Built in 1940 as a convoy escort ship, HMCS Sackville is the last of a fleet of 123 Canadian corvettes. In 1985, the ship was restored to its original condition and docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and thus made Canada’s official naval memorial.

My uncle was RCN in the battle of the Atlantic aboard HMCS Dundalk. Very proud of him. I have the ship’s “Up Spirits” rum keg.

Perfection in a picture ..., Have known a few biting beavers in my time , but hey that's another story . Those matlots were heroes every single one , not only the enemy they had to fight , but the weather ..

Really nice ship and well put together museum! I think Sackville is kinda special as one of the few surviving Commonwealth warships from WW2 which was not heavily modified with ugly Cold war modifications, and probably the only surviving warship in the wold to posses the famous 2pndr pom pom, although not in the crazy 8 gun mount ha.

It's very nice the officers had a place to go to build trust in each other but why was there no place for the common sailors to go. I have sailed with the navy and their officers attitude is still the same, amongst some, they (the enlisted) need to be led by their betters. I know this attitude was probably not a wartime mentality but even the RN pers today I have met say the RCN is more pusser the any they have met. 100 yrs of tradition unaffected by progress.
