I bought The long dark while ago, I updated it today, I lunched the game it opened as build #2.25 126227S then when I choose to play Wintermute it take me to my desktop and then reload an older game version and get me in to the staring screen with #2.08 125148S ?! Why is that exactly? Is this normal? So that means the newest features in the survival mode will not be available in Wintermute?
I honestly have the utmost respect for you and the team at hinterland , you all are amazing developers and you actually listen to your fans as to what we wanna see added and then you go even further and add things we never dreamed of such as the flasks Hope you all have an amazing holiday when you go and that you all remain in good health the remainder of your days
I'm not gonna lie, I am most excited for the safehouse customization - can't wait to see what that feature will look like, whenever it actually comes to our games :D
The same here! Coming back to my cozy safehouse it's a amazing feeling, but being able to change the interior a bit...would make the game so much better for me.
@@cloudedfreedom6286yes because they are slow af. literally a lone Modder added hand coverings over a year before this update. go and look at the progress road to vostok made in 2 years, a game made by a single man. all this stuff their adding he has added and more before release by himself in a game that is much more graphically complex than the long dark (that has a full dev team)
I'll take a blizzard over electrostatic fog any day! As if getting turned around and lost in the fog wasn't terrifying enough, now I have to worry about aurora animals! Lol! This game is by far the best and is the only reason I own an xbox.
The aesthetics of this game are still some of the best I've seen. Love to see the continued development of the story, and enhancements. In time I'd love to see you figure out how to make seasonal transitions happen, and come up with a totally new story/ location that carries forward the aesthetic of the game.
I liked the idea of the Grand Canyon or death valley as a long dark game. The color palette would shift from gray white and blue to orange yellow red and brown as well as having to worry about hot temperatures. With the painting like art style I think it would be a cool concept.
I've been playing since the first year of early access and I just wanna say that you guys are incredible. TLD is probably my favorite survival experience to date, and you guys still put so much work into it after all this time. Enjoy a well deserved holiday break!
I think I am also most excited for the hand/arm coverings. Seems like a weird thing, but it really will be a big step in immersing myself in the game. Long Dark does gameplay immersion better than almost any other game I play, and know the visuals are further supporting that. Looking greatly forward to this update, as well as safehouse customization in the future updates.
you know, i used to joke as an Albertan about this game being "my backyard simulator" but the toxic waste and pollution is starting to hit a bit too close to home LOL. keep up the great work team!
@@cloudedfreedom6286 Okay four months of Brutal weather followed by 6 pleasant months. I guess it’s a change and adds to the variety. For me there are no seasons. 10 months pleasant + 2 months hot here. So it’s all new like the Long Dark!
I saw a candle by the flasks and got SO EXCITED! But didn’t hear anything about them.. I’m sure it was a mod. Please, please bring candles to the game! Either way, this all looks amazing. Thank you all for building such a beautiful and thoughtful game- one I haven’t gotten tired of playing for years.
@usurperstears Yeah, being able to use those as a lighting substitute would be nice. Maybe animal tallow candles? It would be good for lighting a dark safehouse. Plus, a match being used to light it really won't leave a dent in your survival capabilities. Maybe they could add certain types of candles that give minor buffs as well for harder difficulty games.
@@Ventus9666 animal tallow would definitely be cool, I’d settle for just premade store candles to be found in places. Hell, I’d even be happy if they just made the actual fires you light indoors throw more light
@usurperstears True lol, the fires don't cast much light even with the bigger stoves. Maybe a mix of both types of candles honestly, I just kinda figured that tallow candles could be a bit more sustainable in the long term or on greater difficulties where resources aren't as plentiful. But that's what I love about the game, it has near infinite potential and I see it staying alive and thriving for a very long time
You are such a dedicated developer. All the passion you stuff into that game... it's unbelievable! My BIGGEST dream has now come true: gloves :D this will add so much to the immersion
I don't care how small an adjustment it is, I am SO happy to see hand coverings. I've played this game for years and years and that little thing has kinda bugged me. Idky but this just makes me very happy. I love this game.
My eyes teared up. I felt like a child in a candy store ! I love this game. And I love seeing it get more immersive and polished. So curious and excited to learn about Hinterland's other "projects" !
All the new items are great, I like the scurvy, for me it will be a very cool mechanic, but one thing I miss in the game is that there should be some more knives, it would be nice to see skinning knife or knives inspired by companies like buck or morakniv, it would give a nice variety in this essential tool in real survival.
Long Dark just keeps getting bigger, and better, and more awe-inspiring! Fantastic the journey Hinterland is on with Long Dark...and am so happy to be part of it!
This is so awesome :0 I don't get to play the long dark as much as I'd like, but following along the updates and seeing the new improvements and features gets me so excited each time. You guys are so good at being in tune with what we, the players, want and really deliver! Hope to try the new update out this winter :D

This game is made with such love and dedication you can actually feel de devs huging you. Been playing video games since the early 90s and I want to thank you guys at Hinterland for one of my life's most memorable gaming experiences.

