

Love the videos always and yeah courger not fun at all. Helpful advice when u catch scurvy always eat the fish says moderate VIT C cause eating the ones say minor will take for ever get rid of it no matter size of the fish it say moderate or minor. Also the specail fish that not normal can be used as bait cash bigger fish or suppose to . And the little fire icons are extra lives if u choose to not die but be warn u may end up way way from where u died.

The fires mean you can now cheat death 3 times. Yeah everyone seems to think that the cougar just popping out of nowhere to attack Will/Astrid SUCKS! I mean at least give us a one in a thousand chance to kill it before it takes us down. From what I have learned so far if you got the bow you got the least chance to kill it and that assumes that you are already at level 5 archery and fully kitted out!

I'd try to make Doc Worker's Pie if you can. It takes Potatoes, Salt, Oil, Water, Raw Coho Salmon, and Raw Rockfish. It should help with the Scurvy :)

The fires are the cheat death option. I find a lot of the new stuff a bit cheesy. Fun but not too realistic. The cougar just shows up out of nowhere.

Protection seems to help with the cougar. I had the ballistic vest and bear coat with a few other items for 84% protection and the attack wasn't bad at all. I lost about 1/3 of my condition but got no bleeds or infection or other debuffs. Just the condition loss. Wasn't bad at all. Idk what everyone is whining about.

So far what i seen and witness my self the infection and bleed effects are not guarrantted its just a chance that u could get it. The infection if u do is a pain cause u cant sleep normaly or u can die

The scurvy opt-out was on the initial screen. The first one was cougar. Then you had the white arrow on the middle of the screen which would take you to the scurvy option. Both are ON by default so when you selected the cougar and hit confirm button, you agreed to enable scurvy although you have not seen it. On my long run I enabled it, but did not contracted it immediatelly. I doubt they checked what you have eaten retrospectively. Maybe because my run is voyager.

im not sure what too think about scurvy ... i mean it makes sense (way more then cabin fever) but... still... i suppose they want to make the new foods and fishing more attractive but i think thats not the right way to do that... cougar... i mean... its a big kitten and kittens (no matter the size) are always the same: they want cuddles, food and play so... time to build some kitten toys :D yeah the whole getting bad inside a container really needs a rework. its just stupid that clothes or canned foods and stuff deteriorate inside a container and get deleted... i mean the deleting thing is nice but... yeah some items should not loose condition just because you store them away. and if rose hips or mushrooms dont loose condition: why should clothes, cured pelts or cured guts loose condition? i think its about time they rework and rethink that system which shouldnt be too hard since all the mechanics are already implemented. well. looking forward to the next one. i kinda want to see the big kitten but... could end up badly for you so... we'll see. keep up the great work

If you will eat only so much fish to make it through the night (the starvation tactic) it might take you over 20 days to cure scurvy.

You are correct! I figured this out on Part 58, I decided to try to constantly keep chowing down on fish instead and it's moving quicker now.

I can't speak to the game, but, in real life you'd be crazy to not pig out on vitamin C. Scurvy is nothing to fool with especially if you're alone. Vitamin C doesn't do your body any good if you don't eat it. So I wind up screaming at the screen LOL

@accurize2 According to some redit posts (only source I could find anything on) I'm pretty sure the 3 campfire icons are part of the new cheat death system, 1 campfire represents 1 life/1 chance to cheat death. Just shows you how many lives you got left

Scurvy is no joke. Stop rationing and fill up on fish and tea. Not maintaining well fed doesn't make sense as it is but especially not with scurvy. Those camp fore icons are from the cheat death mechanic. Hard agree with you on the cougar. I deeply dislike the implementation and will not be risking an Interloper run for it.

Shouldnt deer have. the moost vitamin C? Fish dont have that much vitimin C and or what they do have its destroyed by heat. A deer you can atleast eat the liver of which to my understanding has a decent ammount of vitimin C.
