It feels like Misery mode was borne more out of a desire to bring difficulty through "flavor" and storytelling. Sure, they could have just cranked the difficulty up on everything from loot scarcity to wildlife aggression, and people would have been happy enough. But there is merit to saying "Here it's not just the world that is against you, but your body and soul as well." It truly is survival against *all* odds. I wish they would have leaned into that more and refined it/tied it in better. But I really appreciate it for what it is.

Loving the series. Don't forget about a magnifying lens either at the camp office, Trappers, or the fire tower.

I think a common mistake with misery mode is treating it like Interloper +. I only observe from watching but players are looking for interloper spawns for items with resulting indignation. Maybe once it is understood as its own mode it will be more fun.

I definitely agree with your general sentiment about misery mode. Seems a little cheesy to me overall but it’s still an interesting mode and a fun series👍

When I first played misery mode I felt hella lucky when I found matches on a dead man at point of disagreement in pleasant valley. Without then I would've died to the blizzard that came through. Though as someone who never even attempted interloper or stalker. I didn't know matches were a big deal.

Carrot above 20% condition has 0% chance of food poisoning and the chocolate bar above 20% condition has a 1% chance of food poisoning. Only raw(50-75% chance) and and cooked(3% chance) meat above 20% condition has a higher chance to cause food poisoning. Its not that risky. :)

In this mode, the game doesn’t just try to kill you, but it literally kills you without options, it’s like there’s a timer... no matter what you do, even with your health restored, the dabuffs will ruin you.

Are the Misery options available in custom settings yet? Would be cool to be able to have Misery settings without the afflictions and see how long you could survive in that mode.

Mystery Lake is an interesting choice when lacking match should be fun. I think Hinterland tried to get creative when making a harder mode when the easier choice could have been used. Take a NOGOA settings and crank it up. Colder world, less loot, more aggressive wildlife, faster drain rates, faster deterioration rate on food/clothing, eliminate skill books, and so on. Misery isn't a horrible idea, but why reinvent the wheel when you could just improve it?

Although you keep saying you will reserve judgement, it is obvious you don’t like the mode. This can be a self fulfilling prophesy. Also why didn’t you light a fire with the flare and chain torches from it?

What if in misery mode, the worse your condition is, it effects what affliction you get and how bad it is?

Be careful leaving food items in containers. If you leave for a while and they drop to 0% they will disappear. Doing great considering no matches yet. Good luck in the next one 😀

I'm not a big fan of interloper and this has less loot. Not a fan of work your but off for minimal gear
