Jon in order to get around on the solar system map more effectively you should always be thrusting either forward along your trajectory or backwards opposite your trajectory. If you want to leave a planet's gravity well, thrust along your path, parallel to the planet's surface, and if you want to be caught in a planet's gravity, then thrust opposite to your path, parallel to the planet's surface. Any sideways thrust is only useful if you want to shape your orbit in a particular way, but in this game you have autopilot circularize your orbit for you so you don't need to do that ever.

This looks amazing. Also, this looks like the type of game that Jon is at a severe disadvantage. Jon - you have to be thrusting to turn your lander efficiently. Make small movements as much as possible, avoid big movements. Also stop thrusting so much in space. Use your orbits to slingshot around and save fuel.

This just makes me want to see Jon do KSP. He will have to learn about Rocket Ballast.

Very very obvious you've never played kerbal space program. To circularize your orbit wait 'till periapsis then boost against your velocity vector.

well Jon.. remember when the tutorial said if you want to gclose in on a planet before activating autopilot, reverse your ship and thrust? don't use thrust when the front of the ship is towards a planet, same as in KSP

Oh god, as a Kerbal Space Program player and just as someone who understands orbital manoeuvrers, Jon's constant thrusting at right angles infuriates me. Thrust past the horizon of the planet if you're going to crash into it, not directly away from it, you're wasting so much Delta V/Fuel.

This game is more like Out there: Omega than FTL tbh. Would be cool if he played that! Seems a bit more simple tho not easy anyways

On one hand, this has lots I like. On the other, it has the flippin lander sub-game that kicked my ass forever and that lander sub-game is the only way to make progress.

I like it that you can see the general relativity mesh under the planetary bodies, where space-time is warped by the amount of gravity. Also, Jon, in order to be a bit more kind to your fuel, you could burn a lot more efficiently. Refer to Kerbal Space Program letsplays for more on that.

So what the hell happened at the end? He tried to jump, nothing was in his way that could be seen, it said something about meteors then died, apparently to meteors even though there weren't any on the map, only a split second warning and then death. Was this some kind of glitch?

Jon not understanding how to make orbits or landings work is killing me for this video. Far too many times you WASTED PRECIOUS FUEL by burning straight at your target and then wondered why you nearly exploded. Or when you tried to correct an orbit by flying away from your target planet instead of slowing down or speeding up as needed. Also if you like this then a simpler version would be Out There (Omega Symbol) Version store.steampowered.com/app/334420/Out_There__Edition/ Mixed reviews but has some very interesting stories that you could make out of it. No combat (that I have found) but lots of attempting to get home, deciphering alien languages, changing ships, etc.
