Almost everyone doubted him because of how insane his plays were and people barely even knew about him. He got banned because of multiaccounting and boosting, but no hard evidence of cheating. After 3 years of getting banned, he got the redemption (hell, revenge fits better) he needed the most. Now people who once doubted him went full 180°.
2019's largest plot twist imo. Literally no one at that time expected anyone to get #1 other than Vaxei or Idke. Also, the time he got unbanned was also 3 days after the Area 51 raid meme happened. I think Peppy just released a -beast- feline.

Especially when you see that several times, WhiteCat would tryhard for several hours some of the 1k pp scores that mrekk set, right after they were set. mrekk took the number 1 spot fair and square, just like WhiteCat did back in 2019 ^^ I saw nobody say “yeah but Vaxei was so bored and let WhiteCat take no1” back in 2019, even though Vaxei hardly played the game at that time. So I don’t see why mrekk’s work would have less value (especially since WhiteCat still pretty much plays everyday).
@@jijmotorp3079 I gotta say, I’m french, and I’m really proud of the french players we have, but I’m certainly not proud of Sotarks. I mean, there are some Sotarks maps I enjoy playing but overall I think he’s one of the, if not the most overrated mapper in the game. When I see Sotarks being constantly praised, while mappers like Hollow Wings get called cancer, it hurts.
i would really like to see a ranking of the total time #1 ranking. i know that shige, hvick225 and whitecat are on 1-3 but it would be interesting to compare how all the former #1 would stack against each other

Problem is, that all of this compilations has some crucial gaps where we don't have an info who was #1, eg. between September 2010 and April 2011. Was it possible that Cookie get #1 there? It is, he did it oficially in May 2011.
I think I understand the motivation behind why you didn’t, but I feel like it was some much needed context that was left out. Factually speaking, whitecat did get #1 that fast after his unban, but the current #1 at the time (Vaxei) wasn’t active and didn’t contest him. As for mrekk, similar situation. Although whitecat doesn’t play too much as of late, he is active, but he kinda “let him” take #1 This isn’t to devalue the impressive of these incredible feats, but rather look at the situation from a more objective standpoint.
It is kinda the norm though. In fact its literally almost always when a #1 player stop farming that he gets dethroned (in recent years,cookiezi, mathi and freddie all stopped farming for a little and got surpassed) of course the gap of skill with other top players is smaller with mathi and freddie but it works like that. Hell the last time the pp ranking was interesting imo was fall 2016 when cookiezi rafis and angelsim were all tryharding for #1.
@@jijmotorp3079 I agree with your point but where I take fault with it is that this video is going to be seen by a lot of people that aren’t in the demographic similar to yours (one that knows the games history well) So people that aren’t as familiar as you will be under a false impression.
I know you didn’t really argue that but I’m saying the fault I take with your statement, is that it isn’t including in the perspective of someone who doesn’t have intensive knowledge on the games ranking history to the extent you do. Nonetheless it really isn’t that serious, and I do agree with what you said, I just think there’s something to it that could’ve been added (would’ve been nice) but probably isn’t that necessary as you pointed out
Watching all these videos about osu! ranking and stuff makes me feel like I'm that one player who just plays osu! for fun and because theres lots of amazing beatmaps with amazing songs and doesn't give any care about the ranking and numbers and stuff

I think mrekk will be able to keep number 1 for a long ass time because whitecat isnt interested in farming, aetrna sets the highest scores but not at the rate mrekk can set a 1k and ryuk can submit plays at the rate of mrekk but not at the same pp count. If anyone is to take number 1 from mrekk it would probably be ryuk but I dont see it happening anytime soon
that last little send off about possibly being in the midst of a new longest reign couldn't be more true LMAO. Mrekk has comoletely swept the competition, even despite saying he won't grind for a whole year, I think he's easily on pace to beat WC'S record by a decent amount
and what about GrilledCheeese ? He has 50 Billions more than the second guy on mania ranked score, and he has over 83 000 differents maps played ! that's insane, Xasuma has 81 000 and MomoHD 61 000. Xasuma is trying to be in the top 50 of every mods in ranked score, this is why he has 81 000 differents maps played, but grilled is playing only on mania (and 7000 play on standard)
I love looking at std players discussing about why mrekk can't be taken down or that aetrna or someone will take him down and that whitecat can just come back and blablabla meanwhile the only person that have beaten jakads in mania is wonder... Oh wait he only beat him in our hearts because he's a legend, he didn't actually get to real top 1 PP wise :|
I don't think he could've kept it for a couple of years because of how fast mrekk improves, but he probably could've been #1 for a few more months at the minimum
Not too sure about that, the consistency Mrekk had been nailing out 1ks in the time leading up to him overtaking whitecat was unheard of, especially after Hotfix which removed a ton of 1ks Mrekk would have definitely caught up with whitecat in the coming months
ngl it is possible since wc after all the only person to consistently do ar11 plays and get 1-1.1k pp plays at that time when he's unrestricted it's insane, but knowing mrekk insane improvement could make whitecat held it shorter imo because mrekk is has better skillsets than whitecat
I feel like mrekk will be no1 for a long while after this seeing as whitecat has no intention in farming and is focusing on general improvement like vaxei for a year now and mrekk essentially dt everything for max pp push. Not to call mrekk a dt one trick but hes gonna keep his rank for a while solely of the fact that he will farm but whitecat wont
@@SprintyX should be good if you're not vastly better and not in the top 3k players. My account is old and my cousin also played on it but its not like a 5 digits will boost me significantly.