J'ai 3 500 heures de jeu sur The Long Dark, en survie intrus principalement, et je ne me lasse pas de Great Bear Island, de ses magnifiques ambiances contemplatives, de ses intenses moments de survie. J'aime beaucoup l'Aérodrome abandonné et je découvre avec bonheur tous les secrets de la Zone de contamination et ses nouveautés, comme les mines... à couper le souffle ! ;)) En comparaison, la mine de Blackrock devient un jeu d'enfant :)) Pour moi, The Long Dark est LE jeu, celui dont je rêvais et celui qui me fait si bien rêver. Cuando yo vi las promos del juego me imaginé algo completamente distinto. Las ves muy coloridas y muy bonitas, pero en realidad es un juego con situaciones muy crudas y aveces hasta crueles, pero creo que eso lo hace tan genial 😃 Yo perdí un de 150 días por ir a “pasear” a la ciénaga desolada sin ninguna necesidad. Decisiones de las que luego te arrepientes 😅

Im a TLD veteran, i bought it on the 26.09.2014 and its the best survival game out there! I really have to thank you for the time capsule, since its great that you keep updating the game but i prefer the versions before the story mode update.

Great work! Your update gives me the vibe that we might one day drag corpses, or perhaps... a friend, to safety. Looking forward to what you plan on bringing in the future because your step-up in terms of content, immersion, AND story-telling for a Survival Sandbox mode attached to an already good main story makes me think that if you did a sequel. Well... it would be stupidly good.

I had totally forgotten about my playthrough of this gem! I only play in the winter for the immersion. This will be a nice pickup to eventually play. I'm currently at the end of episode 3 i believe. this game just gets better and better. I have been playing since I was a kid and is by far my favourite survival game and I'm so happy to see updates like this that make it feel so immersive. i appreciate and love everything you guys do 💕
For scruvy, fruit is at a premium in the Canadian wilderness, people used to collect berries in the fall and process them into jam and preserves for the winter, maybe you could add blue berries, Canadian black berries, and crow berries to the harvestable foods. Another thing to consider is Tang, A powdered drink mix popular in Alaska and the Yukon for supplemental Vitamin C.
I'm curious why it was so hard to implement visual gloves for so many years. I am actually eager to know what caused it because I always wonder "there is no way the devs didn't add gloves on purpose that takes some immersion in the most immersive winter survival game ever".
No idea why it took so long, there's a mod for it for quite some time! But anyway, i'm more excited about the new region and about the safehouse customization that will come in the next update!
@@madeiraislander Ikr. There is a mod and then they suddenly adding it to the base game. But they did completed much harder work before than just animated gloves. It doesn't make any sence. My only guess that this modder found some easy cheezy solution and the devs contacted him.
there was literally a Modder that added it nearly a year before they did. I think HL ban mods because the modders show them up for how slow they are as developers

Got this game for the Steam Deck a few weeks ago and been loving the experience! It's cool seeing all these updates over the past few years. I'm making my way to Transfer Pass on my current playthrough so I hope to check out the new regions soon!

Just going to say the travois is a god-send. My only annoyance with long dark was the carry weight and constant back/forth when scavenging an area, to then just be slightly under the sprint limit for the very slooooow walk back to your base. (but that's where the fun comes in) .
You should add a zippo lighter to the next update it would mean more fuel management and having to use accelerant to either start a fire or have a light source when you don’t have matches or a storm lantern, it would be a great addition to add a zippo and it would be a cool addition to the first person aspect and see the animations of the flip lighter.

Its been a while since I played and recently picked it back up just to see a new area and new stuff. The moment I saw the thermoses/insulated flasks I was soooo happy, amongst the other stuff. Welp, back down the rabbit hole I go!
I was just thinking the exact sane thing! I'm really excited for the custom harvesting animations, but specifically carcass harvesting? I might prefer to keep that the way it was.
Considering the rather draconian censorship laws in Germany when it comes to blood and gore, there’s almost certainly going to have to be a way to disable a lot of the bloodier animations. Even if it’s moding the game to use the German version.

It would be cool if you added locations such as a Hospital or a school to the game, these would be massive multi-story buildings with rich loot, it would look especially atmospheric in non-survival mode
This region is absolutely insane. The sheer scale of it dwarfs anything ever done before. I spent several hours in the mines alone. It looks like you listened to your players and put out your best addition yet, well done Hinterland. You earned back my trust.
Still haven’t released episode 5 though..😭😭 such a pitiful game studio, takes you people years to make a single episode on such a simple game with simple quests and levels it truly is pitiful and it is no wonder why barley anyone plays this game

I continue to love that you make the team a priority with the entire studio shutting down for the holidays. I'm sure it can be difficult to plan around with updates & bugs needing attention, but I hope everyone has a fantastic break and excited to see what you all will be bringing us in 2024!
