F03 was basically just me panic typing something down as teddy suddenly disconnects at the end of the turn without writing something down, as for the following year teddy was somewhat back but reluctant to actually attack dyno(russia), rue(austria) or vale(italy), so i'm trying to convince teddy to attack anyone, even then when he invade italy vale tries to stongarm teddy into backing off, meanwhile in the video when vale leaves for a different call he was clearly bluffing against teddy and is desperate for help. When (S05) the coalition of france, italy, germany and uk forms teddy does "convince" vale to take iberia by leaving rome, but it is coordinated with the rest of the coalition. It's just that lynx(france) messes up several times not taking back build points. In S06 i don't think there was any real movement it's just all hold and support orders. Army build Bul is what happend but is blaintantly not correct, doesn't really matter as it holds next turn anyways. Maivi(uk) is practically not independet as she is just doing what lynx(france) and pedejo(germany) is telling her to do, which is why she trust lynx not to mess with london. By F07 vale(italy) has more or less left the coalition and is just attaching himself to teddy(turkey) which is why teddy(who's internet is back) does not try to attack him, he does want to keep rue alive, but is convinced not to by vale. And teddy was trying not to attack dyno(russia), the times he has was my doing. During S08 i think that's when the remaning coalition tries to get the stalement life in effect, and by this point everyone is tired so yeah the 6 army france is us not noticing he only has 5 points, and maivi(uk) wants to end the game and is planing to betray the coalition. She was annoyed with the other two who had backstabed her earlier, and again everyone was tired and wanted the game to end Pretty funny amount of missplays that we don't really see until you blatantly point them out, i think seeing criticism of our games are kinda funny. And we kinda always forget armenia exist. Oh well
Great video!! I recently started learning about the Versailles diplomacy variant. It would be really cool to watch a commentary of a Versailles game if you and Ezio feel up to it
Now I would love to make comments on this just as the previous game, But god damn I have no memories form this game. Im just following what I did and go "Oh I I did that? Why?" every turn.
This game was a flaming trainwreck of a diplomacy game. Afaik only you and Pedejo seemed to be playing somewhat straight: - Rue is new, and dies. - Vale is a stinking rat. Also Italy - Lynx is drunk - Teddy is Teddy - Maivi throws out of sheer mald I would’ve loved to witness the emotional damage Pedejo was left with trying to negotiate with a pack of absolute baboons 😂
I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship. I eagerly await the next hour-long Valefisk diplomacy video and the next multi-hour-long breakdown. Truly, a pipeline of renown.
A few weeks ago after watching that valefisk video, your first valevisk commentary popped up. Out of boredom and curiousity, I watched it, and it has changed me. I've since watched many of your videos (50+ hours), including the longest game of all time. the whole series. only slightly regret it. In addition, I played a whole game in real life with some friends (which I didn't lose!) and am now getting into online Diplomacy. Thank you guys for giving me something to do this summer i'm like obsessed with this game now and it's all your fault.
I've been playing over the board diplo for a couple years, found the channel a couple months ago and started to get into online diplo. Didn't even know it existed until then lmao
Oh a professional look at valefisk's meme-games! That sounds like a fun way to spend an aftertnoon~ What are these videos about the longest game ever... *30 hours later* Hm... I should probably subscribe at this point huh
i have never played diplomacy, doubt i'll get the chance to, but honestly i just love the background noise of two nerds nerding out together and shitting on noobs in an understanding and intrigued fashion
As someone who came from valefisk... I'm glad I found this channel because there's something about listening to diplomacy dissection that is super relaxing I'm enjoying the longest game vids rn, but my favorite so far is the "most ridiculous" game, I really like putting that on in the background while working on stuff 😂
@@DiploStratsas you should, Vale got me into the humour of the game, your videos have deepened my understanding of the strategy, everyone's a winner when creators cross pollinate videos
It's a bit of a tough one to make, because a lot of 'cheating' can be attributed to people just making innocent mistakes on adjudication, and although you'd suspect they'd know, with the games being as intense as they are you can't really say for sure. It's possible I make a DiploShort on it at some point, but a more likely topic would be near-cheating - tactics that would probably be considered cheating in other games (like leaving a phone in a negotiation room to record conversations), but that are/were viewed as legitimate in Diplomacy games.
i came from vale and i absolutely love these analysis vids, but i have to say that as someone who's colorblind (daltonism), it's hard to tell apart the colors of russia and england, and turkey and italy, and those countries being contiguous in their theatres makes it a bit harder to follow whose units are whose, for example. dunno how you choose the colors but maybe more distinct ones would be better for accessibility ^^ definitely gonna check out the backlog of vids on the channel, diplomacy is fascinating
Hey, thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! We tried Backstabbr's colourblind mode for a previous video (I think it was an Olympus one), but the comments suggested that while it helped a few people, it was substantially worse than the standard view for others. So we ended up reverting to default on that. I'm still looking for a good solution, ideally in collaboration with the devs at Backstabbr, but with seven countries it's really tough to find a colour scheme that works for everyone. I've been wondering if some kind of texture change would work better - maybe a different pattern in the background of each colour? But that also might make things a bit less readable. It's something I need to think about a lot more!
@@DiploStrats I actually thought about what I'd suggest after writing this comment, but didn't include it there as to not sound pushy. If I needed to make a suggestion - Something that will work for everyone, both standard-vision folks and folks with daltonism (and even people who cant see color at all) is varying levels of brightness. colorblindness basically makes certain cells called "cones" not function in your eyes (or you straight up dont have them). The different types of colorblindness come from different combinations of the 3 types of cones not functioning. Thing is, there are other cells (they're called rods) which perceive brightness (they're the ones working hard when seeing in the dark), and those work just about the same for colorblind people as they do for everyone else. So, for example, regarding the map in this video, just making Turkey brighter and Italy noticeably darker than it, as well as Russia brighter and England noticeably darker than it would go a long way. Even if, for example, I see both Turkey and Italy as green, if they vary a lot in brightness, I'll be able to tell they're different shades of the "same color". So, the optimal solution is probably something along the lines of "make countries that are near each other have varying levels of brightness". So, relying on contrast in brightness to show the differences. I hope that helps a bit ^^ thanks for listening to the feedback, it's much appreciated!
Another good commentary. You keep on mentioning how hard it is for Italy to get & hold 5 centers, let alone lead a game. Is there a video by you or others that has Italy either coming to a draw holding the most SCs or soloing?
A lot of tournament games covered on this channel (and on channels like the Diplomacy Broadcast Network) have very strong Italy performances / wins - I'd recommend 'The Greatest Diplomacy Game' as a good one. The Longest Game of All Time series also has a strong Italy although it takes a long time to get there!
I thought of a variant and would wonder what it would be like. What if Spain and Portugal where one center and North Africa was a center instead? I feel like that would create interesting decisions for Italy a country i think needs more of. Wanted to know your thoughts on this
I think this makes Italy really tough to play, because it makes the best French opening Bre-MAO-NAf to pick up the SC (where usually that fleet would go to Portugal or similar). That means there isn't the natural buffer zone between France and Italy, so both likely have to commit units there early - which I like for nerfing France, but also nerfs Italy imo.
