CaptainMeme and Ezio continue their commentary of the 2012 webDiplomacy World Cup Final (Public Press), the longest game of Diplomacy ever played. In this video, they cover the events between Spring, 1971 and Winter, 1980.
Diplomacy is a negotiation-based board game set during World War One. 7 players each control one great power (England, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, and Turkey) and fight for control of Europe, using their diplomatic skill to make covert deals with one another and to backstab their friends.

That's a fantastic reason why the Americans aren't in this game at this point. No explanation of where they were in the 20's till the 50's...

I'd be remiss not to give a shoutout to The Hanged Man at this point. My teammate, and fearless leader of Team California, he really stepped up by joining this game in this position! And I'm not only saying that because I was next in line and almost got pulled into 30 years of this [memorable] madness.

Mujus was actually replaced by his teammate, The Hanged Man, in Spring 1974, not in Fall 1974. But very close, and glad that you had a graphic ready!

Watching these games makes playing Austria look so stressful, your home provinces always seem to be taken

If anything though, this game is a tale of how losing your home centers isn't the end of the world! This Austria is an absolute icon.

Were the nature of this game different the NMR's might be a bit more egregious - but at this point I don't think you could really hold it against any of them hehe I was watching a different video and something came up that made me think of this game as well (veering into 40K territory here): "In the grim darkness of the far future - there is only war..." Also - I think this series is a good refute to people who say that YT videos have to be short to be good. the fact that I've watched multiple 3hr + videos in their entirety for this series and remained entertained/interested shows that its the content and not the length that makes the difference. so good marks for you guys. :-)

The Austro-Spaniard dynastic fuckery was indeed the Habsburgs (or d'Alabama). The comment about EU4 was funny, considering I always play it while listening to these. Currently playing as the Kingdom of León in the Voltaire's Nightmare mod, so I guess double coincidence.

Nice! I have 400 hours in the game but I'm still terrible, if I start anywhere that isn't Castille/France/Austria I usually get demolished :D

@@DiploStrats I have a few thousand hours (hard to keep track when most of them are out-of-Steam). The "tutorial is 1000 hours long" meme is kind of true. There's a lot of stuff you can only really learn by consuming a lot of guides, scouring the wiki like a madman or just beating your head against a wall repeatedly.

Just started watching, I really hope the German can rebuild his position Edit: about halfway through and I’m happy to say that he’s working well on it Edit 2: and now near the end devastated that the German has to pull back, such a tiny oversight with Warsaw leading to a solo failure

Yea... That was a pretty big mistake with my initial read. I did figure it out though. I can't say I would have made the correct decision in a F2F game though...

@@DiploStrats I more meant to saying that ever sounds like diplo blasphemy. I know nothing having only ever played 1 game like 15 years ago with a dodgy set of rules we found online. But I am very much enjoying this series.
