The LONGEST BIKE RIDE of MY LIFE! Over 300 km in 1 Day!

Third time's a charm, right? My third year of trying to accomplish this massive distance (in my head): 300 km on a cycle in one day. I have done long bike rides in the past, but never surpassed a 300 km brevet. I wanted to check this off, finally. And I took you along, to show how a day like this can look like, how I sort of prepared and planned the bike ride. With all its ups and downs (my worst bonking experience so far). A mere look on Strava data, doesn't tell you anything about the ride. So here you go. Enjoy the video, and maybe this encourages you to check something off from your bike or life list that is pending for some time.

eating is just as important as drinking! I've learned it even the hard way. So... you got a wahoo. You can program your own messages. So did I. Every 30min I get shown message, that says "eat something mister". Or another message tells me every 15min "drink two sips" So I'll never ever forget to drink and eat again. unless I just forgot my computer...😅 Btw: you can be so proud of you! Amazing ride 🙏

One of the most important lesson I learned from my first 10km ride to now 150s that frequent intake of food and enough intake is gonna play a major role on how you will feel about the the ride. So the last advice was not at all lame. A great video again. Loved it as always

Hey there, nice video! Congrats on your first 300! I have watched your video just before doing my first ever 300km/day this last Friday so it came as an encouragement that I can do that too! I can not imagine the frustration you must have gotten doing 290km twice and not finishing it, but if the body gave up there is probably no other way than calling it off and being safe rather than pushing through pain for too long. How did the distance feel after bike fit? Did you have lower back/back pain or butt pain whatsoever? I started cycling outside (apart from riding on my turbo trainer at home for the past year) at the end of the March riding my 20year old MTB and really liked it. Recently upgraded my bike to a steel gravel bike to better fit my cycling needs of riding longer distances and that is a joy to ride. I must say that the number one biggest issue (apart from butt pain and slight lower back pain) for me during the day was definitely getting enough food in my body, normally I do eat every 30min-1hour but not nearly as much as I should have (50-60g carbs/hour) but I did not want to bonk so I tried keeping my carb intake high throughout the ride. That really felt like a workout in it of its own, but a lot of harribos, orange juices, skittles, sandwiches and two bigger meals throughout the day got me to the finish line. I ate roughly 6000 kcal in the day. End result was 301km 2820 elevation gain and 12:45 hours ride time (23.6 km/h) 16:30h total time Good luck on your next travels!

Had the time to do a 200km rideFAR ride (with a little bit more off-road sections) earlier this year and can only underline the importance of nutrition. Two of my planned refill places were actually closed in the middle of nowhere. I am always trying to keep my "Notfallbrötchen" until the very end 😂 Again, congrats! Greetings from Saxony-Anhalt.

Thanks for your inspiration. I saw (part of) your video and decided to do also a 300km tour on Saturday. I started at 4:00 am, so I wouldn't get afterwards in the dark. Food intake was really hard towards the end and the last 90 km or so were very hard for me because it got just a little bit hilly again in the Elsass on my way back to Germany and that was definitely a little bit too much at that moment. Still finished it. Thanks :)

Excellent video. I recently bought a new MTB and had a real ride after many years of not doing it. You actually motivated me to keep pushing and I'm very proud that I did a 80 km ride myself. I know it may not sound as much, but MTB is not built for that and it was a real accomplishment for me. I felt dead afterwards, but so happy that I made and it gave me a lot of confidence going forward... I actually thought about your videos having those fears and struggle, just like everybody has and I felt like I'm not alone in this and that felt good. Thank you very much and looking forward to your next adventures posted here on YT. By the way, could you share your playlist? I'd love to hear some of that. All the best.

I am (will be) a SEASONAL bike tourist here in the USA; I am a beginner so I will start locally and then hopefully after riding and traveling on my bike (it is currently the HOT SEASON here in Nevada :( for some time, I will graduate into doing longer distant bike touring; Five state south around Nevada and then later on a Five State North bound around Nevada. I am an older person in age, so I am kind of considering e-bike touring as well. Happy Riding :) I believe there are neck wraps that have gel or something inside of them and you place them in the freezer for a while, take them out and use them when it is needed; It is cheap air conditioning, and more than likely handy for keeping you cooler when bike riding too..I am a whiz when it comes to retail products for cycling, camping gear, etc for the best price too. I was taught this as a cyclist; : Drink before your thirsty and often, and eat before you're hungry...

@@Rerouting_ Well i just have a decent mountain bike, not a sport bike. I only have my clothes + laptop with me. I am practically going to Serbia to visit my relatives and stay there for 2 months. But i wanna go there with a bike this time, i always go with a car or by plane. Here's my plan: Go from Finland to Tallinn with a ship. From Tallinn i will drive all the way to budapest ( around 1500 KM ) and then pay a train / bus to Belgrade. I don't plan on staying in motels or anywhere, just sleep in a sleeping bag in a park / forest / gas station etc. I have money for food / water but that's about it. I will bring some travel food and water with me, some painkillers just in case, bandages, pump for the wheels, but that's about it. Not gonna lie, i just wanna go on an adventure and see if i can do this. If my bike suddenly breaks or something, i will just pay for a flight or something, since i'm not gonna bring any spare tires or anything. I am A+ student in physical education, i am very fit and i'm 26 years old, so my fitness level is pretty okay ( i just got A from physical education since i'm a student here in Finland where i live ). I don't know hows this gonna be but i just wanna ride and see where it leads me. I will probably use just an europe map for navigation. I have 2 phones with me just in case. I plan to ride 12-15 hours at first with decent speed. I will take breaks every now and then, do some stretching and stuff like that. I will bring some protein / recovery drinks with me as well. I am not worried about the time or the weather or the bugs or anything like that, but i am worried if someone robs me or something HAHAHAH i mean idk i will go through Europe alone, i doubt that will happen since so many people do it :D but yeah. It's an adventure. I am 100% my legs will be super sore after i wake up the next day xD.. i hope it wont be that sore i can't ride for a minute. I hope my butt wont hurt either for riding for so long. I plan to buy bread, canned beans, chocolate bars etc. Especially canned beans since they are high protein and you can eat them just like that. I will bring more snacks of course, something with salt and protein, probably some cashew, nuts etc. I will also probably bring some ducktape and fix a flat tire if that happens xD..

Du darfst doch niemandem von der Uckermark erzählen. Nachher kommen da noch die ganzen Leute hin :O Reicht schon, dass das Oderbruch am Wochenende von Berlinern überlaufen wird :D
